Even though I'm not currently in the market to buy new gear, I really enjoyed this video. I find it interesting to hear someone compare different things and give their personal preferences. And since you don't spend too much time on each question, you were able to go through a lot which really kept my attention.

"it depends" is the best and correct answer! A professor of mine taught me it's value, and now I teach it to my students. Put down all the variables, categorize them into Need, Would Like, and Want, and don't forget get your "clear goals" and budget.

Great video! I picked up the X-H1 and traded in my X-T2. The larger grip, better shutter button placement, and IBIS meant that the X-H1 better suited my needs. Plus it was being heavily discounted since they weren't selling all that well. To be honest, I'm not as keen on the aperture/ISO/shutter/exp comp retro dial setup anymore. I have an X-Pro2, and for that because it lends itself to a different, more deliberate shooting style, the dials make a lot of sense: I love it. For the XT series... meh... as a long time former Nikon user, the thumb/finger wheel dial set up on dSLRs is a whole lot faster for portrait or action shooting. Using the big dial on the Fuji for shutter and then "fine tuning" it with a finger dial seems inefficient. Oh.... and Godox makes a "round head" adapter for its rectangular speedlights so why they make the round flash seems... counterproductive.

When looking for a body, I would get the X-H1. It is a bit bigger that the X-T2, but man that IBIS is amazing and especially as a beginner you can try some vintage lenses for amazing results on the cheap. The larger EVF is also vital when checking focus on manual lenses.
And you can get used bodies for around 700 bucks. So good.
Personally, I had the X-T20 and switched to the X-H1 and it is such an improvement. I don't do video btw.
However, I loved the X-T20 for its size. That was just insane how tiny it was and how good the quality of the images was. Just great.

    regarding the XT30 i disagree!
i just switched a week and a half ago from years using nikon to the fuji xt30 and within this week and a half i already find the Q button placement very convenient, a quick access with my thumb, and i never pressed it by mistake, not even once, not even in the first days of using it.
also the joystick is super fast and responsive i definitely prefer it to the D pads that i had on the nikons.
and i never had a problem with the touch screen.
i ws kind of scarred moving from the nikon that i'm very familiar with and thought it would take me much longer to adjust, but the xt30 is very intuitive.

Ok, here is a situation. Imagine you're a landscape photographer using fuji gear only, going out for a multi-day high altitude hiking/climbing expedition (say 4000+ metre), where SAVING WEIGHT IS ABSOLUTE NECESSARY and so is bringing weather-sealed gears. You wanna shoot astro, wanna shoot climbing and you wanna change lenses as less as possible. You can take one body and 3 lenses. You got two combination options within more or less same budget. 1st, 16mm f1.4 + 35mm f2 + 50-140mm f2.8... and the 2nd, Rokinon 12mm (I know, not weather-sealed) +16-55 f2.8 + 90mm f2. Which combination you'd likely to pick?

I wouldn't start with multiple speedlights, but with one! Natural light photography comes with challenges, but when you start shooting with a speedlight you'll meet a lot more challenges. So start with those challenges first and when you've got the hang of that (and know how to get the results you want), then buy a second speedlight. And yes, you'll get even more challenges then (like out of sync flashes, flash output and that kind of stuff).

I returned the big, heavy XF 18-185mm because while I was happy with the IQ, my little compact x100v (the camera that lured me into going all Fuji and motivated me to sell ALL my Nikon gear, e.g., Z6ii and a bunch of lenses) spoiled me and has made me want everything to be as small and lightweight as possible. I would argue, that with the Tamron f/2.8 zooms and especially with the 18, 24, 45 and 75 primes that Samyang make, one can have as small of a full frame system as a Fuji system. And the f/1.8s will be like f/1.2 lenses on a crop body. Plus, you can put them not on 7 Mk.3, but on 7R Mk.3 that will kill in resolution any 24 or 26MP camera, without making your system bigger...

I know that a big draw for a lot of users is Fuji's Prime lenses... However of late I have been in deep consideration about consolidating my kit.
Mainly ditching my 14mm f2.8 (have loved this for landscape and indoor family situations) and 18-55 kit lens for the 16-55 f2.8.
I keep flirting with the idea but never really pulling the trigger for a couple of reasons.
1 - will I miss that extra bit of wideness going from 14 to 16
2 - is the 16-55 too big for an xt20 with grip (although there is a potential to upgrade in the future).
Would like to know if anyone has had the same thought process as me, and what you ended up doing (if anything)

Sold my xt30 to get a new xt3 just, I really don't know why (maybe bcuz of weather sealed) but if i had to only get one prime lens which one would it be. I shoot portraits and streetphotography just out of passion and not profession.

I have the 18-55 kit lens, and would like to know whether I'd find a 16mm prime useful? Is the difference between 18 and 16 very significant?

Hey! My Godox 350TT lasted two weeks and just died. Not that it may not be a great option for some people, but I'd definitely not recommend it.
    Thanks for the video, Omar

I have an X-H1 with a few lenses, including the 27mm pancake lens. I’m thinking of getting the X100V for easy carry around and maybe street photography. Is it worth getting or am I better off just using my X-H1 and 27mm pancake lens? I haven’t really played with the X100 series so I don’t know if I’ll like the ergonomics. I love the ergonomics of the X-H1, along with the shutter and IBIS. Thanks! Love your videos!

I bought the XT20 as my friend recommended it & I wanted to get into photography! You're videos have been a massive help because I really knew nothing about this camera when I purchased it!! I have a kit lens, 15-45 & probably won't upgrade for a while where I'm still learning but what lens would you recommend for landscape photography? I particularly like beach & sunsets! Thanks again for the great content, I've learnt loads from you already! :)

This is awesome, Omar. I’m keeping it in a special place for reference. Not because of the gear specifically (although I have x-t20 with kit lens and don’t like the variable aperture and un-indexed aperture ring, either). This is valuable because of your coverage of why one thing or the other. Saves time and oops for buying something without thinking of a certain option/variable. And to keep in mind other directions to take your photography. Enjoy your trip to Maine! Stop in Portland on the way. I’d say for the restaurants, but, you know, COVID. Stay safe and enjoy Acadia.

Great show ! I recently bought a secont hand XT20 with the 18-55 kitlens. I love it, but i am looking for 2 other lenses to expend. your review about the 12mm F2.0 Samyang Lens made me go for this one and i am saving up for it. i am also in the market for a 50mm prime. i hear good stories about the Kamlan 50mm F1.1 II model. Did you had this lens in your hands allready > ?

I want to take photos of birds and maybe some moon photos with my X-T30, and I'm thinking about getting the 100-400mm and the 1.4TC. Is this a good idea or should I just get a good super zoom instead, like the Nikon P1000?

    • @TrueLies6969
      @TrueLies6969 4 года назад +1

I've got the X-T30 and the XF 100-400. Highly recommended this combination. Fun to shoot and good for birds and moon.

    • @ogonzilla

I’d go with the lens for the moon. For birds it was great but mostly in bright conditions. Higher ISO and detail suffers.

I would pick the X-T3/X-T4 for sports over both the Sony A73 and Canon EOS R. Maybe the soon-to-be-released Canon EOS R6 would be the full-frame camera to do sports at that near price range.

See my issue is that I want to do street and night street photography and the a7iii has better AF and low light performance to a degree. But I love the way the fuji xt3 now xt4 looks and the idea of manuel dials. It's going to be my first personal camera so im going back and fourth. A lot. Struggling to make a decision.
