"I find your lack of faith... disturbing," as Vader force-chokes him from across the room, is one of the most badass villain moments in the movies. Great line.
Also, great job by Richard LeParmentier (Admiral Motti) selling it. The 'throat spasm' was 100% the actor, not special effects. The scene would have been effective enough without it, but really just adds a nice extra touch.
@@spartan_warrior5927Alec Guinness, Peter Cushing and James Earl Jones were subpar?? Sheesh lol. They are legends and their acting was superior in this movie.
i could entirely be imagining this, but I have the idea that the necklaces or whatever you want to call them that the medals were mounted on, were simply not long enough to go over chewies head.
I love the shot of the burned sand igloo. Everybody has the same reaction. “Aw snap they burned the igloo………………………..oh fuck are those charred skeletons?!?!” -cut-
The thing about Stormtroopers missing: remember that Tarkin WANTED them to escape (they put a homing beacon on the Falcon), but he wanted them to believe they escaped, and weren't just let go (as Leia suspected). In later films, it became part of the Main Characters' Plot Armor that all Stormtroopers cannot shoot well. So, an intentional deception ultimately became canon incompetence.
I’m so happy you are doing this right now! I’m back in the hospital. Cancer came back and attacked my spinal cord. Paralyzed on Saturday night. Having radiation and kicking butt. You are helping me get through it, with your awesome reactions!!!❤️❤️❤️
“The music been on point though” John Williams puts out one of the greatest most iconic soundtracks of all time you’ll be saying that again I promise you
On Williams specifically and movie music in general, he really is going to learn a Lot. He's already been through Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, and LOTR, which are on Tier 1 Level in terms of soundtracks. He's going to love SW
Whoever said you're gonna lose subscribers doesn't seem to understand entertainment. Everything you react to is an absolute blast to watch. You being upfront and honest about what you know about movies is also appreciated. Keep up the phenomenal work J & Blank. I'll watch everything you put out.
One of the coolest things about Vader is he was played by two characters. David Prowse was his body and James Earl Jones was his voice . And that early scene where he pucks the guy up with one arm was legit. Prowse was a massive powerlifter and weight lifter
“Why did he add CGI to the old movies?” So, if you ask George Lucas, or most Star Wars fans, it’s because he always _wanted_ to include this stuff, but the technology just wasn’t there back in the day. But the truth is much more petty. His ex-wife was the editor on all three of the original films (they divorced shortly after _Return of the Jedi_ came out). By recutting all three movies with a lot of new stuff (and doing it himself), and then burying the original versions, he was able to cut her off from all future royalties.
All of that could be true as part of the reasons he did it. Another is that it was a test of using CGI to see if he could make the prequels. By releasing them in the theater and DVD he made money to help fund the expensive prequels. Cutting the Ex out is a bonus plus extra money.
My mother was a music professor and elementary school music teacher for 40+ years. She used to play her Star Wars record over and over and I remember she would explain to me (granted as a bratty kid of the 80's I didn't care) how amazing the score was and thought it was divine and revolutionary. My mom was right!🎵🎶💚
@@samwallaceart288 Thank you, she was an amazing person and I miss her. Truly she did play her Star Wars record while fixing dinner or sometimes during lesson planning. As a kid I was not allowed to touch the records or the record player...or anything electronic really!LoL The joys of being the fourth kid! 😆😆😆
I wonder if your mom was familiar with The Planets by Gustav Holst. That was the primary inspiration for Star Wars' music. John Williams himself confirmed it.
@@PenTheMighty Sadly I can't ask her for clarification, she passed away in 2013 but I do believe she was aware of the influence. Not initially but many years later I want to say in the early 2000's she and I talked about it.☺
It always surprises me how almost nothing happens in the first half of the film, and yet five-year-old me was obsessed with this film after it came out. I remember my parents taking me to see Santa that year and the line went past a model train village where the miniature drive in theater was playing Star Wars with no audio, and I was done. Didn't want to see Santa, I had Star Wars.
I think it’s because at the time, we didn’t have the amazing CGI, the comic films, the groundbreaking games and forms of entertainment we’ve become accustomed to. Back then, this film felt unlike anything else before it. There had been space films and series, but this had a different look and feel. Throw in the epic music, the western film vibe mixed with eastern philosophy combined with science fiction, and my young mind was hooked immediately.
We learn about the war between the galactic empire and a rebellion, how plans for a weapon of mass destruction have been stolen, a massive battle ship hunting down a rebel cruiser, a fight with laserguns, a princess sending out two funnny droids to call out for help to an old veteran who is also a space wizard, we get to know young luke who’s eager for adventure and wants to know who his dad is, meeting with the wizard who saves him from sandpeople, gives him a sword made out of light, shows him some space magic and after the empire fried his foster family they hire a scoundrel and his walking dog to go on a rescue mission to save a princess who’s planet has been totally destroyed but only after a „who shoots first“ confrontation with a bounty hunter and a mafia boss space slug. Yeah, nothing really happens in the first half….
The thing about the "Stormtroopers can't shoot" thing is... they start sucking when their mission is to herd the heroes back onto the Falcon, which has a tracking device on it.
You're not going to lose many subscribers by reacting to the last trilogy. If anything, you might make the last trilogy more enjoyable to those that didn't like it because your reactions are generally entertaining af.
You are not going to lose subscribers. But you will be disappointed. Disney wiped their butt with the Star Wars story. The last 3 are not Star Wars. I would love to see your reaction.
Someone losing subscribers because of some vids they watch? That's wild. And you're right: I despise the last trilogy, but I'll still have the reaction on the side and when funny stuff is said, I can pay attention.
Who are the deranged people telling someone that if they watch a series a movies, they will unsubscribe from their channel? Seriously? I don't give a shit about Star Wars movies one way or the other. I don't care who likes them or hates them. For some idiot to unsubscribe because a person is interested in watching movies that the idiot themselves watched, is incomprehensibly irrational. Someone with that type of "thinking" has serious mental issues.
For me, this movie will always be known as STAR WARS. Not A New Hope, not Episode 4. I saw it in theaters back in 77 when I was six. There was nothing like it in the whole world. Up until they started making the CGI changes, I used to watch it regularly. Every time I see it my childhood just comes back.
Episode IV hadn’t been added until George Lucas was able to get more movies made. It was re-released with that new title ahead of Episode V. His story background had been changing in the earlier drafts. That’s why I am inclined to believe Anakin being Luke’s father and being Darth Vader was not in George’s mind at this point. Luke was the son of a famous, skillful Jedi who was killed by Darth Vader.
Just left comment saying same-is as illegit as the gd cgi!!! I saw this in '77 at 6 yro. Was a huge fan of the movies, but as far as Vader being Luke's dad from beginning or not, I remember there were books (not the comics) when this came out. So should be able to look up & see if was in the books? It's been so long & I was so young, but I thought this part of story was taken from book(s) already written??? ✌🌎❤
Not sure with George not having planned for Dark Vader to be Luke's father, because of the conversation between Darth and Obi-Wan when their fighting. Based on the conversation Obi-Wan seems to only have one pupil which is Darth, and Darth nor Obi-Wan bring up killing Luke's father, which would make sense because Darth never really killed Luke's father because he is him.
I was a six-year old in ‘77 also! Saw Star Wars five times in the theater and the fifth time might have been near Christmas. The movie came out in May of 1977 and just kept on chugging! It was an amazing time. Star Wars was EVERYWHERE!
Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin) was a brilliant British actor who was most famous for acting in a lot of Hammer Horror films in the 1950s and 60s. He also played the Doctor in two Doctor Who movies made in the 1960s that were adapted from a couple of stories from the tv show when William Hartnell was playing the Doctor on tv. Alec Guinness (Obi Wan Kenobi) was another great British actor who starred in a lot of brilliant films like Bridge on the River Kwai, The Ladykillers, and many more. David Prowse who plays Darth Vader was another British actor. The problem was he had a very strong west country (somerset,UK) accent, and he didn't sound at all menacing, so they got James Earl Jones to do the voice when it was dubbed over.
When this movie first came out in 1977, I absolutely fell in love with it. I went back to watch it in the theatre 14 times (movies were a lot cheaper then). I've watched it countless times since. I'm so glad you've joined us in the Star Wars universe :)
I will never give money to the theaters or movies until the pdfiles are gone and the people there are moral, until then I hope it all burns and collapses
It’s funny to see Leia, who lost her entire planet and everyone she knew and grew up with, comfort Luke, who’s sad not because they killed his aunt and uncle, but sad because he lost a mentor whom he met a day or two before.
My father was a trained hypnotist and as a kid I used to think he could hypnotize people exactly like Obi Wan because my daddy could make people cluck like chickens in his shows.😂 Obviously I learned later in life real hypnosis isn't quite like "the Force". 😊
@@DockingFreidmanRecords Sadly, never used his hypnosis skills on me, but my much older sisters toured with him one summer and apparently were a little too easily hypnotized. In fact the oldest sister would be 'under the influence' from just sitting in the audience! I was too young to go but those are some of my favorite stories about my dad's previous work profession as a showman hypnotist. He was quite the character! I believe hypnosis is a great therapy tool! Now I know I just wrote that he never hypnotized me but he did teach me at a very young age the concept of mind over matter like making my ears move, then one at a time etc. For example he taught me how to not be ticklish. He encouraged me to see being ticklish as a light switch. When someone tickles me I invision myself turning the switch off and now my body doesn't react or feel the sensation, but when I turn the switch on, in my head, then I'm ticklish again. So maybe that counts?🤔☺ Thanks for the question, my apologies if it's a long winded answer.
I've never understood people that would tell someone else not to experience art because they themselves didn't like it. Art means something different to everybody. Star Wars is glorious art.
Some (like me) just do not think Disney Star wars is Star Wars. However, like you said, to each their own. P.S. I discourage people from watching the ST, not because I do not think people have the right to watch it, but because I know how much they destroy the OT and its characters. I want to save them from that, like I wish someone would have been able to save me from it.
@@sandman_says_runrunner4701 Nothing has been destroyed. They're still there for anyone to enjoy over and over and over again. You're gatekeeping because you have a different point of view. @@valek005 Oh... so if I am a "Star Wars fan" I have to change my "absurdly negative" point of view to fit your myopic one. Got it. So tell me again who is gate keeping?! Also tell me who gave you the power to decide who is a fan and who isn't?! You do know the difference between literal and figurative... right?! Literal: physically destroying the OT trilogy so nobody can actually watch them again. Figurative: The ST destroying the lore, canon, world building, character, and character arcs of the OT. See the difference? You say "absurdly negative" I say objective. Also being a "Star Wars fan" does not mean I blindly and gullibly accept anything with a Star Wars label on it. Just because it says Star Wars does not mean IT IS Star Wars. The fact that you think the ST doesn't destroy everything built in the OT tells me you are not actually a Star Wars fan, but rather a gullible NPC stuck in the loop of consume product, wait to consume more product. If you are an ACTUAL Star Wars fan you will reevaluate your overly naive and gullible point of view. The OT Star Wars is glorious art. Disney Star Wars is a very bad and cheap knockoff. The fact that you can't discern the difference tells me all I need to know about you. I suspect you are one of those people that sees a banana taped to a wall and goes, "That is beautiful art man!"
one thing you should know about Han, in the original cantina scene when he is talking with the alien Greedo he shoots Greedo before Greedo even has a chance to fire but in the remaster Lucas ruined the scene by making Greedo shoot first. There is a big difference in Hans character when he's the only one that shoots vs him shooting in defence
I was fortunate enough to see this when it first came out at the Drive-In in 1977. Have been a fan ever since. When you said your Cousin used to go around with the force choke hand ....I had to pause the video cuz I was dying. Everyone in my school was doing that to each other.
13:19 The model Luke plays with here is the T-16 he refers to later during the pilot briefing before the final battle. The T-16 and X-Wing are both built by the same company, and ti save money, they use as many of the same parts as possible. The control layout of Luke's Skyhopper is essentially identical to the X-Wing, which is why Luke knows how to fly one seemingly out of nowhere. People seem to think the landspeeder is the T-16, but its an X-34.
And also forgot to answer that question that JL asked: Those are X-wings but what are the others called? They are classed as Y-wings and are bombers. The Toy version has one bomb underneath that could be released.
J, your M Bison shirt is excellent and I loved your reaction to a true classic. Excellent editing, Blank, and thank you for adding Star Wars to the list of things to watch. God bless you guys with excellence!!
"Why'd he add the cgi." There was a belief in the early days that CGI was the perfect special effect. That it looked 100% perfectly real, despite clearly not looking real. So Lucas felt it would be possible to back and add all the creatures that he wanted to, but couldn't do practically in the 1970s. It didn't turn out the way he expected.
Since you mentioned the Stormtroopers accuracy, they were missing their shots later in the movie because they were supposed to let them get away so the Empire could find the Rebel base by tracking the Falcon with the tracking device Tarkin and Vader were talking about.
It was a shame how they got portrayed in later movies as not a significant and competent threat in later movies and shows. A joke taken too seriously and too far.
Hey buddy, most people are confused over that same line, "It's the ship that made the Kessle run in under 12 parsecs". They don't explain it in the movie, but a parsec is a measure of distance, not time, and without context, the line confuses people because it seems to imply that he's saying it made the "Kessle Run" in a shorter amount of time because the Millennium Falcon was a faster ship than the others in the race. However, in the lore, it's explained that the ship WAS fast, but Hans had also found a shortcut ... a shorter path to the finish line that cut down the amount of time it took to complete the "run" by quite a bit. However, it still DID take a fast ship and a very skilled pilot to pull it off, so he was not only bragging on the speed of the ship, but boasting about his own brains and flying abilities. Now, specifically, "What's a parsec" ??? One parsec is approximately equal to 3.26 light-years: Proxima Centauri, the nearest known star to earth other than the sun, is about 1.3 parsecs (4.24 ly) away.
In the seventies we would buy a ticket in the morning and stay all day (hang out in the restroom between shows) 4-5 shows parents permitting. They always did, it was the seventies… This show turned me into a sneak.
"The Force will be with you, always." Fun Fact: The first movie to make over $300 million domestic box office. It was also the first movie to cross $500 million worldwide in its initial release. Action Star Fact: Stunt doubles were not used for the scene where Luke and Leia swing to safety in the Death Star. Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher performed the stunt, shooting it in just one take. CGI Over Practical Fact: All the CGI was added in the late 90s and NOT part of the original release. I don't mind the changes, except for originally Han Solo (Harrison Ford) shot Greedo (Paul Blake) before the bounty hunter could do anything. Gun Enthusiast Fact: The weapons the stormtroopers used were essentially the Sterling L2A3 9mm SMG (sub-machine gun), a military weapon developed in the late 1940s in the U.K. and adopted by the British and Canadian Armies in the 1950s. The curved left entry side mounted magazine was removed, and that was as much as it was modified for the movie. The longer sandtrooper weapon was the MG-34 machine gun from Germany. Location Location Fact: The Tatooine scenes were filmed in Tunisia. There is a town in Tunisia's rural south named Tataouine (Berber for "eyes") and George Lucas liked the name so much, he adopted it for Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) home world. Some of the interiors and the courtyard of Luke's house were filmed in a hotel in Matmata, Tunisia. One can visit this two-star hotel and see some pictures and the painted ceiling of what was used for the Lars' dining room. When Luke goes out of the farm, he appears in a flat deserted area, while the reality, when you get out of the hotel, there are a lot of other houses, small stone hills, and a lot of prickly pear cacti (a variety very common in Tunisia). The skeleton that C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) passes belongs to a Tatooine creature called a Greater Krayt Dragon. This artificial skeleton was left in the Tunisian desert after filming and still lies there. During filming of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones (2002), the site was visited by the crew once more and the skeleton was still there.
Not ALL the CGI. The computer screen in the mission briefing for the attack on the Death Star was the first use of CGI in any film and iirc was done by engineers at MIT? ♥

I was 9, we were in the middle of our first vacation to the southwest and I didn't want to go but my dad was a huge scifi fan and he was so excited about it! It was a beautiful old school theater in Santa Fe with a balcony and everything! When the heroes get the standing ovation at the end, my little sister and I stood and applauded too, we thought it was the audience! I saw it 17 times before it left theaters.
Hey Jay, that was the point of that opening shot with the Star Destroyer. Cuz, George Lucas knew you were gonna say, "God dawg, that's a big ass ship." 😂😂😂 No, but really, that was the point of that opening shot of Star Destroyer's entrance. So, people in the audience would know that indeed, it's a "big ass ship." 😁
Someone else probably answered this but in case not, the Kessel Run is a stretch of space filled with gravitational anomalies and black holes. A parsec is a unit of distance, like 3.26 light years, and Han Solo flying it in less than 12 means that he took the shortest route where other people had to go around and therefore take longer.
Stormtrooper accuracy goes way down once the heroes reach the DS. What most people forget is that this is ON PURPOSE. Vader ordered them to miss so that he could track the Falcon to Rebel HQ.
@@IdealUser Ever read any of the military studies about how many rounds it takes on average to down ONE opponent? Hint: it's larger than you think, even for proficient markemen.
@@GregPrice-ep2dk Doesn't explain how Luke, at this time in the film series, a untrained farm boy can be a crack shot...and no he wasn't using the Force at that time. Or Han and Leia could maintain theirs under fire.
@@IdealUser First, he wasn't "untrained". he'd been shooting womp rats from his t-16 while flying through Beggar's Canyon for years. @JL I lack the words to say how happy I am your going to watch this franchise as for many of us it is one of our favorites. You got all the humor too which was nice to see. Best Wishes to you and the EOM staff
If Star Wars never came into our lives, visual effects would have been set back at least another 5 to 7 years. Then we never would have had ILM, and that means no, The Abyss. Which means no T2, or Jurassic Park. Today's Hollywood owes everything to the imagination of a car enthusiast from Modesto, California.
My grandma took her son to see these movies when they came out. He passed in an accident the year I was born. She took me to see the Special Edition releases some years later. As a relatively new subscriber, I just want to say how personal it feels, and what a pleasure it is, to have joined this family in time to be here with you as you experience these films, which are not only milestones in cinematic history, but so timeless and iconic that they have become nothing short of a cultural mythology shared world wide. May The Force be with you. Always.
It was nominated for 11 Oscars including Best Picture but won for: Best Visual Effects Best Original Score Best Film Editing Best Costume Design Best Production Design Best Sound Editing Best Sound Mixing. It made $775 million dollars ($3.5 billion dollars) against an $11 million dollar budget. Kurt Russell, Perry King, Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, Sylvester Stallone, Burt Reynolds, and Nick Nolte were considered for Han Solo. William Katt, Kurt Russell, and Charles Martin Smith were considered for Luke Skywalker. Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster, Cindy Williams, Sissy Spacek, Angelica Huston, Kim Basinger, Sigourney Weaver, Terri Nunn, and Geena Davis were considered for Princess Leia.
When I think of Leia’s line: “You flew here in that thing? You’re braver than I thought.” I can absolutely see Jodie Foster, Angelica Huston, or Geena Davis delivering it. Foster isn’t as good as Carrie Fisher was for “love interest” material IMO, Angelica Huston would have been AWESOME, but I guess 1977 sadly wasn’t ready for that yet, and Geena Davis is just too tall to play against Hamill as a pseudo-love interest. Oddly, I think the movie would be almost identical if William Katt had gotten the part of Luke. Might be the first time I’ve ever thought a major character was so replaceable. He would have also muddied the waters more as far as the Ill-conceived “love triangle” played out. It was probably a good decision to cast a Luke who was less competition for Han.
The grid with the boxes is you in the middle of the grid. The grid shows your vicinity and the dots shows when other ships fly around you, so you can know where to turn and look to shoot. It's like a 3D version of the radar system you see on them movies

I hate that George changed the Krayt roar into a noise the animaniacs would make when they see a cartoon girl. May as well just have added "Helloooooo nurse!!!"
When this movie came out, I was ten years old. I rode my bike to the theater in my town 10 times to see it, plus the times we saw it with friends, and my parents. That Christmas, I got a bunch of Star Wars action figures and I played with them every day. I had Han, Luke, Chewie, Threepio, a Storm Trooper and Darth Vader. Then we got the Star Wars soundtrack on album and I played that for hours. Until my Mom got sick of it and hid the album except for once every other day. Good Times!
If you got action figures on Christmas of '77 you were pretty special. Every other kid in America got a piece of cardboard with a promise of toys. Kenner wasn't able to make the Christmas deadline. No Star Wars action figures existed Christmas morning 1977.
I saw this opening night at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood after they had to open a midnight show because the line was all the way down Hollywood Boulevard. Charlton Heston came out of the screening ahead of us, grinning from ear to ear. When the first STAR WARS title and music blasted, the whole audience was climbing the rafters cheering, out of their minds. Nobody had ever seen anything like it before and everyone in that giant theater felt like a family of geeks who had finally found the galaxy they came from.
I was 4 years old, J… My parents had 6 kids and I was the youngest, and my dad would actually go see movies first, by himself, to make sure the content was OK for all of us.. And we all piled in a van and drove into Houston to see Star Wars (no sequels then) at the Galleria in Houston.. What a memory..
Obi-Wan didn't tell Luke because he wasn't ready. Luke idolized the idea he had of his father. And being told that his father was *actually* one of the galaxy's greatest monsters could not have led to anything positive at this point in the boy's life.
Actually no. Ben told Luke Vader was a pupil that killed his father and he meant it. That was how Lucas wrote the story. It was only when he began writing his ideas for, The Empire Strikes Back , that he came up with the whole idea of Vader being Luke's father.
I'm so excited to go on this journey with you. I've been a fan since watching it all up on the big screen as an 8 year old girl in 1977! Leia became my childhood hero instantly! There was nothing like this back then. Enjoy!
John Williams’ score was absolutely iconic, the greatest movie soundtrack ever in my opinion. This is an amazing film franchise (which has some flaws) but everything does in life! Star Wars.. the absolute greatest. Love it! I could see you as Vader doing the imperial march with the dogs.. (anyone interested in that?!) haha Take care man, thank you for entertaining me with the movie reactions! :)
To answer your question Mr. Murder Whistle. George Lucas added that CG BS to the original trilogy, cuz there were things he wanted to do, that he wasn't able to do with practical effects of it's time. Then he just got carried away with the CG of all of his movies 😂
"Why did he add CGI" I wish we all knew lol he thought it would improve it or tie it in better to the future ones I guess. Luckily I digitized my old VHS copies pre-cgi. Really enjoyed your reaction and can't wait to check out how you like the next two (then I'm done, cause those are the only ones that matter to me lol) have a great one
It was never Episode IV in the beginning; I would also argue that with Lucas’ original concept he didn’t have Darth being the father or Leila being Luke’s twin sister.
Yeah, the invention of Leia being his sister for Return of the Jedi was really ridiculous…. In fact, I have developed a strong dislike for the third film…. Lucas really blew it. Shoulda told a very different story than the one he chose…
In identifying the Rebel spacecraft, Luke was flying an X-wing fighter (which you knew). The smaller ones seen in the first shot as they're making their way towards the Death Star were A-wings, and the ones that went in on the initial run to the trench were Y-wings. Later on in Return of the Jedi, you'll also see a B-wing.
To answer Jay’s question on why the films were changed George Lucas considered the theatrical films “unfinished” and years later went back to update them to match his “vision”. However he continuously went back to update them several times over the years partly so they’d fit in better with the prequels and later for a 3D rerelease that never happened. Because he considers the theatricals “unfinished” they are no longer available.
there was a DVD release with the updated and theatrical editions on separate discs a while back and there will be some still floating around you can nab online 2ndhand
It’s really a terrible excuse to do that. The theatrical films are what Made Star Wars the Cultural Event that they were. Changing them after the fact is like parading a counterfeit around and claiming that it is the same. I mean it wouldn’t be all that bad if they still released the original films, unaltered.. but they don’t. Which sucks, because I lost my original vhs collection in a house fire, and trying to replace them is terribly expensive.
There's also the despecialized editions of the movies. Although they are technically bootleg versions. So it's up to you wether or not you want to buy those.
I hate Lucas for that and if I ever meet him I’ll snarl!!!!!!!!!! SOMEBODY must have copies of the original Star Wars movies that were a blockbuster hit the day each one opened. Lucas messed with perfection!!!!!!!!!🤬
the sense of wonder this movie generated in me as a child is amazing.. just the fact the movie starts in what feels like half way through an already established story.. and doesnt stop to try and explain anything to you. a new hope continues to be my favourite or all star wars. especially the first half. its very much a comfort movie for me.
I love how Raul Julia as M. Bison's hat keeps going down over his eyes and sometimes even over his nose. That is top quality humor and I am here for it.
@@HabitualCinema Understandable. Not to rub it in but thankfully I have both my VHS and DVD original versions, and it is the only version I watch. (I didn't mean to take away from your point, because the SE version of that call is funny. 😁)
This film always brings back a special memory for me! When it came out in 1977 I was 20 years old and myself and a bunch of friends went to go see this in the theater and we were all on mescaline!! It's truly a remarkable film to see especially for the first time and especially under the influence of a mild hallucinogenic!!😅 I have rarely laughed as hard as I did that day!!😂😂
“I had a pull-out joke” 😂😂😂
My favorite dirty line is “You came in that thing? You’re braver than I thought.”
Vader's tone of voice delivering that line is sinister as hell. It's the perfect mix of dismissiveness, callousness, and amusement.
Sassing Vader is a decidedly bad idea when it comes to self-preservation.

It's crazy how much John Williams' incredible score just elevates everything in this movie to another level.
To be honest without the scores in this movie it would actually suck. Let’s be honest the acting is subpar in this movie.
His scores are responsible for a lot of film success. Indiana Jones trilogy, Jaws, Superman, etc. etc.
@@BeyondVulgar for sure.
His Star Wars score, like all his scores are emotional, powerful and help tell the story. Jurassic Park is probably my favorite.
@@spartan_warrior5927Alec Guinness, Peter Cushing and James Earl Jones were subpar?? Sheesh lol. They are legends and their acting was superior in this movie.

And then the greedy disney execs thought they could 'please' anyone by giving him one at the end of the new Star Trash trilogy

When Leia was referring to her father, she was talking about Senator Bail Organa, whom she did not know actually adopted her as his daughter.

One of the coolest things about Vader is he was played by two characters. David Prowse was his body and James Earl Jones was his voice . And that early scene where he pucks the guy up with one arm was legit. Prowse was a massive powerlifter and weight lifter
“Why did he add CGI to the old movies?”
So, if you ask George Lucas, or most Star Wars fans, it’s because he always _wanted_ to include this stuff, but the technology just wasn’t there back in the day.
The new cgi is garbage for the most part especially in the 6th episode at jabbas Palance, trash

Name one other villain you can identify by their breathing. Once you hear the breath intake, you know everything is about to get turned up.
He was, until Rogue One and the Kenobi show, turned him into an incompetent moron.
I think the top two have to be Lord Vader and the Wicked Witch of the West for all time best movie villains. At least in my opinion.

20:47 That day, Tarkin was amazed to discover that when Vader was saying "As you wish," what he meant was, "I love you."
😂🤣 Facts!!!
My mother was a music professor and elementary school music teacher for 40+ years. She used to play her Star Wars record over and over and I remember she would explain to me (granted as a bratty kid of the 80's I didn't care) how amazing the score was and thought it was divine and revolutionary.
My mom was right!🎵🎶💚
Get you a woman that passionate about culture
Not initially but many years later I want to say in the early 2000's she and I talked about it.☺
@@PenTheMightyLucas told Williams he wanted to use Holst's, " The Planets " for the film.
The movie changed my life. I was 10. The audience gave it a standing ovation at the end.
A lot happens in the first half of this film. Star Wars isn't exactly a slow paced movie.
The entire world they're in is built during that time lol
It sounded like you were describing a Christmas story in the first half of that comment lmao
They can't shoot, but they'll burn your house down!
I judge every reaction of this movie by the ending scene.
If you're not immediately mad Chewie didn't get a medal, we can't hang.
I love Chewbacca! He doesn’t get enough recognition for his skills! ♥️
He didn't even get a medal.😢

The sequels are trash
The third movie is incredible and I will take no arguments 😂
It wasn't ANH when it was first released.
Looking forward to seeing your reaction to the Star Wars Series. This is where the fun begins. May the Force be with you.
Imagine seeing this in the theater as a 10 yr old boy. We had never seen special effects like this before. I was in awe!!
Same here. People today who missed that transition period of before/after 1977 will never be able to understand
J should totally watch THE LADYKILLERS.

My father was a trained hypnotist and as a kid I used to think he could hypnotize people exactly like Obi Wan because my daddy could make people cluck like chickens in his shows.😂 Obviously I learned later in life real hypnosis isn't quite like "the Force". 😊
I guess close enough though...ancient seers and such have used something like that for centuries. In ur experience, how effective is hypnotism
The force is strong with this one! Not many know or get that reference. Good job. 😀

"Why'd he add the cgi."
There was a belief in the early days that CGI was the perfect special effect. That it looked 100% perfectly real, despite clearly not looking real. So Lucas felt it would be possible to back and add all the creatures that he wanted to, but couldn't do practically in the 1970s. It didn't turn out the way he expected.
It was ego and spitefulness. Ego for wanting to post change art, and spite for wanting to cut his ex-wife out of royalties.

Fun Fact: The first movie to make over $300 million domestic box office.

If Star Wars never came into our lives, visual effects would have been set back at least another 5 to 7 years. Then we never would have had ILM, and that means no, The Abyss. Kurt Russell, Perry King, Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, Sylvester Stallone, Burt Reynolds, and Nick Nolte were considered for Han Solo.
William Katt, Kurt Russell, and Charles Martin Smith were considered for Luke Skywalker.
Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster, Cindy Williams, Sissy Spacek, Angelica Huston, Kim Basinger, Sigourney Weaver, Terri Nunn, and Geena Davis were considered for Princess Leia.
When I think of Leia’s line:
“You flew here in that thing?

And in the Cantina scene, "Oh that looks like the devil", made me think of the Richard Pryor Star Wars Parody which is a great short as well.
Yeah it was funny
Hey everybody o/ Man, this is what I needed at the end of the day. You know when you start gettin comfortable enough at the new job to walk in hungover after one of those nights crossin your fingers you dont get sick at work? That was me today for 10 hours. I tell you, it was a struggle my friends 😂 but thats the deal you make with yourself the night before man. This is what I needed today. Thanks guys. Lets be excellent to each other 🙏🏽
I can't wait for you to react to all the Star War movies. Love your reactions.
I hate that George changed the Krayt roar into a noise the animaniacs would make when they see a cartoon girl. May as well just have added "Helloooooo nurse!!!"
Wooooeeeeooooopppp... yeah not a fan either.
@@tommc3622 I know I got action figures, but that was more years back than I care to count. I may be wrong about which year. C'est la vie
@Thom1212 It's all good. Just poking at you a bit with some trivia.
I was 2 in 1977, so don't mind me.
😉
I saw this opening night at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood after they had to open a midnight show because the line was all the way down Hollywood Boulevard. Charlton Heston came out of the screening ahead of us, grinning from ear to ear. When the first STAR WARS title and music blasted, the whole audience was climbing the rafters cheering, out of their minds. Nobody had ever seen anything like it before and everyone in that giant theater felt like a family of geeks who had finally found the galaxy they came from.
I couldn’t imagine how amazing these films must of been back in the day at the cinema, Amazing films can’t wait for this 😍
I was 4 years old, J… My parents had 6 kids and I was the youngest, and my dad would actually go see movies first, by himself, to make sure the content was OK for all of us..
@@philosopher0076 True. From our perspective. But I'm writing from an in-universe view.
I'm so excited to go on this journey with you. I've been a fan since watching it all up on the big screen as an 8 year old girl in 1977! Leia became my childhood hero instantly! There was nothing like this back then. Enjoy!
This is gonna be good 😁🍿
John Williams’ score was absolutely iconic, the greatest movie soundtrack ever in my opinion.
This is an amazing film franchise (which has some flaws) but everything does in life!
Star Wars.. the absolute greatest. Love it!
I could see you as Vader doing the imperial march with the dogs.. (anyone interested in that?!) haha
Take care man, thank you for entertaining me with the movie reactions!
The story decision to make Leia Luke's sister was a quick and amicable way to resolve the love triangle among Luke, Han & Leia.
@@subtlesraf yup i got mine, so I know 'han shot first' and don't have to see badly done Jabba out there like he is a fresh slug
I hate Lucas for that and if I ever meet him I’ll snarl!!!!!!!!!! SOMEBODY must have copies of the original Star Wars movies that were a blockbuster hit the day each one opened.
Lucas messed with perfection!!!!!!!!!🤬
That's a great story about the doctor and asthma. That's a good dude who knows how to deal with kids.
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU
#starwars #episodeIV
the sense of wonder this movie generated in me as a child is amazing.. just the fact the movie starts in what feels like half way through an already established story.. and doesnt stop to try and explain anything to you. a new hope continues to be my favourite or all star wars. especially the first half. its very much a comfort movie for me.
May the force be with the copilots.
I love how Raul Julia as M. Bison's hat keeps going down over his eyes and sometimes even over his nose. That is top quality humor and I am here for it.
Even my mother enjoyed this movie, and she's not a sci-fi fan.
I was captivated by your shirt.
Dude kept playing a creepy game of peek a boo with me.
RIP Raul Julia
No matter how many times I watch this I always die laughing at Obi’s Krayt call in the beginning 😂
Unless you are watching the theatrical release that wasn't the original Krayt call.
@@sandman_says_runrunner4701 I vaguely remember the original versions from when I had them on vhs but it’s been so long since I’ve seen them unaltered
@@HabitualCinema Understandable. Not to rub it in but thankfully I have both my VHS and DVD original versions, and it is the only version I watch.
(I didn't mean to take away from your point, because the SE version of that call is funny. 😁)
@@sandman_says_runrunner4701 😂 no worries. I’m gonna have to get my hands on the dvd set
@@HabitualCinema Yeah, I am thinking of trying to track down an extra set and keep the others in a vault. 🤣 (Joking but not joking.)
This film always brings back a special memory for me! When it came out in 1977 I was 20 years old and myself and a bunch of friends went to go see this in the theater and we were all on mescaline!! It's truly a remarkable film to see especially for the first time and especially under the influence of a mild hallucinogenic!!😅
I have rarely laughed as hard as I did that day!!😂😂
The CGI was a cash grab done in 1996 to build funds for the prequels
It was also an EGO stroke and a way to cut his Ex out of royalties.
The way the fold in his shirt makes it look like Bison is trying to keep the sun outta his eyes, amused me throughout the vid.
In 1977 walked out of Star Wars at 10 years old, first time seeing it, and I said to my dad and brother, "I bet Darth Vader is Luke's father."
What made you suspect it?
I just realized how long it's been since I've watched these movies and the music and sound effect are so iconic
