Hey Sam, Mel here of the RUclips channel "Melissa's Legally Blind World" and I now just tried your trick of "right click, select 'large', and it just made my laptop icons alot bigger, which helps a thousand, I didn't know you could enlarge your computer's icons like this. Very helpful. Thank you so much Sam.
Hi Sam, thank you. You have just extenfef my computing life. I am an 84uo with macular degeneration. I have tried to adapt my screens to adapt but this video has put me on the right path. You are a YouTubing star!
You are such a doll! I have macular deg and since cataract surgery recently it has got much worse. I have been too scared to mess with the settings on my computer so have almost quit using it except for major hsve to things. Thanks to you there msy be some hope! Thank you so much and thank you for all your effort in helping others.
Sam, thanks for the reminders and the updated information. I have implemented a few and now I can see my cursor and pointer better. Love the control click thingy.
I also have Stargardt's and I don't like using too big of a screen because I find I still have to be close to see things in general and on bigger screens you end up seeing the pixel colours separate. Maybe that's just a problem if you have a lower resolution screen too. I also find that I loose the mouse more because it's more often in my blind spot. Just an observation!
I would like to add my thanks for sharing this video. I did not even know how much we could tweak windows, to make life so much easier when you have eyesight problems. It has made my life much easier as I was often looking to find out where the cursor was. Also, there were other things that I changed that has helped.
I have a 15 inch screen Dell laptop connected to a 32 inch Samsung Monitor/TV. I also have a wired Logitech keyboard and a gaming mouse so that way I don't have to use the keyboard and the mouse-pad/track-pad on the laptop. I use Rain meter widgets for large time & date at the top right of the desktop. I use Magnification, High Contrast/ Inverted Colors, and the Mouse Pointer is Large and is a Greenish/Yellow color. I don't really use Narrator that often. I have used NVDA and ZoomText before. I updated my computer from Windows 8 to Windows 10 just by watching RUclips & following simple steps from Microsoft Support. I am low vision so this set up works for me for now. In the future, if I need to use speech, I already have NVDA installed and know how to get to the speech settings and the keyboard commands to get through the NVDA menu.
Thanks Sam for this updated version. I just had Microsoft look at my laptop and noticed that I was running an older version of Windows 10 so he installed the newest version of Windows 10 and I was just like where do I go to do and what settings do I use. I mean they changed everything upgraded it. Which is fantastic! But I'm so thankful that you made this video true kind of guide us to where to go. Thanks again Sam. Please tell your family hi for me and say hi to Skyler also. Take care and bless you all . 8
Jacob just updated my laptop, as I’m a slacker, so I see I have much more options for low vision. Yay to Microsoft for hearing our suggestions and implementing them! 😄 BTW, the beard looks great Sam! 👍🏼
Hi Sam, I just found your channel and am hooked! On the Hadley tech podcast Tuesday they mentioned Way Around. I looked it up on You Tube and found your video. I enjoyed the video and looked at some of your other videos. As a blind computer user I appreciate any suggestions. Seeing some of the updated settings makes me willing to consider updating to Windows 10.
Hey Heidi, welcome to the channel! Glad you’re finding the videos helpful. I have a ton of other videos on computers and smart phones so feel free to look around!
Hello. Thank you so much for sharing tips and tricks for visually impaired people. What I have noticed that due to low vision I am leaning towards the monitor, which deforms the spine in all zones: neck, chest and lower back. I am strugling with back pain now and looking for the optimal posture, monitor position, chair type and setup. Do you have any ideas or tips at this topic?
Hi Sam thank you very much for your videos I think this will be a great help for me as we are finally after many years getting a new computer a Dell Inspiron I think that’s what it is and a 24 inch monitor HD and the accessibility and information you provide will be in definitely used I myself am legally blind and in recent years have been losing what sight I have in my right eye so this is a very welcomed RUclips channel thanks for all you do
Great video. How do you manage and setup your webcam when you are in meeting so, that you are not showing a closeup of your forehead, or up your nose, when using such a large screen?
i appreciate your work for the visually impaired community being that im in the future foundation for the blind here in San Diego ca im not computer smart dude im learning ' issue i have to much white an gray i need to add color but i don't want to really fup an unable to get it right ' so when your free could you help out with your format concerning calibration something very simple' thanks you for helping the visually impaired community Ray be blessed&safe.
Hi blind life I love your videos I just have a question which one do you think is easier for a visually impaired college student I live in the UK should I get a MacBook or a normal laptop I am almost fully blind I can’t see detail things
Juan isn’t going to be any easier than the other, you will still need to learn how to use either one. However, if you already have an iPhone or iPad, the Mac may be a little more familiar to you. Then again, you can get a PC for a lot less money.
I have a GoPro and one nice feature of the camera is that it has a lot of audio cues. It beeps when you turn it on and off, beeps when you start and stop recording, etc. Also, you can control it with your voice. You can say start recording, or something like that. You should check out Steve Fox and York the guy dog channel, he uses a GoPro and talks about how helpful they are.
I am not blind but I have vision issues. I'm looking for a new computer (prefer a laptop). I am assuming that not just any computer will allow me to customize (esp. the resolution) as your video suggests. Do you have any suggestions -- without going into thousands of dollars. Thanks.
Possibly. The curved monitor would be great for anyone with central vision loss. Curving the edges of the screen around will be great for someone who uses their peripheral vision. 32 inches is a good size as well.
I have trouble seeing the field boxes on sites that want you to fill in information. They always have a light grey or light green on a white background. then because you can't see all the required fields, you inevitably miss one, but when you press the button to submit your info, you get a reject message, "required fields are highlighted in RED..." But i can't see RED.. So i can't access even the lighthouse contact page to ask them questions. Not even Lighthouse is ADA compliant and it is impossible to get ahold of them to request that they not make it so complicated/impossible to contact them.. ie: ADA compliance for those with visual impairment or dyslexia. Autofill can't navigate fields that have a toggles (like the state toggle). and if you can't see the field, you can't get equal access to information. All i want is equal access to websites for visually impaired and even the web address for blind/visually impaired doesn't have an ADA compliant website. yours truly, frustrated.
Since you are a Windows user I was wondering what do use to edit your videos. And keep up the great work on your videos :-) I’m also a fellow blind a RUclipsr
Oh it is sure is not the only way to set it up, first thing I noticed is that the words below the icons are not in a bigger font. I will say he s on the near blind side where they get to hear a screen reader yammer on telling you shit you don't want it to.
Press Windows Key and the + key, this starts Windows Magnifier, in there you can change it's settings and experiment to find what works for you, for example try "whole screen". Keep pressing Windows Key and + to zoom in more or Windows Key and - to zoom out. Works inside games too :)
Hi sam cool to see how it works hook on your laptop computer to put your tv right to see it bigger it cool sam I will try it myself sam I have usher syndrome myself too and have disabitiy balnace sam just wonder how it works sam I am rosalind feit fr nova scotia Canada
you look so very much better and more handsome without that long beard... i hope you will explain how you get the watch from the last video to be so big on the background, i cant find anything about it in the menus
Thanks!

@@theblindlife you're awesome Sam. thanks for the accessibility advice.
Thanks for the tutorial, Derek
Learning the shortcuts for things like magnifier and high contrast are good for when using someone else's machine.
Thank you so much! It would be great to see the same video for MacOS.
Hi Sam, thank you. You have just extenfef my computing life. I am an 84uo with macular degeneration. I have tried to adapt my screens to adapt but this video has put me on the right path. You are a YouTubing star!

Your original video on setting up a Windows workstation was very helpful, but I like the new feature for locating your mouse. Thanks for the update!
New stuff around the pointer I hadn't known about. Thanks.

That’s great, sounds like you’ve got it all set up nicely! Are used a laptop with a keyboard mouse and monitor for several years. Worked well.
Thanks Sam, very helpful video!!👍🏼
Thanks man this helps me greatly
That’s great!
Sam, very helpful video. A learned about .

My pleasure Stephen! You were actually the inspiration for making this video. :-)

is there a video on setting up an Apple Imac? pc doesn't translate well.
Hi there, do you have anything on setting up a Mac too?
No, unfortunately not. I’m not a Mac user so don’t have access to one.
What type of monitor do you recommend for a blind gamer using a ps4? Does it matter what kind I buy?
i appreciate your work for the visually impaired community being that im in the future foundation for the blind here in San Diego ca im not computer smart dude im learning ' issue i have to much white an gray i need to add color but i don't want to really fup an unable to get it right ' so when your free could you help out with your format concerning calibration something very simple' thanks you for helping the visually impaired community Ray be blessed&safe.
Do you use a screen magnifier? In the video it seemed to be zooming and and out very efficiently but I realized that may be just the video editing?
Yes, I use the built-in windows magnifier. All the zooming in in the video was done with the Magnifier, no editing.
oh cool, what shortcuts do you use to zoom? I have been using windows + but it is not as smooth or as quick as it looked in the video
CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME REGARDING A COMUTER SCREEN....DO I BUY ONE WITH A BLUE LIGHT OR A SCREEN WITH DIFFERENT PIXELS?

I'm not sure why, but I don't have the Text cursor color change option. I have Windows 10 Home Addition.
Hi I really need a go pro video camera so could you please look at this product to see if it could be used by a person with no vision at all please???
I have a GoPro and one nice feature of the camera is that it has a lot of audio cues. I'm looking into getting a 32inch curved monitor for work are these ideal for visually impaired??
Possibly. The curved monitor would be great for anyone with central vision loss. Curving the edges of the screen around will be great for someone who uses their peripheral vision. 32 inches is a good size as well.

Awesome! I use da Vinci resolve to edit the videos.
The Blind Life Oh that’s pretty cool I’ve heard a lot of people talk about that video editor
How do I get the big clock on my pc ? Can you share the video link please
I did, check the description of the video.

Does its working on windows 7
How u zoom the monitor?
Press Windows Key and the + key, this starts Windows Magnifier, in there you can change it's settings and experiment to find what works for you, for example try "whole screen". Keep pressing Windows Key and + to zoom in more or Windows Key and - to zoom out. Works inside games too :)
Do you drive, if so what do you use to help you?
Nope, never been able to get my license. I’ve driven many times though, LOL!
