Lol I'm glad I saw this comment cause I was in the same predicament, then I realized this set doesn't need commentary for how beautiful it was, so I popped the right one out :)
@hussein335 we'll do our best to get a mixer so we don't have to plug the mics into the right side of the pinnacle. On a high note, You can now watch the match with or with out commentary by unplugging one of your speakers
@privysaur Damage is damage, regardless of if a combo comes from it. You can put him in a bad position (Either in the air or off stage) and hit him from a read from that, but Armada basically sits in his shield forever. PP probably could've literally laser grabbed him nearly every approach.
Thank you so much for uploading this set and the rest of the videos, I'm sure that there will be many of us who appreciate it! That was definitely one of the most exciting GF I've seen in Smash history. PP played like a champion. Good **** to both of them!
I want to point out something else people may not always comment on: How far the production has come for Melee tournaments over 10 years since this dropped is INSANE. I try to imagine what it would be like to see the players and the crowd but many classic, powerful Melee events will only truly be remembered by the people who were there because they happened to be early.
This has been one of the most amazing GF sets I've ever watched. Just sittin' and watchin' these matches, I can't help but grin in utter approval. The only thing that made this the best thing ever? Pokemon Theme Song.
@Andrew Balchin, PPMD came from Losers bracket and Armada came from Winners. If the player from losers wins first set, it resets and becomes set 2. Winner of set 2 wins in grand finals.
Partly in your defense, this is the one time I have ever seen PP play a higher level Falco than Mango's. This was a completely different PP than what I've seen in past tournaments. He was focused and on his game the ENTIRE time. I have seen Mango pull combo stunts like this on Armada for a couple rounds but never throughout the duration of an ENTIRE reset and final match. He was on point this time man...
I'll be honest. When the crowd started singing the original Pokemon theme, I cried a little bit. For so many reasons. This was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen... *sniffle*
"Stack it up" as in...stack up the money? Also, people really need to fucking grab Armada more. He STAYS IN HIS SHIELD FOREVER!!! Stop doing shield pressure and fucking graaab hiimmmm. It bothers me to see all that shielding and like...so little grabs.
Dude I'm way more happy to have met a bunch of people that still play melee and do it on a weekly basis before going to get food. Competitive melee, so much fun. And entertaining, I can basically enjoy it as a spectator sport. But hey, enjoy whatever you like. The game was made to be played any way you want, I'm glad I got into the tournament scene. Thanks for putting it down and giving us all a laugh.
OMFG the commentary hype! so awesome, didn't really hear the commentary on the stream but still so much hype, good shit from both players, fucking intense 15 minutes after the match because the stream cut off before the last stock so we didn't know who won for a while lol
so hype im playing melee again.. serious like writing my drivers license tommorow and driving 2 toronto 2 smash. Props out 2 both of you for giving it everything.
@VideoGameBootCamp yeah, I haven't found any recording program that lets you commentate and record at the same time, so I can understand why you do that so you don't have to manually sync commentary for every set.
@ShortMindedTV It's a lot easier to understand if you were there because it was live and the hype created so much pressure. The entire room was literally holding their breath when PP's shield first came up, and then the fear of what would happen next just overcame everyone so we all screamed. I guess you could compare it to a quick draw in the Wild West or something. lol So much tension with both opponents back to back, and the first one to move could either live or die in the blink of an eye.
One of the best matchups I've seen. The hype was incredible. The players were inredible. This match had me at the edge of my seat and rooting for Falco pretty much the whole time. Pokemon theme song has got to be the cherry on top.
Yes, you can crouch cancel every move to the best of my knowledge. The only exceptions I can think of are grabs (which includes moves like Bowser's side-B, Yoshi's neutral-B, and Kirby's neutral-B).
@rubix0110 DrPeePee and Armada were standing next to each other shielding for a very long time (1 second), enough time for either one of them to grab the other. The tension increased for that moment, then was released once they jumped away.
Oh my gosh I was literally trembling when I was watching these sets. So intense. Every big Melee tournament is better than the last these days. Thanks to both players for two of the best sets ever, thanks to Wife/Prog/D1 for commentary (especially D1 for shouting "THE PRESHA" off-mic lol), thanks to the crowd for adding to the excitement, and thank God for Melee. Seriously amazing. I love everything about this game.
@VideoGameBootCamp try behringer xenyx 502. It's pretty inexpensive. When there is nobody commentating, just turn up the composite input and turn off the mic. When commentating just turn down composite input. Great solution, it's what I am now using.
@likemy D1 is actually a very good commentator, you've probably heard him in other matches of other tourneys and you'll probably hear him in more in the future. He does quality work my friend.
everytime when the 2 players shield at the same time is a hype moment because sometimes some go with a OoS attack or just stay and roll, like pp and armada did in that moment
@SamIsATotalBeast I first heard it from Reneblade in the Dr. PP falco Discussion thread on smashboards. PP confirmed it, that he and mango agreed to do a $50 money match (jiggz vs falco) box tag out and all at Genesis 2. Most likely will be done at the hotel, on either Thursday/Friday night. Hopefully it will be recorded.
Mrs. Person: "Ah isn't nature just great honey? The trees, the creeks...honey what are you looking at?" Mr. Person: "BEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!"
@likemy It was me D1, I'm sry but its too difficult to contain yourself when you're watching Dr. PP make a 2 Set comeback during the Grand Finals. Its sooo hard to not go nuts, I willingly gave Prog the mic cuz I felt like PP was making me go nuts so I let him handle the rest of teh commentary. No need to disrespect
@Artictoc Johns. Crowd pressure is a legitimate factor in tournament play, and it's not like this was Armada's first American national. Mango defied the crowd and took first at Revival of Melee, so we know it's possible. Also, Armada said crowd pressure doesn't really affect him in an interview at Apex 2010. Even without that statement, though, it's not like any of the crowd pressure johns for Armada really add up at the end of the day...
@ATVSmash Yeah dude I know, but I meant there was so much hype and tension in person, but watching on youtube and seeing that the video is not even halfway done, we kinda knew it wasn't going to be his last stock ya know? x)
@braxinIV I'm not sure but I react the same way every time i watch this. I'll give you a pretty good guess though. PP is generally known for his immensely diverse, technical, and varied gameplay as well as mindgaming with opponents well. By pulling up his shield and poking it in Armada's face, he's pretty much saying "I can do it too, but mine's bigger", essentially reminding Armada he can sit him out.
This is untrue. Yes PP played better at this tournament than he did any tournament before, but remember a few months before this tourney when PP went to Cali, while he did win, Mango was still in his sandbagging phase and 3-stocked him twice with FALCON (I think?) twice in WFs then somehow lost 3 in a row, then lost GFs 3-1 as well, but this was Mango's sandbagging phase. Had Mango tried at Pound 5, no questions he would've won, he was still better than anyone else at this time, WAY better.
@hussein335 if someone hits the ground and doesn't tech, you can jab then and they're forced to stand up. That's referred to as a "jab reset", "reset" for short
Well if you look at it closely, Armada lost over half his shield in that stand still, which is actually dangerous, higher risk of getting shield stabbed if he doesn't let it heal. this and PeePee pretty much completely covered Armada's shield, which i found kinda funny.
might I add Europe has had their own timlne of melee greats...not many people know this but remen was the first melee champion in Europe, then EK, then Amsah (Nihonjin), and finally the Swedish Beast we all have come to know and love, Armada =]
Also guys, a neat little trick: if you're using headphones and hate the separated sound, pull your headphone connector out of the jack just a little. If you get it in the right place, everything will come through in mono. If you're only getting one part, you went too far.
16:12 "It's true falco does win a lot of tournaments"
I miss those times :(
13:29 when you go camping with D1
yo hahaha
This made me spit out my drink
i hate how hard i laughed at that
Amazing
Most I’ve ever laughed at youtube comment
12:01 kills me every time LOL. It's so funny to see how far the production quality has come since.
LOOOL
LOL i just watched the entire thing with 1 earbud in, didnt even realize there was commentary in the other
lmao same
Dingodin scum god damn... same
You didn't miss much
Lol I'm glad I saw this comment cause I was in the same predicament, then I realized this set doesn't need commentary for how beautiful it was, so I popped the right one out :)
"whatever the fuck a pivot is"
God I miss non-esports commentary.
Game left , commentary right
Elie4Elite DUDE I SEE YOU IN EVERY COMMENT SECTION OF EVERY SMASH VIDEO
ERMAHGERD MERSHEDPERDERDERS I POST FOR A LIVING
One of, if not the THE, best sets of all time
The sets between these two are truly godly
And the crowd was on another level
@hussein335 we'll do our best to get a mixer so we don't have to plug the mics into the right side of the pinnacle. On a high note, You can now watch the match with or with out commentary by unplugging one of your speakers
35:40 god, that whole little sequence of them moving around each other before the forward smash comes out is so fucking tense
Incredible sets
just...wow. History right here.
Amazing games Armada. Our rematch will be beast.
@privysaur
Damage is damage, regardless of if a combo comes from it. You can put him in a bad position (Either in the air or off stage) and hit him from a read from that, but Armada basically sits in his shield forever. PP probably could've literally laser grabbed him nearly every approach.
Esam?
lmao
@@jackownsyou44 😭
hey esam
woah chill esam
The best part is when it resets and falco is like ''Mission Complete!''. It's like PP IS falco
rewatching for the first time in while, and man PP played OUT OF HIS FUCKING MIND omg
Thank you so much for uploading this set and the rest of the videos, I'm sure that there will be many of us who appreciate it!
That was definitely one of the most exciting GF I've seen in Smash history. PP played like a champion. Good **** to both of them!
d1's commentary is mostly ooo mm! *inhale* woo
I want to point out something else people may not always comment on: How far the production has come for Melee tournaments over 10 years since this dropped is INSANE. Wheres's Darkfall and serge???
This has been one of the most amazing GF sets I've ever watched. Just sittin' and watchin' these matches, I can't help but grin in utter approval. The only thing that made this the best thing ever? Pokemon Theme Song.
10:33 remains the scariest pressure I've ever seen
29:35
“Who can be everything when everything counts?” -Prog 2011
@Andrew Balchin, PPMD came from Losers bracket and Armada came from Winners. If the player from losers wins first set, it resets and becomes set 2. Winner of set 2 wins in grand finals.
11:28 Wayyyy too freaking tense, incredible haha
Will Ernst thanks for pointing that out, that moment was definitely one of the hypest moments ever
Evo 2013 ppmd got mad revenge for that yoshi's story fight lol
Partly in your defense, this is the one time I have ever seen PP play a higher level Falco than Mango's. This was a completely different PP than what I've seen in past tournaments. Hi old Esam
metagame viewers we here
D1 and wife what an amazing commentary team
The matches get progressively better and better.
Dude I'm way more happy to have met a bunch of people that still play melee and do it on a weekly basis before going to get food. Competitive melee, so much fun. And entertaining, I can basically enjoy it as a spectator sport. But hey, enjoy whatever you like. The game was made to be played any way you want, I'm glad I got into the tournament scene. matches + commentary = smile on my face
This game is beautiful.
OMFG the commentary hype! so awesome, didn't really hear the commentary on the stream but still so much hype, good shit from both players, fucking intense 15 minutes after the match because the stream cut off before the last stock so we didn't know who won for a while lol
I love when the crowd starts singing the Pokemon theme song during that last game
For anyone wondering how to fix the volume, turn the right speaker up and the left one down. This applies for ALL matches from pound 5.
brinstar in 2011?!?!?! DAYUM i thought that was ages ago... throw back to before melee was an esport LOL.
so hype im playing melee again.. serious like writing my drivers license tommorow and driving 2 toronto 2 smash. Props out 2 both of you for giving it everything.
Awesome job Plank, VGBC, & everyone.
19:15 - 19:32 beast PP combo
19:46 - 19:57 beast Armada combo
23:38 - 23:52 beast PP combo
In the short documentary "The Story of Armada: The Swedish Sniper", Armada said Pound V was his toughest loss of all time, even worse than 2016 EVO.
11:26 made me laugh so hard
armada's rolls create more hype than anything else in melee.
This is truly a battle of legends.
@VideoGameBootCamp yeah, I haven't found any recording program that lets you commentate and record at the same time, so I can understand why you do that so you don't have to manually sync commentary for every set.
Love the commentators, not telling random shit, only talking about the games. You guys are good.
"Armada, lookin like the dog just died."
Wife, that made me sad
Back aerial. It's his back kick.
@nifanatic LMAO that was me I went BALLISTIIIIC WHEN I WAS WATCHING+COMMENTATING OMFG PEEPEE MADE ME BUST A NUT!
OMG the last game is so amazing! PPMD playing out of his mind!
Thus began the the reign of the 5 GODs!
"whatever the FUCK a pivot is!"
I LOVE WIFE LOLOL

Was mango already rocking Falco at this point? Seeing a very similar style here w/ full hops, double laser on edge, tc.
One of the best the best Melee sets I've ever seen. Wish I could have made it in person...
Kind of hoping for a version with what could be heard on the stream. I want to re-live that Pokémon theme song sing-along.
17:12 still is one of the biggest goosebumps moments
One of the best matchups I've seen. The hype was incredible. The players were inredible. This match had me at the edge of my seat and rooting for Falco pretty much the whole time. Pokemon theme song has got to be the cherry on top.
Awesome matches and very funny bits of commentary. And that's what I like about Melee - the commentators are really dedicated to it.
Yes, you can crouch cancel every move to the best of my knowledge. The only exceptions I can think of are grabs (which includes moves like Bowser's side-B, Yoshi's neutral-B, and Kirby's neutral-B).
Props to VGboot camp for these tournament videos. Fastest uploads ever.

yooo good shit VGBC :D
14:25 Brinstar was still legal in 2011? Wow.
27:08 And Rainbow Cruise?! What the...
Oh my God this made me laugh so muchhh.
Then I heard "right now we're thanking plank for this tournament."
And I wanted to cry.
WHOAH THIS IS SO COOL THE LEFT HEADPHONE HAS GAME SOUNDS AND THE RIGHT HAS COMMENTARY OMG MINDBLOWN.
32:02... Armada throws a stitch away? Dudeeee that song must have shook him so much.
Uploaded so fast, mad props.
Mrs. Person: "Ah isn't nature just great honey? The trees, the creeks...honey what are you looking at?"
Mr. Person: "BEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!"
@mustardpi314 they said it in the commentary. they turned the lights off in the venue.
This is one of the greatest sets I've ever seen.
This is the same thing as me, someone from Chicago, going to a Sox game and complaining about the fans from my own city cheering on the White Sox
34:15 I think I just heard one of Mango's "oh" 's.
@strawhats100 Awesome thanks. Btw is the tournament at the hotel?
"last stock of the tournament"
*sees 20 minutes left in video*
wombo combo
That combo at 23:44 that immediately turns a 4-2 lead into an even game. Holy fuck
I guess they didn’t know what DI was back then
Still the greatest GFs ever.
6 months later, I know who's going to win but it's still hype. I'm calpping here.
@likemy It was me D1, I'm sry but its too difficult to contain yourself when you're watching Dr. PP make a 2 Set comeback during the Grand Finals. @VideoGameBootCamp not gonna lie, it really killed all the suspense for me
@Artictoc Johns. Crowd pressure is a legitimate factor in tournament play, and it's not like this was Armada's first American national. 34:30 didn't GRSmash just do a "Best off screen deaths"... why the F*** was this not on it?! That stock is LEGENDARY!!
@ATVSmash Yeah dude I know, but I meant there was so much hype and tension in person, but watching on youtube and seeing that the video is not even halfway done, we kinda knew it wasn't going to be his last stock ya know? x)
13:27
"BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIRRRRRRRRRRR"
Orgasm achieved.

I love this primarily for the Pokémon song. It's so good.
13:29
Reminds me of my last camping trip.
2:26 looks like Falco is saying " it happened in the blink of an eye"
FINALLY FIGURED OUT THE “Go PP Go PP Go” chant. Its based on this!!! ruclips.net/video/cCBzNR6vzak/видео.html
@strawhats100 Where did you hear about that money match? And will there be a vid?
This is untrue. Yes PP played better at this tournament than he did any tournament before, but remember a few months before this tourney when PP went to Cali, while he did win, Mango was still in his sandbagging phase and 3-stocked him twice with FALCON (I think?) twice in WFs then somehow lost 3 in a row, then lost GFs 3-1 as well, but this was Mango's sandbagging phase. that 'oh did i win?' made me lol. i think one of the future tourneys should be called Oh Did I Win? like how Show Me Your Moves! is.

grand finals without putting up all the matches before it?
@VideoGameBootCamp What about those of us who use headphones?
