Excellent work Francis. I have always wanted to investigate the lower positions on the british chart but I've been too lazy to check them out. I didn't know 1983 was such a good year for r'n'b and funky music in the UK.
Thank you and it opens with my favourite song on this list 'China Girl'. Such an erotic song and a wonderful cover of the Iggy Pop original. David really made it his own and looked very handsome in this period. This is one of the strongest years musically and one of the best videos. I didn't know Russell Grant the astrologer had a single out? Can see why it flopped to be honest. Many great songs on this and many favourites. I am surprised 'She Works Hard For The Money ' didn't do better than 25th? It's a rather well known song. That disco version of 'Memory' is....interesting to use the term. Good to see a bit of David Bowie on here too. Bonnie couldn't maintain the momentum couldn't she after that big hit for a while? Shame as its a good cover version. The Jane song is indeed the original of the Opus 3 one. It sounds like something from a horror film! 'The First Picture of You' an absolutely beautiful song (second fave) and it was revived recently in an episode of 'EastEnders' where a character had a nervous breakdown. Good bit of 80s soul and funk here too - I like. 'When We Were Young' is one of Bucks Fizz's best. Dramatic and Jay Aston's vocals add mystery to it. Useless bit of info, the Frida song was a cover of a song that tried for UK in Eurovision in 1980. I can see why it was last (100th). Also 'Get Down Saturday Night' was sampled as 'Make Luv' and got Oliver Cheetham a number 1 in the UK twenty years later.
Great English chart!!! I had heard the song "It's a fine day" by Jane in a Japanese commercial for Kleenex. Many said the actors had died later but it was a myth that was disproved a long time ago!!!!
Regarding Bowie's re-releases, it is curious that the order is space oddity (which had previously reached number 1), the jean genie (which had previously reached number 2) and life on mars (which had previously reached number 3) and just after life on mars Frida appears! who made a version of the song, as well as other artists like Barbra Streisand (Bowie said that version was terrible)
@@safsd6358 She was indeed a model. It was a situation like Corona (not the virus!) where a pretty woman was the face of the act. Their remake is based on the 1992 Opus Three mix so Kirsty Hawkshaw lent her voice again.
Many European DJs preferred to hire young models to replace the original singers in videos. It is interesting, however, that Irene Cara, who did not show her face in the original video for "What a Feelin", appeared in the DJ Bobo version when she was in her 40s.

I love to see the lower end chart entries that i didn't hear at the time because they probably did not get much air play. Thanks for the uploads.
Thanks For Sharing!
Excelente lista!!! 🎊🎉❤️
no.1: 5:52 no.2 6:16, no.3 6:58, always something there to remind me, thanks Francis 👌
Excelent!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Being a soul boy at the time, it's good to see the likes of The Funkmasters, Second Image, and Terri Wells represented in this batch!
Great Video 👍👍

Especialmente ❤️
Frida did a version of Life On Mars in Swedish. Ironic that her entry appeared straight after Bowie singing Life on Mars.
@ Aretha Franklin Whitney Houston: 'Here We'll Stay' is actually a duet with Phil Collins.
Really great video as usual! Will you be doing one for the month of may and april in 1983 as well seing as you skipped those?

Iron Maiden 🤘
the trooper
Is Jane, who sings "A fine day" and Miss Jane, who covered the song in 1998 the same person?
Opus Three covered it in 1992 but it was a bald woman called Kirsty who sang it. I'm not sure about the 1998 cover sorry.
That "Miss Jane" woman on the single cover from 1998 seems to be somebody else but she could have been only a model.

@@safsd6358 Jane who sang the original, is British singer Jane Lancaster who actually released an album in 2021!
