I must say he gets a lot of grief but I've always respected his vocal style in Sepultura. No he's not Max but at the end of the day Max quit. He wasn't fired, he wasn't asked to leave. He quit. Since then Derek has been doing nothing but kicking ass!!! Quadra is simply magnificent!!!
For sure. Always loved his vocal style. Quadra is heavy af. Derrick earned it man. Moved to Brazil, learned Portuguese, and studied the culture for years. Next level dude. Thanks for watching. -Garza

The biggest challenge. Trying to get weekly guests has been hard but im lucky we are still going. I want you to have a weekly podcast to look forward to. -Garza
@@GarzaPodcast Hey bro! Loving these podcasts man, if your ever short of guests have you thought about doing an episode on like up and coming bands you're into? And a look at new single/albums you're digging? Gives them a spotlight and you get to keep the content coming? Just a suggestion bro 😊 keep up the great work 🤘
Derek is the only guy I see fronting Sepultura from now and forever his style is unique and powerful and hope him and the band continues to write amazing music for many years to come🤟
Love Derrick. Not a massive fan of his voice but he's an absolutely great dude on a personal level. Very intelligent and well spoken. We could all learn a lot from this man. Quadra is absolutely crushing too.
I hate to bring up a fuckin race related point, but in the early 2000's was when I started seeing a lot more black dudes getting into heavy metal and even hard rock. But now that everyone has the internet and how great the access to music is now, metal has reached new fans that 20 years ago wouldn't have given metal a single look, let alone become a lifelong fan. To me, that is awesome!!!
In 2009 they released A-Lex and it was my first show, Sepultura and Angra. When Derek rushed to the stage screaming the lyrics for Moloko mesto I was in the front row, and I'm not gonna lie, I flinched hard and backed off the stage. He was a beast and it felt like he would beat the shit out of me hahaha I also had the privilege to watch their first show with Eloy and see them play Roots with Korn. He is a killer front-man!
Lol. He funny af. Totally earned it. Loved Max and respect him for what he brought to the table of extreme music but srsly - he left on his own. Totally legit for Andreas and crew to keep the name. N1 lesson from Sepultura Max fiasco is to never make your wife the manager of the band. Love these podcasts.
This is the greatest conversation ive seen! Im lucky to have stumbled on it. Theres so much great content from vegan to healthcare for musicians. Thank you soo much. I will be putting this on loop!
Met Derrick in Melbourne at the side show meet and greet and he was all smiles and friendly and absolutely slayed on stage that night, super strong and powerful vocals for the whole set
Sepultura was my first concert. We saw them in McAllen, TX. This was for the Against album. He had beer and water bottles thrown at him….. and still carried on and kicked total ass. They played a lot of Chaos A.D. songs. Derrick is a hell of a front man.
Love the show and have for a long time now, this was a really great and informative episode! Mr. Green is truly a well spoken and big hearted individual. As a Sepultura fan that is only familiar with the early stuff, this made me want to take a deeper dive into Derrick's approach on the band and I must say I am floored. Excited for the future of the show and Sepultura!
Nice to see this and talk about veganism. I went vegan almost 5 years ago now and it's good to see people in metal talk about this stuff. Yeah I remember the protein thing and learned a lot about nutrients. I remember thinking all plant based food was just salad and vegetables but there's so much stuff and things you can make yourself. Enjoying the conversation so far. May update this comment after finishing.
Wtf? Derrick is from CLEVELAND?!?!?!?! Hahahaha For 20 years I thought he was from Brazil!!!! I'm an idiot! I've ran the front of house system for them once and have watch a few sound checks and never realized he didnt have a heavy ass accent! Lol
After Roots, I honestly couldn't bring myself to like any of the material they were putting out - and it was deffinitely NOT because of Derrick. With Quadra, that long lasting "spell" seems to be broken though, because as soon as I've heard 1 or 2 songs from that album I wad pretty much floored. Absolutely hooked! Had to buy it as soon as it came out! I hope they are gonna follow this amazing new direction 🤘🏻

Derrick is amazing. Just wish they would construct an album as powerful as Beneath the Remains or Arise around his style. Yes, they've done songs similar to that but not a full album.
People can talk shit all they want. New Sepultura is great. If you don’t agree, you haven’t listened to Quadra, which is easily their best album of post-Cavalera era.
