After watching Gabe Millers videos I came over here and watched all the calc videos. Got my Circuit Rhythm finally and its everything I hoped it would be and more. Cant wait to see some more firmware updates.
No, the potential that exists in being able to preload steps without samples and record into them is immense! Especially now that they've updated the firmware and allowed for predetermined sample lengths
Love the Rhythm and use it regularly. It's easy to get ideas going and flesh them out. Some nice happy accidents can happen with all the hands on controls. One thing I wish would be updated is the ability to remove a pack from the Rhythm that is stored on the sd card. Being able to do it from the device itself would be great, but at LEAST the ability to remove it from Components is needed. It's a bit of a pain to have to pull the sd card, load it up on a computer, and then figure out which subdirectory to delete to remove the pack.
@@ilikeitdark13I can remove packs in components without issue on mine... File management without a screen could end up wiry frustrating loss of data so I can see why they don't let you do it on device
@@vznquest I think the biggest feature of the SP-404 SX which is unmatched to this day is the ease with which an artist can load and play entire songs or backing tracks, in stereo, streamed from the SD card, on individual pads. The 404 sequencer was always pretty clunky (limited voices, rudimentary controls, no chromatic notes) but the 404 has been used by loads of bands and artists for DJ sets and entire backing tracks. The Circuit Rhythm looks like a lot of fun but its focus on the sequencer means there isn't much overlap between it and the 404.
@@lstlvls2521 that the SP 404 (sx or a) can do, check out the channel Le Mellotron (Kryo is a good example) for example of that, but Novation is known for blessing it’s product line with updates, so this feature could be in the cards.
Just bought Novation circuit tracks, all I can say its great machine to make tracks and live jamming. Looking forward to buy rhythm as well, I think they will be great team to make live jamming...
I know it's not even out yet but I have firmware requests: increased note resolution (please at least increase it from 6ppq to 8 or 16). Include bitrate/sample quality as one of the automatable sample settings and not just a performance effect. Give the pan setting its own screen (divide stereo spectrum into 8 left/8 right so pan can be sequenced on a step-by-step basis just like velocity). Include mixer state and grid FX in Scenes. Please?
I think you can record the pan in the mixer section. The way you can motionrecord everything is one of the greatest things about the xircuits. You can also go in the individual steps to adjust your recording somehow.
Thanks for your interest, Luis. The maximum length of a Sample, whether recorded via the audio input, resampled or imported using Components, is 33 seconds. Each Pack can store a maximum of 222 seconds or 3 min 40 sec worth of samples, accessed from 128 Sample slots.
In slice mode, can you change how the slices play (e.g. playthrough, gated or looped)? Also, can you parameter-lock the pitch of specific slices in the step editor? I know you could workaround the latter by copying each slice as a unique sample but that would eat up 4/8/16 sample slots instead of just the one. If these things are not presently possible, please consider them for firmware updates.
Hey yeh in slice mode you can change the playback to one shot/gated/loop. You can also automate pitch on a per step basis (so you automate the sequencer step rather than the slice) with duplicate you can then easily copy this automation around to different steps as well Also its worth noting that the playback options and number os slices are all dynamic and can be changed during playback so can be really performable!
Great question. Chris tells me that this was essentially discovered through experimentation. Dropping the sample down an interval of a 4th takes it from 120BPM down to 90BPM. John // Novation UK 🇬🇧
Yes. There are several ways of achieving that. If you're working with multiple different samples on the same track and are finding that the Tune macro affects them all, you can use Note View to assign a different pitch to each sample using the chromatic keyboard. Alternatively, you could record per-step Tune macro automation to repitch samples individually. To do that, enable Record and move into Velocity View where you trigger the pad whilst making changes to the Tune macro for each step in the sequence, then switch Record off. Or you could repitch and resample the sample several times to have different pitched versions saved amongst your samples. John // Novation UK 🇬🇧

So the Circuit Rhythm can actually record mic into itself directly with XLR to Quarter inch adaptor? Seems like a powerful device. You are the first to mention that it can record mic without preamp.
Not quite. In this video, microphones are not directly connected to Circuit Rhythm. They're connected via XLR to a mixer - off-screen - and the audio output from the mixer is then connected to the Circuit Rhythm audio inputs. Circuit Rhythms audio inputs are designed to receive line-level signals and aren't specifically designed to receive microphone level sources but you should find that dynamic microphones work well if connected directly.
Hi. I want to get one but I'm concerned that the battery can leak onto the board if dead. Can this happen? Also, will it work via USB if the battery is unplogged?
Has Novation considered partnering with a sample library company or a breakbeat covers band to showcase the Rhythm? Having scoured youtube for any/all mention of the Rhythm, it's apparent that people are hamstrung in their inability to use samples to showcase a sampler. When Korg launched their Volca Sample, they got the group OK Go to make a bunch of samples for it. Novation should really reach out to El Michels Affair or Bad Bad Not Good or somebody like them to create a pack of loops. Just a thought.
Will the drum section respond to MIDI input from an external drum plugin's MIDI output? Previous versions' drum section will only respond to 4 MIDI notes rendering it's drum section useless in a DAW. I often use Circuit as an external MIDI instrument but it only works with synths 1 & 2, be really nice if I could include the drum section as well. I have thousands if MIDI drum files, would love to use them with Circuit.
Thanks for your interest. Unlike Circuit and Circuit Tracks, Circuit Rhythm doesn't really have a dedicated "Drum section". Circuit Rhythm is a standalone hardware sampler that has 8 Sample Tracks that can be used for a variety of musical purposes. That said, each of the 8 tracks can be addressed individually via MIDI but as they are monophonic, one Sample can be played on each track for every step/micro-step in the sequence.
@@NovationTV I am used to loading circuit packs into circuit using components, I assume these packs will not work with Rhythm. So I assume that in Logic Pro I would set up Circuit Rhythm with 8 MIDI Logic tracks, a different channel for each track and create samples for each track with whatever sound source I choose such as snippets of audio loops. Logic has a built in sample and sequencer program that can create an 8x8 grid, could these horizontal tracks be used to create the sample input for Rhythm? I assume I would have to use audio tracks instead of MIDI tracks. Otherwise I could just create 8 audio tracks. A little confused as to how I can use Logic with Rhythm as an external MIDI instrument, doesn't sound feasible, is it feasible?
Thanks for your feedback on this! You can currently control many of Circuit Rhythms parameters, such as the mixer, using an external controller. As Launch Control XL is designed to control Ableton Live on Mac/Windows PC, you will need an additional USB MIDI Host device in order to convert and connect it to Circuit Rhythm via 5 pin DIN. Afraid there are no current plans to deliver a Scale Mode to Circuit Rhythm as it's a hardware sampler into which you can record and import samples of any pitch but we appreciate your interest in a feature like that.
All the circuits need is a better working, not always crashing components and adjustable reverb, delay effects and compressor(via components). Also there should be the possibility to latch the parameters of the synths, when you switch to the mixer page. Without this you cant really make fast buildups+eg. Bring the kick back in. (Doesnt also work if you hold the synth button and then switch back fast to the mixer.)
