As an italian, I have a little tip for you to prevent the basil to oxide and to keep the pesto of a bright green: add one or two ice cubes while blending it! We always use this quick method instead of blanching it, guaranteed results 🤞🏼♥️
Aww thank you Taylor! I have been trying my best :) I am moving to California in 2 weeks so tried to get out as many as I could before moving takes over my life lol.
Haha! Nisha, you are so adorable. I love your cooking style and make your Instant Pot Chana Masala regularly. I went Vegan about 9 months ago and your Chanel has been a lifesaver for me. I have never felt better in my life after losing 50 lbs over the past 13 months. Thank you for all you do!
Hi there! Wow, that's amazing and I am so happy you are feeling better than you have ever felt before. That's the best result you can ask for :) So happy you enjoy my chana masala recipe and that my videos have been helpful for you on your vegan journey.
Excellent video! We are both in our 80's and are all about healthy aging. Getting older does have to mean getting sicker. We still strive for a strong body, calm mind, & positive outlook. The content you present is very helpful.
Pesto is my favorite sauce, and easily the most versatile (imo) out there! I haven't made classic pesto in such a long time (experimenting gets in the way😂), but I was lucky enough to spend some time with my mom last night and made one together to put over some fava beans and sweet potato pasta. I always love seeing other pesto variations , these look amazing!!😋
Thanks Vincent! We've been buying fresh basil every week at the farmers market this summer so we've made so much classic pesto, but I agree - experimenting is so fun! And glad you go to make some with your mom, how fun :)
@RainbowPlantLife It was a lot of fun I must say!😂😋 Do you visit the Grand Army Plaza Farmers' Market? When we were living in Park Slope, we would go there every week! I miss going so frequently!😂
OMG I did not know that basil was hydroponic. That is superb because I kept killing my basil. Would love to see a video on home grown herbs if you've any tips/tricks!
I just love your voice and the way you speak.. Your recipes are most creative, healthy, tasty and colorful on RUclips 😍 I want to go grocery shopping now and make all 3 pestos.. thank you so much 💯
Oh yes, pesto pasta is just THE BEST. And honestly, homemade one is just next level! You can customize it, you know what's in there and it is just so much tastier and fresher!
So I was loathe to add nutritional yeast to $5 of basil, $3 of pine nuts and some very nice extra virgin olive oil... but I have great faith in Nisha and... it was so GOOD! I add it every time now. Really wonderful nutty richness without parm. Thank you Nisha.
I add carrot tops to pesto or palak paneer (tofu) all the time! Another great way to use it is to juice it with lemon and ginger and serve over ice with agave. It makes a delicious summer drink. Love this video!
Wow, if I had a basil plant like that I could have pesto all the time! As it turns out, I have been literally craving pesto, which is a good summer flavor. Thanks again Nisha!
I wish I could get this much basil yearround, but just during the summer from the farmers market. I love using other herbs like cilantro or parsley for pesto when basil is not in season!
How do you not have a million subs yet? you have a wonderful personality with excellent recipes with substitutes and also so informative! Thanks so much, defo will have 1 mill soon :) love from Ireland x
What a fabulous idea to view the pesto as a technique rather than a particular sauce! I love the ideas you've suggested and I must say, I already want to experiment even more with my pestos!
Love this!! I tried carrot top pesto once and 🤢🤢. I didnt blanch the tops (didn't realize that I needed too). I would be willing to try this recipe tho! All of these pestos look so good! Can't wait to try them! 😄
Okayyy my mind is blown!! Using pesto as a template for other recipes?? How many other things can be done like this? You are a culinary goddess I’m so impressed 😱
I just made pesto from the basil leaves I grow on my balcony and i followed you guidelines and it was sooooooo good!! I put parmesan instead of nutritional yeast because I’m not vegan but it was spectacular!!! So much better than any pesto sauce I ever bought! Thank you for this! 🌸🥰
I really like pesto but am not the biggest fan of the basil type, so this video is perfect inspiration! Definitely will try the thai one, it sounds so yummy
I bought your cookbook and made the frijoles. They were delicious; however, I questioned why I made these when it's 96 degrees here in Columbus, Ohio :-) These pesto dishes look fabulous and more appropriate for my summer weather. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to your videos every week.
This looks so good. My basil plant is slowly but surely growing and I can’t wait to make pesto when it’s ready! Pine nuts sound delish but you’re right they can be super expensive.
Thanks Gaby! So nice you're growing a basil plant! And yes, pine nuts are so buttery good but pricy, so most of the time I use walnuts, pistachios, or cashews!
Umm, it looks super delicious. I myself keep the basic things in mind as you said greens, nuts, oil, garlic, and some kind of cheesey flavor and try to experiment with it. That cilantro one I have to try though. Thank you for sharing this!🧡
If you add a bit of water when you fine-blend the pine nuts with the lemon and salt they will fluff up and you won't get that runny texture to your pesto. The oil will then blend into the emulsion making a rich thick paste.
Love your videos, you make me smile and brighten my day. Just about to order some pine nuts but was alerted to the possibility of ‘pine mouth’ . Do you know anything about it? Might just try the peanut or carrot top pestos.
Thank you Elaine! That's so nice to hear that :) I've never experienced pine mouth - it sounds like it affects only a small number of people. But, you could also make the classic version with walnuts or pistachios, I do that all the time.
Oops sorry just saw this now my gmail dont show the videos Yum looks delicious i am making this soon i will be putting this on pizza and pasta drooling over my samsung galaxy note 8 love your recipes making me hungry Thanks Ramya
Hi Nisha. Did you propagate all that basil yourself? The roots look so long? I've tried several times but can never get the stems to grow roots in water and they just end up withering and dying. Any tips? Thanks!
Honestly, carrot top pesto is one of my faves. However, I have never thought of using pistachios in it! I will have to give it a try as the flavours seem fantastic, and I have a lot of carrots growing in the garden :D . Anyways, sending you lots of love! Stay safe and have a fantastic rest of the week! . P.S. Thank you for the bloopers! They made my day ;D
Nisha Be on the lookout for a pic of your peach cobbler recipe sent to you on Instagram, we made it last night. Very much enjoyed. Even got the very-vanilla so-delicious ice cream for perfection. Almond extract was also utilized for full rainbowplantlife form. Tha k you for your recipes.
I wish I was growing it haha. I just bought it from the farmers market and it has the roots attached, which helps it stay fresh and grow beautifully for up to 2 weeks!
I was just gonna ask you for tips on how to care/keep herbs in the kitchen. Even the cilantro plant looks beautiful! Can you also make videos about your olive oil/condiments/spices?
THIS IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! Thank youu. I am still on my vegan trial period and was desperate to find something to replace my bechamel sauce with 😂 Also, the quality of your vids is INSANEE ❤

Hi friends! Stick around for some outtakes at the end, including my most unexpected talent 😂😭
didn't see that coming lol!

LOL!
Nice out!
Both my daughters share that talent with you!! 🤣 Bwahaha

Ahh so cool! I had never heard of that and have never seen anyone do it. I will definitely try it out soon (I am making pesto again tomorrow hehe).
This is genius - thanks for sharing!
Sounds like a great idea! Thanks for the tip!
RainbowPlantLife did it work?
does it water down the pesto much (I’d like to try it out!)?
If you are using walnuts instead of pine nuts.. add a pinch of ground rosemary or fresh rosemary to add the pineness back into the pesto :)
Ooh I like that idea! Fresh rosemary is one of my favorite ingredients!
Genius!
That's a good tip! I will have to try that!
thank you so much!
Every week is another video better than the last!! LOVE Saturday’s because of your uploads! So consistent.
Aww thank you Taylor! I have been trying my best :) I am moving to California in 2 weeks so tried to get out as many as I could before moving takes over my life lol.
I made the Thai Pesto for lunch today - I’m going to eat it every day for the rest of my life! 😋😂 New favorite!!!
Haha yay! I'm so happy you loved it so much. Thanks for sharing Lori!
😄
That basil plant is gorgeous! will we ever get a peek at all your fresh herbs and any tips and tricks for growing them?
Thai pesto = BRILLIANT! Culinary life at this home will never ever be the same and we thank RainbowPlantLife for that gift!!!!!
Awww I am so flattered! So happy you love it and thanks for sharing :)

The 2nd one is exactly like the green coriander chutney we make here in India except the soya/tamari. Loved the carrot pistachio one, quite different.
Yes! My mom makes cilantro mint chutney similarly, but uses coconut instead of nuts! I love it.
The quality of your content always impresses me!
Aww thanks Victoria! I appreciate that!
I always substitute pine nuts for sunflower seeds :) it‘s a lot cheaper and tastest just as good (its amazing to toast them first)
Hi thank u for the tips! I was looking for an alternative for the walnut and then i saw ur comment 😁 mind sharing thehr amount of sunflower seeds?
I have alot of this. Thank you
I did hemp seeds and it was still delicious 😋
thanks for tip

I made the basil pesto and thai pesto today. They both turned out absolutely delicious. Thank you from India 🇮🇳
So I was loathe to add nutritional yeast to $5 of basil, $3 of pine nuts and some very nice extra virgin olive oil... but I have great faith in Nisha and... it was so GOOD! I add it every time now. Really wonderful nutty richness without parm. Thank you Nisha.
Hallo from Austria! I loved your idea of using the carrot tops for the pesto! Im going to try it this week. Sending you much love 🤗
Hi Katerina, thank you! It's such a great use for the carrot tops instead of throwing them away. Hope you'll try it :)
I've never ventured beyond basil pesto, but now I have all the inspiration I need. Thank you!
Yeah! They're so many ways to customize it :) Enjoy!
Yum! So happy whenever you post! Those carrot 🥕 tops, never used them!
Aww thanks Nesha! I'm so happy you enjoy my videos. And yes, such a good use for carrot tops instead of throwing them away :)
I add carrot tops to pesto or palak paneer (tofu) all the time! Another great way to use it is to juice it with lemon and ginger and serve over ice with agave. It makes a delicious summer drink. Love this video!
Ooh i will have to try that with my palak tofu recipe next time! And had no idea you could add it to a beverage. Thanks for the tips!

I add lemon zest to my basil pesto as well and it is game - changing!
I just tried the carrot top pesto. I was a little reluctant first but bo, it came out absolutely delicious! Thanks!
I'm not a fan of pesto but I never thought of it as a process to develop new tastes from. Thanks for sharing...and you are good at speaking😁
Thank you David! You should try out some of the other options if you don't love classic pesto :)
Thank you so much 🙏. I simply LOVE your recipes.
What a fabulous idea to view the pesto as a technique rather than a particular sauce! I love the ideas you've suggested and I must say, I already want to experiment even more with my pestos!

Yeah, they're quite tough so blanching is key! I hope you enjoy the pesto recipes :)
I love all the descriptive words you use, keeps it fun and zingy! 😄🍋 and thanks for the basil blanching tip I'm gonna try that next time I make pesto.
You are so welcome! I'm glad you enjoy the descriptions too!
The Thai pesto looks interestingly amazing. Will have to try this. 👍 🌱
Yes! It's so flavorful and fun!
Okayyy my mind is blown!! Using pesto as a template for other recipes?? How many other things can be done like this? You are a culinary goddess I’m so impressed 😱
I never would have thought to make pesto out of carrot tops. Looking forward to trying this
LOVE the carrot pistachio pesto, definitely going to make it! Don't have a compost or a bunny (hehe) so this is great!
Hehe I wish i had a bunny! That would make me so happy!
I’ve been craving Thai food so much lately and can just have spoonfuls of the carrot top pesto 🤤
Thai food is my favorite! I love the Thai flavors in this pesto :)
Wow, thanks for showing the carrot-top recipe! I like using stuff that else will be thrown into the bin.
I really like pesto but am not the biggest fan of the basil type, so this video is perfect inspiration! Definitely will try the thai one, it sounds so yummy

Amazing pesto sauce!! Substituted pine nuts for almonds.
Wow everything looks delicious 😋
Thank you so much :)
I love this recipe. How long can you freeze the pesto in the freezer. 😊
These are some GREAT ideas, thank you so much for sharing ❤️
Can’t wait to try this!
You are so funny Nisha! 🤣 ...love these pesto sauces!! Thank you ♥️🌱♥️

Hi Nisha. Did you propagate all that basil yourself? The roots look so long? I've tried several times but can never get the stems to grow roots in water and they just end up withering and dying. Any tips? Thanks!
That huge plant of basil is amazing! Where did you get that?
It's amazing right! The farmers market here in Brooklyn!
Was the basil plant in water or dirt when you got it? I've never seen that before. Great video!
Thanks Ken! I got it at the farmers market and they just leave it in a big bucket of water.
Honestly, carrot top pesto is one of my faves. However, I have never thought of using pistachios in it! I will have to give it a try as the flavours seem fantastic, and I have a lot of carrots growing in the garden :D
.
Anyways, sending you lots of love!

Ooh I can't wait to check it out. So happy that you enjoyed the peach cobbler! Thanks for sharing, Stephen!
Thanks! It looks yum!
I made my pasta with toasted pine nuts, Peoria’s sunflower seeds. Instead of olive oil used avocado oil.
Was so good…..
Am I the only not vegan that watches her videos? Am I the only one totally in love with her?
Please share how you are growing that beautiful basil plant.🌿
I wish I was growing it haha. I just bought it from the farmers market and it has the roots attached, which helps it stay fresh and grow beautifully for up to 2 weeks!
I was just gonna ask you for tips on how to care/keep herbs in the kitchen. Even the cilantro plant looks beautiful! Can you also make videos about your olive oil/condiments/spices?
How do you grow your basil like that!? So beautiful
I love vegan pesto! I feel it feels a lot lighter and I don’t feel gross after. BTW THAT BASIL IS HUGE.
Totally agree! And yes lol, there's one farm at the farmers market that sells this huge bunch and it's my favorite summer thing to buy!
RainbowPlantLife so jealous
THIS IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! Thank youu. I am still on my vegan trial period and was desperate to find something to replace my bechamel sauce with 😂 Also, the quality of your vids is INSANEE ❤

Love it! 😋
Pesto just means "pounded sauce," which is why the version we all know and love is technically called pesto alla genovese.
well it's not pesto because it's being chopped with food processor. it's "vegan pesto"
If you don’t have basil can you use spinach instead and use some basil seasoning to help add that basil flavor?
Nice. ....
keep posting dear
Thank you!
Your GOOD!! 👍🙏🏼
Aw Wow so Blessfull Thanks🥰😛😍🤪😇
Have you ever tried using a bean, say white, instead of the nuts in this type of thing? I'd like to do that.
