I’ve been using vr for awhile now, since 2016. Pretty used too it. That being said, every time it goes from showing your car and then plop you in the seat I smile like I haven’t seen it before. Still hard for me to believe we have vr after dreaming of good vr for years as a kid.

I was worried about it being blurry and to be honest before I set it up I was wondering if I even made a good decision, but after setting it up and wearing it correctly (it’s a huge factor as even it being a bit too low on your head can cause it to be blurry) it’s been AMAZING and I can’t really imagine playing Gran Turismo any other way now! Just the feeling of driving my dream car with such amazing level of immersion made it 100% worth it for me

Motion sickness in VR is something most people have to go through when they first use a VR headset. I certainly suffered my fair share of it in the early days but little by little your brain either adjusts and you don't get motion sickness anymore or you have to quit using VR (apart from maybe 360 VR videos).
It took me a few months to completely get rid of VR motion sickness but it does improve pretty quickly if you keep using the headset and choose less intense experiences until your brain is no longer fooled.

This is a balanced review. Awesome work!
A lot of other RUclipsrs are giving their feedback on the unit without providing context by comparing the experience to what's already out there. In that regard it's hard to argue that you can get a better experience without spending multiple thousands in VR hardware ALONE without even accounting for the thousands the PC will cost that can pump the pixels for it.
In that context, PS VR2 is a game changer for the industry.

PC 'first' simply don't apply anymore, $3k - $5k gaming rigs don't apply anymore, ownership of VR dosen't apply anymore. Who's the best doesn't apply anymore

For the money it's bloody awesome. The first thing I noticed was how you register strong elevations so much more, be it Bathurst (Mount Panorama), the cork screw on Laguna Seca or chasing down the Eau Rouge in Spa. Next thing was the depth perception helping you so much more with finding good breaking points. Spatial awareness is awesome in GT7. Sure it's not as crisp as the 2D version, but that'ssomething more noticable to a viewer than the player. Your focus is on the track, the mirrors, the car next to you or behind you. It's so damn vivid and fun. No cyber sickness with this game, got to struggle with 1st person games like Horizon or The Village though, when trying to play them as usual (fluid movement and turning). The brain expects inertia when stopping or turning on foot. In a car that's different, as my brain's everyday experience is usually a smooth ride.

IMPORTANT THING that most GT7 VR players dont know is - for anyone wondering how to adjust the in game wheel to be higher or lower, or away from you (the driver), or closer to you, simply lower your head (while you have the psvr2 headset on) and keep pressed the option button if you want the wheel to be higher, raise the head+hold the option button if you want the wheel to be lower. Lean/move your body toward the wheel and keep pressed the option button if you want the in game wheel to be further from you, move away from the wheel+hold on the option button if you want the ingame wheel to be closer to you. So, play around a few times until you get the desired position.

Take a few minutes to perfectly calibrate. Especially the tilt of the headset, so back band is snug on the back of skull and eye proximity is perfect and level for your IPD and tracking. When you find the clear visual sweet spot for yourself, text will be sharp for example. After that, you'll always find it again and it will feel routine to calibrate it dead on and stay comfortable for hours.

My headset has never been blurry at worst it looks slight pixelated when I play GT7 but it’s not something that would put me off from getting it. I have had a dedicated racing rig for about 2 years now and it wasn’t till I got the psvr2 that I felt like a kid again playing those racing games in the arcade, the immersion is incredible and it far outweighs the visuals. Some will say “you’ll eventually get tired of it” but tbh it’s the other way around I just can’t go back to playing on a tv lol I feel like I have better control and spacial awareness in vr and my sense of speed feels way better I can actually carry a lot more speed in corners and get within a pixel of the walls. It’s an experience that i can’t wait to share with my brothers since they’ve played video games since the first Nintendo released, I think it’ll blow their mind.

Really good video, very informative. I'm personally not going to be getting it as I have a very decent gaming PC (12th Gen I9, 3080) and I don't really play console games, so it's really not worth $1000 for me for the handful of exclusives. It does look like a very good option for someone who is also into console gaming though.
A word about racing setups. What BlackPanthaa says is 100% correct, you CAN spend a TON of cash on a high end setup if you want to. You don't really HAVE to though. I do think having a wheel and pedals setup completely transforms the experience, but the difference between not having one at all vs. having one is MUCH bigger than the difference between having a lower end setup vs. a higher end. If sim racing is it for you, you race competitively on iRacing, and everything else is ancillary then yea you might want to pop a couple of grand for a high end setup. Otoh if you're more of a casual racer like me that just likes to jump in and run a few laps now and then and experience what it's like to drive a high end race car on a real track, then a low end setup is all you need,
I personally use a Thrustmaster T-150, which I believe is the cheapest wheel you can get that has force feedback and I'm perfectly happy with it. Ok, not PERFECTLY happy, the pedals suck and I do plan on upgrading them, but the wheel itself is just fine for me. And I mount it on a Playseat Challenge, so the whole setup cost me around $400. That's still a bit of money, but it's a far cry from thousands and you still get a very good experience from it. Not to mention they're easy to sell on eBay, so if you decide you love sim racing and want to spring for something better, you can always sell it and upgrade.
Anyway, just my $.02 on racing setups.

I'm glad Theo briefly addressed something a lot of wheel users experience, but rarely talk about: Fatigue. Using a wheel and pedal (with or without VR) is very draining. Even if you're used to driving IRL, racing is entirely different and demands a lot more focus and faster reflexes compared to daily driving. So, if you're not used to the demands racing puts on you physically, you'll probably have to meter your sessions accordingly. Like adjusting to anything, build yourself up gradually until you can do three, four hour sessions (or more) if that's your goal.

For me racing games are perfect for a racing game for vr as this is the type of game that is simple to do in terms of you don't need to walk ect. Add a chair wheel makes it feel more real. It's definitely something we need to see more of especially on pc. Ide love Microsoft to add this to Forza games. For me vr is just not a must buy as I want to relax and game on my sofa in front of my TV and same with when little wants to play games with me. That said it definitely has its place and great to see it improving every few years.

My experience has been pretty good, my only complaint is how your view is fairly locked to the horizon. So when you go on banked turns like at Daytona your view doesn’t shift along with the banking off the car on the turn. Similar thing happens when you go down the corkscrew at Laguna Seca, view stays fairly level while the car drops down along with the drop in elevation. Honestly these are the only instances where I feel motion sick, when your view does not move as you would expect it to.

I can see in your passtrough cam why your HMD is jittering, you have a disturbig light source in your room with a special frequency (maybe some led strips) that are effecting the cams or the HMD to determine correctly its postion by calc between to pictures. Keep sure you passtroughview is not flickering. Than your tracking will be better.

@blackpanthaa for the play area resetting, edit the area as big as you can make it. Then just use the function button to see through when you walk to/from your seat, cause it wont block objects in room. You generally know your room layout. & always remember to hold settings to reset camera. If your too close to the wheel, lean forward a bit, hold options to reset camera, and move back again. Hopefully you see this so i didnt type for nothing.

I'm thinking that the complaints are from people with either fault headsets, improperly calibrated eye tracking and/or IPD adjustment, and improper positioning of the headset on their heads since I'm seeing that the PSVR2 lenses have a small sweet spot.
The best way to describe VR to people is that it is like a world replacer or that it is like lucid dreaming.

The PSVR2 has "Foveated Rendering" which basically mimics your peripherals. This helps developers produce better looking VR games as the focal point of your vision renders at a higher quality compared to the edges.

I've watch a few PSVR2 reviews now, and own these myself, and if you want to know how good they are in GT7, just watch the reviewers like BlackPanthaa laughing and giggling when they drive! Or even when they look over a car in the garage. It really is that damn good!
I got bad motion sickness though so have limited my play. My brain is screaming at me it should be feeling movement when I'm feeding it a visual of cornering and elevation change. I'd love to see more haptic feedback in the headset replicating the controller, and maybe that will help with motion sickness, or perhaps going to haptic feedback devices like a Buttkicker may help (?). But if you get sick, stop, limit play, use motion sickness tablets to calm yourself down, and chew gum when playing and even ginger products (which is what I'm also doing) and there are heaps of videos on VR motion sickness to help you out.

I got the psvr2 and didn't previously have gt7. I had wanted to get it but knew I'd want a wheel and my wife would kill me.
After getting the psvr2 I decided to bite on gt7 and I gotta say it plays surprisingly well with the dualsense in gyro mode.
I feel like it's undoubtedly more accurate than using the stick (so this goes for vr or not) but if you're in my boat don't hesitate to use the DS as your wheel. It's great fun!
I will admit though my arms start to get fatigued on longer sessions since you can't rest your arm weight on the wheel when driving.

Apart from the 3d which can't be conveyed on video, I couldn't play GT on flat screen as I'm just a casual driver and was constantly annoyed that when I have camera inside of the car I couldn't look into a turn, so not knowing the tracks I had no clue where I was going so often. Shift 2 did that automatically I believe, so it's solvable, but in vr this is just not an issue. You just look. Driving games and shooters on flat screen are broken to me because of VR now.
