I just started playing this game for the first time after hearing about the update. These new consoles are a game changer in just load times alone. Got my SeriesX back in December and it’s just been a great experience with 60fps.

Dynamic resolution would've fixed the FPS dips on both consoles. I dunno why some devs dont use DRS! theres no downside to it A brief reduction in pixels, specially at higher resolutions, is way less noticeable and frustrating than dropped frames
DRS doesn’t always play nice with some forms of TAA so doesn’t get used. But in the future you can expect it to be integrated into pretty much every engine out there.
Great analysis. Only thing is in a performance analysis I saw the cutscene you showed with the ps5 dropping, in that video the ps5 didn't drop but the series x did.
yeah it was placed awkwardly. he said drops happen on console while the other stays solid and vice versa in cutscenes, but that the sx is more solid overall
@@xDethax My point which was conveyed horribly lol is that performance seemed a little better in that video, it's kind of like the frame drops where swapped between the two. My guess then is that the game is so close between the top two consoles that it's impossible to tell which is better, because neither one likely is.
it all depends on the game, specifically how well optimized on pc. . There is a Linus tech tips video showing a 1070 trading blows with a series x on Doom Eternal.

Speaking of tearing : AC Valhalla still suffers from it on both platforms in performance-mode . Warframe has screen-tearing on SX and PS5, too. Sometimes it reminds me of the PS3/360 era. There are so many other games that don't have screen-tearing and run just fine at 60fps. As the current gen moves on, I hope we can get rid of it forever.
Playing this game on Dualsense is an amazing experience. The haptics for rat horde is done really well. Adds that sense of fear and disgust. Whenever I feel those haptics I can't help my felling to run away from it.
It's a nice update although it's odd that they scaled back the grass draw distance like they did. Don't know if that's a technical issue or of that was intended.
I am confused now. Digital Foundry says the PS5 upscales 1440p with temporal reconstruction to 4K, but you mentioned no reconstruction was found. Which one is true?
There was a little missing detail missing, the ps5 and series version has much less vegetation in the cutscenes compared to the ps4/pro/xone/onex.. in many cutscenes, there is no vegetarion at all.. I hope they fix this in a patch..
As long as it does not dip below 30 fps (excluding fps shooters, you need 60fps) and get a smooth 4k picture im good. Ive played 1080p/60fps third person games that looked bad cus it shimmered too much.
It'll be a great barometer for now Gen when the sequel drops. I'm guessing that it will cater to the new machines instead of in this case brute forcing unoptimised code to run on them. Each generation gets better as it goes along. Look at the games at the beginning of the ps4 era compared to the end games like God of war 2018, Horizon Forbidden west or tlou2. This is going to be the same. Amd releasing FidelityFX Super Resolution 1.0 on consoles will be an awesome first step.
Are we sure, the console version is equivalent to the ultra version? Ultra @ native 4K drops my frames to low 50's and sometimes mid 40's in my rtx 3070 and ryzen 3600.
Consoles are using medium/high settings. Yup so it's mostly the same settings from last gen but better shadows/ambient occlusion. The next gen versions have less grass though, I'm guessing it's a bug. This isn't even close to ultra settings. This guy is so misleading. This guy should ask ign to hook him up with a 3060/11400f combo That 2070 and 2700x is a bad combo
Weirdest part of this game is it's very weird chromatic aberration. As it is stock it blurs the corners of the screen for some reason. Definitely turn it to low if you play this game
That kind of CA implementation is very common nowadays, where the effect strength is dependent on how far from the center a pixel is (Cyberpunk 2077 is like this as well, I think). There's also even CA implementation (older games such as Anthem or Crysis 3) which tends to be more subtle but at the expense of sharpness in the image center.
@@asdfjklo234 I just found it incredibly stange and untasteful as it blurs the image. Bloodborne had a form of CA I quite enjoyed, where it only occured at high contrast edges mostly on lights. As someone who wears glasses and has to look at real life CA every day, personally it's not something I like to see much of in games
@@darktempest53 I agree, that many effects are overdone and there are repeated demands for toggles so people can turn off all kinds of heavy post processing such as motion blur, film grain, or chromatic aberration. Do you play on PC (as I do)? Because then many of the effects are even more noticeable, and I suspect the fact that console players look at their TVs from several meters away, contributes to effects being overdone if that is the primary way these things are calibrated.
You keep saying your 2070 has a significant overclock... It's not significant, it's actually beyond average. I ran my old 2080 Ti at 85% power, yet it would run constantly at 1950MHz on games like Cyberpunk and Red Dead. The technology is called GPU Boost. You could get the cheapest 2070 Super (as in lowest binned) and GPU Boost would get it to near 2GHz providing the cooling/power was adequate. By no means is it close to 2070 Super out of the box. You would need to specifically limit the GPU so GPU Boost wouldn't be working on 2070 to outperformance 2070 Super.

Uncapped fps with VRR will soon be a standard for seriesx/s games to fully utilize its max potential. Sad to say ps5 is stuck to 60fps and will be outperformed constantly by the weaker series s.

Adaptive Sync in conjunction with a framrate over 60 is superior to any framerate below 60. If it wasnt Nvidia and AMD wouldn't have spent so much time and money making the tech in the first place.
Very good all round! I only wish I enjoyed the game itself more, PS5 version is free at the mo and it still lasted me about 40 minutes before I uninstalled it out of boredom lol
They might have pushed higher graphic settings knowing that there was no way jaguar could hit 60 fps. With CPU no longer being a bottle neck they most likely reached for greater performance which is an ideal tradeoff.
The image is clearer on series x compared to one x if your moving around the details are blurry on one x because of the 30fps option so it looks alot better on series x you just gonna stand still in the one x version and not play the game haha

I’m sure they are going to improve a lot of things. Asobo is the developer behind the new Ms flight simulator as well. The are top notch in terms of visuals.
This game is really great. The picture is somewhat soft on PS5. Looking forward to the sequel. I did notice tearing during the hog tutorial segment,but it didn't really show up later.

Its like funeral for play station fans. Even the weaker series s murdured the PS5 in terms of performance. Uncapped fps should be standard of console gaming to fully utilize its max potential.
What a dumb comment. Uncapped framerates aren't desirable due to judder, which is why they're typically capped. A locked 60 is far superior to a highly variable 120.

It's an ok game with stupid enemies, unrealistic combat and the combat is not good. The graphics look nice to be honest but everything else is average.

Smart delivery takes away that choice/option and makes it so you can only store any game that has series X version on an HDD, but you can't play it Also just for comparison sake. I got a series X shortly before the Metro Exodus enhanced edition came out and I wanted to compare the native 4k one X version to the 1440p ps4 pro version I was used to and because of smart delivery, I wasn't able to do so. It updated the one x version of the game into the series X version so I never got to see what it looked like at native 4k

His oc 2070 is somehow getting less fps than a standard 2070 a quick benchmark search on youtube reveals everything. I think overclocking is messing things for him.
It is 4K/60. Game renders natively at 1440 and then checkerboards/reconstructs to 4K. Most times you can't tell the difference when it's done well, which is why that technique is used.

Bro, its all about context, resolution is important depending on the context. Uncapped fps with VRR will soon be a standard for seriesx/s games to fully utilize its max potential. Sad to say ps5 is stuck to 60fps and will be outperformed constantly by the weaker series s.

You should compare Series X with One X. The graphics are actually better on One X except framerate and shadows quality.
They might have pushed higher graphic settings knowing that there was no way jaguar could hit 60 fps. With CPU no longer being a bottle neck they most likely reached for greater performance which is an ideal tradeoff.
The image is clearer on series x compared to one x if your moving around the details are blurry on one x because of the 30fps option so it looks alot better on series x you just gonna stand still in the one x version and not play the game haha

What a dumb comment. Uncapped framerates aren't desirable due to judder, which is why they're typically capped. A locked 60 is far superior to a highly variable 120.

It's an ok game with stupid enemies, unrealistic combat and the combat is not good. The graphics look nice to be honest but everything else is average.

Smart delivery takes away that choice/option and makes it so you can only store any game that has series X version on an HDD, but you can't play it
Also just for comparison sake. I got a series X shortly before the Metro Exodus enhanced edition came out and I wanted to compare the native 4k one X version to the 1440p ps4 pro version I was used to and because of smart delivery, I wasn't able to do so. It updated the one x version of the game into the series X version so I never got to see what it looked like at native 4k

It is 4K/60. Game renders natively at 1440 and then checkerboards/reconstructs to 4K. Most times you can't tell the difference when it's done well, which is why that technique is used.

I think that was more a reaction towards the industry touting resolution as a central indicator of image quality, for obvious marketing reasons.
If res doesn't matter then series s murdered ps5 on this game. Series s outperformed ps5 due to uncapped fps capability. Soon other dev will follow this path and series s will constanty obliterate PS5 in terms of performance.
