The music is its own character in the story, and it's one of my favorite characters of the series. The piece where Yoda pulls Luke's X-Wing out of the swamp is scoring at its finest.
The Cloud City theme is 10/10 as well. Perfect mix of majestic and mysterious, with a barely-detectable ominous quality. Blows my mind that John Williams composed music that so exactly matches the emotional tone of the scenes in all 3 movies (and a whole lot of others).
Can we take a sec to appreciate the balls on Han Solo? He took several shots at Darth Vader with ZERO hesitation. Even after torturing him, Vader refers to Han as 'Captain' Solo.

Its not like Lando had much of a choice. When Darth Vader shows up with an Imperial Fleet, you pretty much do whatever they say. Vader made him "an offer he couldn't refuse."
Bro, I was 13 when my Godfather took me to see Empire, when Vader said he was Luke's father the whole theater gasped, it was all EVERYONE talked about in School on Monday. Now Boba Fett was so cool you couldn't just buy his action figure when it first came out, you had to buy three other figures or toys and Mail in the 3 UPC symbols from the back of the packages with $15 and then he would arrive Special Delivery in about three weeks. And by then C3PO had his own cereal 3POs shaped like figure eights with a taste of honey, with a cut out 3PO mask on the back of the box. There were allot of merch a few months after the first Star Wars but even before Empire came out there was plenty of stuff available.
Yup and then after Empire, they said “hey, this merchandising angle has huge profit! So let’s put a bunch of teddybears in the next one and just make the whole franchise all about selling toys to children!”
Yoda's life gem drops: You must unlearn what you have learned. Size matters not, only different in your mind. Do or do not, there is no try. Luke-"I don't believe it"... Yoda-"and that is why you failed."
Love your LOL at 'how rude!'....that 3PO moment ALWAYS cracks me up too. Also LMAO at your take on Vader 'I do whatever the fuck I want'. Got that right! At the end, when the Millenium Falcon escapes into hyperspace, Vader doesn't kill Admiral Piett because he is preoccupied by the experience of meeting his son. Anakin was always super emotional.
People always talk about how dark this movie is. I’m glad you highlighted how fun it is. There’s really good humor that isn’t necessarily comedic, but all the characters and dialogue and inventiveness of the locations have such personality. It’s charming filmmaking incarnate. I think this is one of the most fun adventure films to watch to this day.
36:03 the look of love. Han is about to possibly die a painful death, and he is level headed enough to tell Chewie to stop trying to save him and protect the princess.

@@TheCrazyCanuck420Yeah, Empire and Rogue One for me. I can kinda take or leave the rest, but there's honestly just so much of an oversaturation with Star Wars content these days that I'm kinda just off of it altogether.
Yeah everybody hates on the Ewoks but there is plenty of good meat on the bone in Return of the Jedi plus it had a lot of loose ends to tie up from Empire.
Return would have been a good resolution to Empire had there been a lot less camp in the middle of it. Its not so much the Ewoks themselves but the whole indecisiveness to treat them either seriously or not. Leia talks to one of these hitherto unknown creature like a child, but it could have gone full Lord Nibbler on her and ate her. Theyre cuddly and useless, but also not to be messed with. PICK A LANE GEORGE! If theyd either been taken seriously all the way through, like the Noghri in the Legends novels, or treated as helpless but in need of saving from the Empire, or just not been there at all, then they'd not have upset the momentum of the plot.
When Han flies into the asteroid field... the drama, the tension, the music-it's one of the reasons I fell in love with Star Wars and cinema in general. One of my favorite scenes of any film ever. ♥
I've got a suggestion for a film to watch for Halloween, it may sound odd as a suggestion - Watership Down, it is a 1978 children's film that was rated U and after 45 years it has just had its rating increased to PG here in the UK. It isn't at all promoted as a horror or scary but I suspect if you watch it, you will understand why I suggested it for a horror month...
Lando had no choice but to submit to the Empire. He planned this out so that he could escape with his friends. He wasn’t betraying them at all. Luke actually complicated the escape more than it had to be. If Luke doesn’t show up and listens to Yoda to stay on Dagobah, Lando and the crew still escape. The scene where she is screaming it’s a trap to Luke, is where the plan gets delayed. Because of this Han is taken away by Boba Fett.
Yes, Lando had a greater responsibility, to all the people who worked for him and helped him build up the gas mine. That was the major thing on his mind.
Even though it was never specifically mentioned, I imagine Vader threatened the lives of the whole city and would have done it too. Lando knew he had no choice. In fact, I'm sure it wasn't very pleasant for the citizens that didn't escape during the evacuation.
Vader’s sad devotion to that ancient religion did not give him clairvoyance enough to realize just how clever of a scoundrel he was really dealing with.
@@zatoichi1 The Empire blew up an entire planet just to punish Leia (and to test the Death Star, but they didn't have to blow up an inhabited planet). Hell yeah, Vader would have slaughtered everyone in Cloud City if Lando didn't obey.
@@Mazra42 The gas mine was actually a valuable resource for the Empire, so Vader wouldn't have killed everyone, BUT he would've killed or done something worse for Lando and taken the city over, basically enslaving everyone. Like he mentions in the movie "It would be unfortunate if I would have to leave a garrison here." In Lando's perspective, of course that all is just as bad as Vader killing the whole city.
They did Prowse dirty because they didn't tell him that they Jones to voiceover dub his performance. He invited his family and friends to the first film premiere and that's when he learned that they swapped his voice for Jones.
JEJ is just the voice. David Prowse was in the costume. Watching all 3 in the theaters when they first came out was an incredible experience here in NYC! I was 16 when A New Hope came out.
J, you watching this for the first time brought back memories of the first time I saw it: my buddies and I had to leave school early, drive an hour to the ONLY theatre on Long Island that was showing it, then stand in line for four hours because there was only one screen (multiplexes weren't really a thing yet, at least there), spend two hours + in the theatre, then drive the hour home bemoaning the fact that we had to wait three years before we could see how it all worked out! You kids today don't realize how easy you have it!
A nice detail is Piett stepping up and tensing when the Falcon speeds off. Regardless of whose fault it is, he knows he's a dead man and he can't run away. And the look people give Vader as he walks off the bridge.
I don't understand why people find that line so funny, or a douchey thing to say. Leia thought she might never see him again (because he'd either die being frozen or be lost forever as wall decor) and wanted to make sure Han knew how she really felt all along, and that she regrets her cattiness and bickering towards him. Han saying "I know" was both him assuring her that he understands why she behaved that way (both of them being from wildly different social standings and Leia feeling she can't allow herself to have feelings for a scoundrel like Han) and that he feels the same way about her. And as Harrison Ford correctly remarked, "I love you too" wouldn't have been a very Han Solo thing to say.
Prior to 'Empire' I didn't know there was a such possibility as a sequel. The original will always be my favorite. I was 8 1/2 first time I saw it and that movie literally changed my life. Blew my mind. Star Wars got me interested in science fiction, space travel and lasers and that got me into science and math and that eventually got me into engineering and an amazingly rewarding career. It all goes back to that movie.
Carrie Fisher was a bad ass writer too. I think she wrote most of Leia's dialogue herself as well as writing work on the scripts for Hook, Last Action Hero, Lethal Weapon 3, The River Wild, The Wedding Singer and a lot of Sister Act. RIP GOAT
@@_BangDroid_ Super lame comment. Carrie was talented beyond your comprehension it seems. I guess I was 11 or 12 when I saw this in the theater and it was just as you might think. We had some comics and other literature floating around and mostly we just had to wait until 1983 for ROTJ to tell us anything definitive. Those were the days. Far, far better and simpler days. Dammit I miss the Eighties.
"She bad. I didn't know Carrie Fisher was like that." You ain't seen nothin' yet. "The music is on point." John Williams' greatest soundtrack, IMO. (Although it's a possible tie with his soundtrack for "Superman: The Movie".)
This movie takes place 3 years after the previous film. I hope you are reading the opening text crawl at the beginning of each film. They explain what has just happened prior to the beginning of the current episode.
And between *A New Hope* and *The Empire Strikes Back* , 1. Crix Madine and Kasan Moor defected from the Imperial and join the Rebellion. 2. The Alliance gain more fighters to the group after rescuing rebel prisoners from Kessel. 3. They take out Moff Kohl Seerdon as he preparing to attack Thyferra.
Not to mention the puppeting. And Frank had to puppet Yoda _underneath_ the whole soundstage, so he had to memorize where Mark was in the scene and puppet blind.
And he also does human cameos in the damnedest places. 'An American Werewolf in London', 'The Blues Brothers', 'Knives Out'. He'll just pop up in a scene.
Yea, this has always been my favorite. As a kid watching Star Wars and this one, my friend's and I all wanted to be Han Solo instead of Luke Skywalker. He was a rebel outlaw and his best friend is Chewbacca. The 'I know' line after Princess Leia says 'I love you', pretty much typifies Han's character. You know they wouldn't make a male character like that today.
What makes it even better is that it was an ad lid response. The script had Han just reply with a standard "I love you too" but Harrison Ford was a pimp among nerd writes so he improvised the "I know" cause he knew it was a better line and more along something Han would say.
British bodybuilder David Prose was inside the Vader suit in all the OT (Original Trilogy) films and James Earl Jones provided the voice via post-production looping. Frank Oz, who voiced Miss Piggy from THE MUPPET SHOW, does the voice of Yoda. The director, Irving Kushner was George Lucas's favorite instructor from UCLA Film School. Leigh Brackett, who co-wrote the film, was the name sake for the Sheriff Leigh Brackett from HALLOWEEN.
James Earl Jones is just the voice, David Prowse was in the costume. If you look on RUclips you can find original footage of David doing the voice, it's very different.
Hi J! To answer your question at the end (without spoilers as you requested) there are actually tons of plays and movies where the good guy loses. Back in Ancient Greece, they would actually spoil plays beforehand by telling you if it was a “Comedy” (which means the good guy wins) or a “Tragedy” (which means the good guy loses). They had to advertise tragedies as such ahead of time so that audiences wouldn’t get mad when the good guy lost. The words have changed meaning a bit over 4500 years, but there are still a ton of tragedy movies out there. I think as you watch more non-American movies you’ll come across more tragedies, that’s the most I can say without spoiling some of the biggest ones. Looking forward to seeing you continue your movie journey!

Rumor had it they added in the taun taun scene and Luke being injured by the wampa to cover up Mark Hamill's injuries from a car accident, but Lucas denied it. 3.
John Williams don't miss!
Can we take a sec to appreciate the balls on Han Solo? He took several shots at Darth Vader with ZERO hesitation. Even after torturing him, Vader refers to Han as 'Captain' Solo.
Don’t thank us for feeling like a family!!
It’s all you and the copilots man!! You make this feel like a family community!!! You take the time to read and respond to your fans, take requests, give frequent updates. You and Blank are the reason why this is a family, we thank you, Rommy, Droopy drogo, and blank for creating this fun, humble, relaxing space for Us!! Love ya JL!
We here for you always my murder whistle
LMAO @ "Golden Sheldon" 😂😂😂😂
Its not like Lando had much of a choice. When Darth Vader shows up with an Imperial Fleet, you pretty much do whatever they say. Vader made him "an offer he couldn't refuse."
But it was a great double twist in the end.
Imperial offer you can't refuse: "Do or die."
Right? What was Lando supposed to do, choose a couple of humans, a wookie, and a droid over the thousands of people in Cloud City?
Yoda's life gem drops:
You must unlearn what you have learned.
19:45 If you notice her whole vibe towards Han changes after that kiss. She pretty much stopped fighting it after this scene
Because he's a pimp. He showed his pimp game.
@@russellward4624 Agreed
People always talk about how dark this movie is. I’m glad you highlighted how fun it is. There’s really good humor that isn’t necessarily comedic, but all the characters and dialogue and inventiveness of the locations have such personality. It’s charming filmmaking incarnate. I think this is one of the most fun adventure films to watch to this day.
"Luke, I am your father" is one of the most common misquotes in history.
36:03 the look of love. Han is about to possibly die a painful death, and he is level headed enough to tell Chewie to stop trying to save him and protect the princess.
Shout-out to Peter Cushing as Grand Moff Tarkin. He is a horror legend. Curse of Frankenstein (1957) or Horror of Dracula (1958) are two of his films working for Hammer Horror. Would be good for October.
James Earl Jones makes a badass bad guy in Star Wars and in Conan the Barbarian.
I enjoy your videos especially because I can tell you're truly invested in the characters. Good stuff! ❤
No one saw the twist ending!
It made my jaw drop when i saw this on VHS!
"I'm surprised we see him alive again... aw, nevermind." 😂🤣😂🤣😂
I'm surprised we see him alive again...oh, nevermind. Lmao
I love your content I'm spending extra money on popcorn to watch You.😂😂😂🍿🍿🍿🍿
Empires soundtrack is so rad. Every cool moment has unique music to go with it
My fave of the original trilogy for so many reasons.
So happy J you are finally getting to enjoy these classics.☺💚
Saw this in theaters when I was 5 years old back in 1980 and it changed my life.
Golden Sheldon 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You laughing at 3PO was hilarious😅
3PO and R2 are the comedic core of the trilogy. Anthony Daniels is so good as 3P0!
Personally, I will always have a special love for Return of the Jedi...but I definitely believe that Empire is a better film than Return. 💯
I'm fairly certain most old school fans like this one best as well. On my top list ep 5, ep 4, rogue 1.
Rated U for uveryone
That movie was traumatizing as a young child.
My favorite animated movie of all time
Parental Guidance is quite the downgrade from Unwatchable. That's the the "U" means, right? ...right?
Scared the cr@p outta me as a kid that movie, still can’t watch it.
I’m glad your channel is getting bigger bro!
Greatly appreciate that
Topped by @27:15, "Im surprised we see him alive again" .... "oh never mind".
“Did he say 800 years? How fkin old is Yoda??”
He’s over 900 when we meet him here. And yes, he actually did train jedi for that long.
David Prowse was Vader's Body. James Earl Jones was the Voice of Vader.
They did Prowse dirty because they didn't tell him that they Jones to voiceover dub his performance. He invited his family and friends to the first film premiere and that's when he learned that they swapped his voice for Jones.
Vader's Tie Fighter was a special version with a hyperdrive, so he could just go wherever after he got it to stop spinning.
The Executor (his personal star destroyer) was probably parked a few clicks away... Just speculating on the SW lore.
*nice skull BTW
It's 'The Executor' not the Devastator. Sorry had to correct that lol
@kbe2176
Thanks, fixed it.
Been a hot minute since I read the books, and that didn't seem right.

Yoda lived in exile.
The Empire thought that he was already dead.
You’re definitely my favourite RUclips reactor mate, always make me laugh. Greetings from England
@7:23 “Bruh, he’s good. He’s gonna be in the next movie.” 🤣
"Who's Your Papa?"
Lol... PAPA SMURF. 😆
The "kangaroo things" are called Tauntauns, The guy in the Vader suit is named David Prowse, James Earl Jones does the Vader voice only.
I absolutely love all of your videos. I also really like that you find Threepio so funny. Best of luck buddy, and take care of those pups!
The actor in the Vader suit is 6'6" British actor David Prowse who was a powerlifter and bodybuilder in the 60's.
David Prowse, a British actor and strongman was the person under Vader's costume. James Earl Jones just did his voice.
*Just* did his voice. Like that voice wasn't the key to bringing the whole character together.
4:02
"She's so bad man, I didn't know Carrie Fisher was like that.."
(Nobody tell him)
JEJ is just the voice. David Prowse was in the costume. Watching all 3 in the theaters when they first came out was an incredible experience here in NYC! I was 16 when A New Hope came out.
This was hands down my favorite movie for most of my childhood.
J, please keep laughing at golden Danny Glover knees
J, you watching this for the first time brought back memories of the first time I saw it: my buddies and I had to leave school early, drive an hour to the ONLY theatre on Long Island that was showing it, then stand in line for four hours because there was only one screen (multiplexes weren't really a thing yet, at least there), spend two hours + in the theatre, then drive the hour home bemoaning the fact that we had to wait three years before we could see how it all worked out! You kids today don't realize how easy you have it!
Imperial march is the dopest theme music in a movie ever made. No comparison
@36:31 Chewy wailing over losing his longtime friend makes me weep. I can feel his loss.
A nice detail is Piett stepping up and tensing when the Falcon speeds off. Regardless of whose fault it is, he knows he's a dead man and he can't run away. And the look people give Vader as he walks off the bridge.
I cant wait to see the reaction to:
"I Love you" "I know"
Lol
@@szeddezs I heard Harrison ad-libbed the line.
44:40 greatest “Thanks for playin’”😂😂😂😂😂
"I'm surprised we see him alive again... Oh, nevermind" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Strong with the Force, young Skywalker is." 😂
I love Yoda! 💚
Carrie Fisher was a bad ass writer too. I think she wrote most of Leia's dialogue herself as well as writing work on the scripts for Hook, Last Action Hero, Lethal Weapon 3, The River Wild, The Wedding Singer and a lot of Sister Act. RIP GOAT
Her coke dealer should get some credit too
@@_BangDroid_ Super lame comment. Carrie was talented beyond your comprehension it seems. She spent her life bringing awareness to understanding mental health, after struggling to accept it in herself. As well everything she contributed to the movie and film canon of our time. And here you go making some dumb comment based on rumors and stories. People are quick to diminish the strength of women. I suggest you ask why you thought this was necessary.
@@Staceysprobablycrying Yeah it was lame. Just a lame joke that doesn't mean anything. Nothing more. It doesn't attack or diminish her and it's certainly not hate speech against women. Maybe develop a sense of humor or find another way to no be outraged at every perceived slight against your group.
@@StaceysprobablycryingIt's just a joke. Yes, we're all sad about her death. Yes, we love Star Wars. Yes, she was talented.
But, no it's not a rumor.
It's known that she was an addict. All of the young main characters on the film took drugs back then.
It was The 70s.
She was young.
She was the daughter of two famous Hollywood actors.
And now she was famous for being in one of the biggest blockbusters of the time.
Unless my memory is worse than usual, she talked And wrote about it

can’t wait for the Wampa scene. hope it’s the one that has him eating.
I have to disagree with you on that one. The theatrical release is so much better and that scene has way more tension when you do not see the wampa.
@@sandman_says_runrunner4701 It is better, but I think OP meant he wants to see J's grossed out reaction.
@@szeddezs Ah... well, in that case, I hope he got the reaction he was hoping for. 😁
If you think Carrie Fisher is hot in this one, wait til Return of the Jedi.
She is never as hot as when she's being mean to Han Solo. That's just my fucked-up opinion.
Luke went from "i can do anything, let me go" to "it's impossible" in a pretty short span of time lol.
"He will learn patience" - yeah, sure Obi... Luke utterly fails his training on Dagobah.
I just found your channel today and I have to say, you have already become one of my favorite reactors on RUclips.
The music was, indeed, impeccable...courtesy of John Williams.
The best of them all.
This is another one in the series that I love.
The dog struggling to move under the blanket at the start 😂😂
Lando had the security patrol warn Han off when they were arriving, that's why they were firing on them with warning shots.
I saw your blankets moving behind you, and I was like, “What the hell?” It was your dog just hanging out back there. So cute!😂😊
My favourite movie of all time. This one has it all. What a time it was to be alive during the original trilogy release ❤😊
Hope you are having an great and awesome ❤
"She bad. I didn't know Carrie Fisher was like that."
You ain't seen nothin' yet.
"The music is on point."
John Williams' greatest soundtrack, IMO. (Although it's a possible tie with his soundtrack for "Superman: The Movie".)
Yeah this was my favorite, Han was my favorite character especially after Leia proclaimed her love and he was like, I know!! 🤣😂 Savage!!
This movie takes place 3 years after the previous film.
I hope you are reading the opening text crawl at the beginning of each film. They explain what has just happened prior to the beginning of the current episode.
And between *A New Hope* and *The Empire Strikes Back* ,
1. Crix Madine and Kasan Moor defected from the Imperial and join the Rebellion.
2. The Alliance gain more fighters to the group after rescuing rebel prisoners from Kessel.
3. They take out Moff Kohl Seerdon as he preparing to attack Thyferra.
i met him in a swamp down in Degobah, where it bubbles all the time like a giant carbonated soda, S O D A soda
Frank Oz does the voice of Yoda. He also is the voice of miss piggy, Fozzie bear, and Grover from Sesame Street.
Frank brings incredible layers to Yoda. The way he flips from fun to scary, and his disappointment in Luke is crushing.
Not to mention the puppeting. And Frank had to puppet Yoda _underneath_ the whole soundstage, so he had to memorize where Mark was in the scene and puppet blind.
Also Bert on Sesame Street.
And he also does human cameos in the damnedest places. 'An American Werewolf in London', 'The Blues Brothers', 'Knives Out'. He'll just pop up in a scene.
You ask who is in the suit. In ‘A Clockwork Orange’ there is a large man who is an aide to the writer who’s wife has died. He was the physical Darth
Carpenter's Halloween is my favorite film and I never knew that about Leigh Brackett. Wow. Thank you!
Frank Oz voiced AND performed Yoda, the puppet.
@@les4767 ... Yes, I left that part out. He was also the puppetier who actually operated Yoda, as well.
James Earl Jones is just the voice, David Prowse was in the costume. If you look on RUclips you can find original footage of David doing the voice, it's very different.
My dude! Dope thumbnail! OMFG 😂😂
Mr Colt 45🤣... I remember those ads.
"Han's ship ghetto af, but it be getting it"
Perfectly summarizes why the Falcon is so iconic.
C3 Unit: "E Choota"
C3PO: "How Rude!"

29:48 The Millenium Falcon is a cargo ship. That's why it's so big for just a couple people. It's a Corellian YT model, basically converted into a motorhome of sorts. It was nice at one time.
I love your dog just vibing in the background during your reaction.
@40:07 David Prowse shouted “damn” and they never changed it.
I knew J was gonna jump ten feet when that mynock attaches to the window but it was still hilarious.
The look on Romulus’s face must have been priceless learning who his real father is 😂
This last go at Disney world when we did all the Star Wars rides, my wife wore the leia “I love you” shirt and I wore the Han “I know” shirt. I knew there was a reason we were married
How many here want him to react to all 3 of the Family Guy Star Wars episodes after he finishes these 3?? 🙋🏻♂️
I've been recommending those to reactors who enjoy the humor of the trilogy with no luck yet 😅
I was about to make the same recommendation. He may want to wait until after seeing episodes 1-3, though. It's been awhile since I've seen them, but I think there were probably some references to the prequels.
+1 this. Also, the Robot Chicken / Star Wars stuff is pretty good. Vader's call to the Emperor after the 1st Death Star goes boom is classic by now.
"What the hell is an aluminum falcon?!?"
Golden Sheldon?? I'm 💀
From now on I'll think of C3PO as that 😆
Just for that: @ 4:12 The General is wearing the Purina symbol. He's their rep on side 😁
So here's some fun trivia: 1. David Prowse played Darth Vader (James Earl Jones was the voice of Vader) and suffered from Polio as a child. So when I see Prowse walk in as a bad ass it always makes me smile thinking about what he overcame to have such a stride! 2. Rumor had it they added in the taun taun scene and Luke being injured by the wampa to cover up Mark Hamill's injuries from a car accident, but Lucas denied it. 3. Billy Dee Williams said he'd be happy to star in the movie, but only if he got to wear a cape.
