The visual detail in the knee joint blowing out is so immense, you can see girders snapping and gears flying onto the sand.
Say what you will - but you have credit to Rogue One that created actions scenes and set-pieces that integrated and complimented the general lore of star wars and physics, without breaking anything. If and when Gareth Edwards returns to Star Wars, I am sure that it will be on par with Rogue One.
Just another reason to like rogue one.
Only good Disney Star Wars movie
Rogue one is the best Star Wars film if you like the “wars” in “Star Wars.” Realistic, intricate action scenes, flawless attention to detail, seamless visuals, realistic stakes, long, panning shots. The empire can put up a fight and not just when it’s plot necessary. The new vehicles all look objectively good. The rebels have never looked more like rebels. Cutthroat designs, tons of species in the ranks, actual spite toward the empire. The location so this film are creative and varied, the film has a mix of drab and vibrant colors, combining both prequel and OT themes. The acting is great, both for main characters and extras like the stormtroopers. Speaking of which, this film introduced the largest amount of new imperial units that were all implemented in ways that made sense, and not just toy fodder. Death troopers are still the most popular imperial unit to ever hit the big screen. I can go all day about the little things in this film, but it is still the only real war film in the saga, and in that sense, it’s executed very well for a Disney product.
This is how you make a vehicle with complete background and plausible stories. NOT like xyston class SD which just sized up like burgers and mistake turbolasers into ion canons.
Slaps roof of Transport “This bad boy can carry so much Dewback meat!”

Heck no, I'm taking a crap ton of Gungan meet to the colicoids for some Bx series droids lol
Roll an IMPOSSIBLE Fear Check. Seeing a Sith Lord rising out of the lava coated wreckage of an AT-ACT. All you hear is the deep breathing and feel the heavy pressure of a very very very pissed off Darth Lord.
Go!
*fails fear check roll*
Terrifying
Yeah, it’s breech-filling time.
@Terix Septim What term of "Impossible" do you not understand? When you see something rise out of something that normally Lava melts into slag. Just heavy breathing and just the air around you. Pressing down like the whole universe is screaming in terror. No, amount of "Oh you are immune to the force" will save you. Just that deep drone of breathing and the steps of a cyborg man walking as the world around him is bursting into flames and crushing down. Each of his steps shakes the planet. Each inching closer. Each step to your doom. Each step to your death.
Yeah. That is Darth Vader being very very very pissed off.
**rolls**
"Ha! Nat 20!"
"You are not firghtened enough to completely freeze, but you are still frightened enough to run panicked."
I think OI-CT probably stands for “open interior cargo transport”
Logical
Or "Operations Intellectual Crane Transport."
Overhead Intermodal Crane Transport
Operational infrastructure cargo transport
It think it just looks creepy. It's like a headless, deformed AT-AT skeleton is walking around. It gives me the heebie-jeebies.
Does anyone else hear the story about Vader's castle on Mustafar and think about Swamp Castle from Monty Python?
Vader: They said it was daft to build a Castle on Mustafar, but I built it all the same, just to show'em... It sank into the Lava, so I built a second one... It sank into the lava, so I built a third one. It burnt down, fell over AND sank into the lava...
I JUST commented that... I KNEW I wasn't the only one who noticed xD
But the FOURTH time
Or Storms End from A Song of Ice and FIre
I'm just amused he mentions that Vader doesn't lose anyMORE limbs and I'm like, but he doesn't have anymore to lose 😂🤣😂 Ok ok Legit he does have his left arm still, but admit it, it's funny ...
And your father smells of elderberries.
Lol damnit. When you mentioned the weight capacity and volume of the storage pod, I paused the video and went to figure out how many shipping containers it equated to....took me like 5 minutes of googling to figure out
30 seconds after I unpaused it, I find out you already figured it out for us.
Well played sir. Well played.

The OI-CT looks like the ship cranes here in the Oakland Bay, which was what George Lucas based the AT-AT walkers on.
dragon1193 linktoad Where?
@dragon1193 linktoad they meant where in the solo film lmao
So the o in OI-CT stands for Oakland 🤔
The "Roba" M-45 is actually a blaster version of the M60 during the Vietnam War.
Just like many blasters from OT and PT are in fact WWII era guns (with some exceptions like Hans Mauser 96) with some kitbashes - E-11 is Sterling SMG with extra parts, DLT-19 (stormtrooper long rifle) is based on MG 34 while DC-15 (long clone rifle) is based on MG 42
So the Rogue One team could've carried one with them… especially if they had a strong alien in their ranks, would've been useful.
@@Jfk2Mr the DC-15 is also MG-34 based
If you look at the rebels on scarif their rifles are built from M4 rifles that the Army uses.
Anyone who runs is an Imp. Anyone who stands still is a well-disciplined Imp!
I like this walker and the scene of an x-wing blowing one in half was pretty cool too
Yeah Lucas had the most influence there from all the Disney Star Wars, and it shows
Well, it maybe bigger, not really meant for battle. Yet seeing at least two walking towards you and firing. Tou have nothing to stop it. Yeah. Terrifying.
Hilariously enough though, the scene where the rebels shoot a rocket at the AT-ACT's head? They might have actually been able to instantly destroy it if they'd shot the legs instead...
@@Mirvra Reason the U-Wing Ion Gunners fired on the legs more than the body of the AT-ACT. Was because the leg joints were the weakest part of the walker. All due to in universe science of force field technology.
The leg joints were bolstered by these force fields to carry the massive load of the walker and cargo. Yet these force fields also acted as a defensive measure. With that it is unlikely the rockets launched at the AT-ACT would have done anything to these leg joints. Though if they fired a high enough volume of Ion fire at these joints. Then, yes the rockets would have taken it out. Or just the weight alone of the walker would have doomed it.
@@Qardo you got to admit the AT-ACT shrugging off a direct hit the head with a rocket and then slowly stare back at you does scream the image of these walkers are horrifying to face.
I love the industrial side of Star Wars. It always make sense when the vehicles are gigantic lol great video

Rouge one is easily the best of the new star wars films and its the only one i really like
I love you but, yes
@@seveamin1 I don't agree with this. The characters aren't really good and are forgettable, the pacing in the first two acts is really messy, Saw dies because reasons, character development and decisions are questionable. The third act is very good but only because of the action. It's a decent movie but I think tfa is a better one.

Loved the Skyrim reference, especially considering that the walker’s knee joints are a major weak point. 😆👍
It makes me wonder how strong that mounted gun on the U wing was, I mean this bad boy can carry 5,000 metric tons and not collapse
50 metric tons...with a lot of indulgence.
edited* and not the U-wing but Zeta class.
Ion shots disrupt electronics, so if the effect of the shots can penetrate the armored knee and get to the tensor field it can cause the field in that leg to fail. Even if it was a temporary failure those legs could not handle the weight of the transport. The gun doesn’t need strength just the ion shots have to penetrate.
It disabled and broke the leg i don’t think it has anything to do with the weight of what the ACT can carry
@@SORRYBUTYOURENEXT it has everything to do with the weight, did you not watch the video or read the lore? it broke because ot disabled the tensor fields in the leg needed to hold up the weight. if it did not need to hold the weight it would have been fine.
@@matthiuskoenig3378 Exactly...it didn't explode from the shot, it shattered because it wasn't able to support the weight on it anymore.

different walkers, would not have helped.
its like saying, stuarts worked well against panzer IIs, so why not use them to fight Tiger IIs?
in the lore the only place rebel weapons can hurt the AT-AT is the top armor, which requires a steep (and thus very dangerous and easy to get targeted) angle of approach.

The AT AT from empire strike's back are an up armoured version of it, the earlier AT AT is the one that shows up in jedi fallen order

OI-CT: Operations & Industrial Construction Transport
Hey MetaNerdz, could you do a video on the Invincible Dreadnaught Cruiser? It would be cool to continue talking about Corporate Sector ships!
Tensor fields were also used on carbonite freeze pallets. Seen in Empire on Cloud City when they’re moving Han to Slave One.
I've always wondered why whenever ground forces see one they run away just look at it's range of fire it's all pretty much forward so RUN TOWARDS THE DAMN THING AND GET UNDERNEATH IT and you're safe
It's the AT-AT's neat big bro from, of all things, a Disney Star Wars film
I didn't realize that it was bigger than an AT-AT.
Scarif is definitely my favorite planet in the Star Wars Universe, or at least somewhere in the top 5 planets. To think that Disney provided me with my favorite Star Wars planet. I’m sure it’s not the only Disney Star Wars planet that I love. Multiple are bound to be in my top 15, heck even my top 10 could and probably do have more than the one Disney Star Wars planet. Also Scarif is just the best battle location. Don’t know why. It’s just so unique how a battle can be made so beautiful just by it’s surroundings
Wookiee’s working on Death Star, “Wookiee sees 3 at acts carrying cargo,” Wookiee growls “WHAT ARE WE FOR THEN!?!”
shrugs off a rocket to the face and looks pissed! Also the OI-CT were constructed on the planet of San Francisco a ocean planet by a imperial officer George Lucas and was the bases for Kuat's design ethos
Considering that it still needed _"fields"_ to stay upright and weren't just a purely mechanical system, a better option might have been a *repulsor lift vehicle.*
Those long legs, besides being a vulnerability to a ion blaster that's small enough to be carried by a Wookie (if Rogue One's troops had carried one as a crew serviced weapon or just had a strong alien…), are also a hazard around a construction sight, and can damage or tear up the surface. As well a misstep on weaker ground or a bit of subsidence and they topple over.
Besides it needs elaborate facilities to load and unload, so it's not useful for getting supplies to new sites or off the main zone.
As for the logistics of using an existing design, the fact that it was scaled up eliminates that, it would've used mostly new parts.
A better option would have been a _scaled down_ version of the cargo transport ship. Remove all spaceflight capabilities and long term crew areas, and have it just be a repulsor lift vehicle, and then add on some guns if required.
It would fullfil the roll of a heavy cargo lift helicopter, throw in a tractor beam array and it's a forklift as well.
And it doesn't need a dedicated loading and offloading facility.
Or just come up with a new design based around the cargo container, it mostly cruises a few feet off the ground, but can boost up higher to drop off cargo pods on tall structures. And logistically the design could be reused for construction equipment.
Maybe it’s designed the way it is is because since the cargo is so high up, destroying the legs would damage the cargo and possibly destroy it.
tensor field generators are probably significantly cheaper then repulsor lift, for the same weight lifting capability. the AT-ACT is 13 000 credits cheaper then an MTT, is 15km/h faster and is significantly bigger (meaning more material cost, yet is still significantly cheaper so the repulsor lift generators are obviously much more expensive). an MTT can also only carry 12 tons of cargo (plus 112 battle droids, another 7 tons) compared to the "many thousands of tons" of the AT-ACT (aleast 1000 tons, implied 2000+ tons)...
or lets look at light freighters for carrying capacity. a YT-1300 costs 25 000 less credits then an AT-ACT, but carries only a hundred tons of cargo (so at most 1/100 of the cargo of an AT-ACT for 5/6 of the cost, ie just for the vehicles you need to spend 80 times the credits for the minimum cargo of an AT-ACT plus you need 100 times the crew costs!)
what of a C-9979, it is twice the cost of an AT-ACT and carries 1800 tons, so it is twice the cost but carries a similar weight load and is significantly bigger. less efficient for heavy resources, probably better for lighter resources...
a Gozonti cruiser is about the same size as an AT-ACT, but only carries 75 tons and is thus much weaker (at best about 1/100 of the strength) but is 25 000 more credits...
also the walkers are shown to easily walk in mud, snow and beach sand, and not topple over, they even take explosions and shrug them off.there is no evidence they would tear up surfaces.
the solution is not to waste time on repulsor lift vehicles but rework the walker to have an internal crane/lowering system.
@@matthiuskoenig3378 The needed a jawa sandcrawler modified for bulk cargo hauling instead of mobile foundry work.
The shot of the rocket hitting the cockpit and turning it away, only to turn back was amazing and really have you the same fear as that poor bugger who shot it.
"These things prove that you can have great action scenes that are guided by the lore, not breaking it"
Yuppppppp. The Battle of Scarif is the best finale of all of the new Star Wars films released by Disney. It's not even close.
Personally, I *LOVE* how the OI-CT brings the story of that family of walkers full circle, in a way. The AT-ATs were originally inspired the cargo loading cranes at the port of Oakland California.
Are those droids that you didn’t have a visual for the same as the cargo droid from Kenobi?
Personally believe that they, or a Better variant, was deployed on Hoth, in the rear, to setup shop after passing the most treacherous of terrains & such…
Can you do the KX series security droids also seen in Rogue One.
There was a Kenner AT-AT prototype toy that was basically a walker with a giant cannon on its back.Like a walking Howitzer!

I kind of wonder if their Cargo Bay can switch to equip with some heavy Cannons, Like some Kind of Broadside Cannons, some door Guns on Transport ships or perhaps some side mount cannon Like WWI Tanks
I like how this is the only time Disney Star Wars got away with taking an old model and upscaling it.

Kind of small cargo area for that kind of tonnage, could fill it with a solid block of steel and still have weight capacity left.
Its one big slow moving target just looks cool.
How serendipitous that you would post a video about the AT-ACT now, Metanerdz. Maybe you can help me interpret this recurring dream I've been having for several weeks. You could say it's been haunting me. In this dream, or dare I say... vision, there is an AT-ACT packed to the rafters with pallets of wicker baskets overflowing with hand-picked cherries. Not maraschino cherries, but real ones. Good ones. The AT-ACT is walking, carrying this precious cargo to locales unbeknownst to me. That is the entirety of the dream.
What does this mean, Metanerdz? Bestow your wisdom upon me. Free me from these visions!
Loved the Skyrim reference at the end!
Very good
Hey MetaNerdz my ideal Star Wars type walker design will combine the best features of all 4-6 legged walkers of the Republic, Empire & First order in a happy medium size while trying to both minimize the flaws & maximize the usefulness.
If they had used an AT-TE design with its 6 legs it could have spread out the weight. This would help with buckling as if one was destroyed it could try to distribute the weight among the 5 legs left.

OI-CT stands for “obscenely incapable cargo transport”
Never understood why they would use a slow walking platform when they have ships and so on...
Same reason blimps and dirigibles were once considered for bulk cargo hauling as opposed to the smaller cargo jets we have today. And why we still use oceangoing cargo ships for same.
the cT from the OI-CT probably is Cargo Transport.
the spinning disks of the juggernaut look far more complex (and thus expensive, edit and less reliable) compared to AT-AT and AT-ACT legs. I imagine an easy in-universe explanation is that its cost (and larger turning circle due to haveing wheels) means that you could get multiple walkers per juggernaut.

Sacrificing a bit of armor and firepower for making it bigger. Just because something is big doesnt mean is unbeatable. Its size is also its major flaw. If that walker was based on a really big creature the animal's own size would've killed it via suffocation or bone breaking for size. The Empire should've kept using the AT TE WALKER. 1st. Hello. Lance clones are cool. There are 4 comments. Why cant I view them?
I actually didn't see any point of having these tall cargo walkers for a small island garrison
Thanks for the vid sir.
You’d think using these would be counter productive in transporting supplies. Slow and cumbersome, and I can’t imagine these being able to traverse adverse terrain. As much as I love them, ATATs don’t make a lot of sense to begin with. Why not just make hover tanks and use VTOLs for transporting goods?
Well done. Thank you!
The idea of a walker transport seems stupid. A larger repulsor lift like Jaba’s barge would make a lot more sense.
Same 'why walkers?' issue. Usual explanation is that legs get you past rocky, hugely uneven terrain, as opposed to repulsorlift crafts. (Luke's landspeeder couldn't possibly climb vertically. Also, air speeders seem to be restricted to small vehicles.)
BattleDroid224 I get for a war machine but this is a cargo transport. Jaba’s barge would be big enough to carry the cargo units and could negotiate rough terrain. Then you factor in the cargo handling gear that has to be in a bloody skyscraper vs a hover barge that could bring it to within a few meters of the ground. Cargo walkers make zero sense. I stand by that.
Maybe more for the roll of cargo escort. But then again the cargo is way up high so destroying the legs risks of damaging the cargo your after and not everyone has a jet pack. With speeders their at a level where you can at least grapple onto it and take it over.
repulsor lift vehicles (in the lore) tend to be significantly more expensive for significantly less weight carrying capacity.
the AT-ACT carries hundreds of times the cargo of vehicles costing the same or more that use repulsor tech. the only repulsor vehicle with a similar load costs twice the price of the AT-ACT and is much much bigger. just add a crane mechanism + squatting to solve the height issue.
I think a hovercraft would be a great hauler, more efficient the bigger it is, and fast. But really, if you just need to bring cargo from landing pads into hub, probably, some conveyor belt system would be better.
Can you do a video on the Dome from Star Wars Rebels?
but...if tensor field is used, will it fail the purpose of Walkers not being blocked by Ray shielding?
