  • Bag 2 is done. This is a challenging puzzle, but I am enjoying it very much. It is forcing me to plan. I am a person who has always enjoyed making plans and building strategies. This is great for that. So far it is going better than I first expected. Thank you to all my viewers who have welcomed me back after a long absence. I am very close to breaking the 1000 subscriber barrier, and I am hoping this is the video that puts me over the top.

Considering you don’t tend to be a sorter, you are great at it - you are really methodical and you have far more patience than I have 😃 I have nothing but admiration for you for tackling this puzzle - it really looks tough - it’s looking amazing so far though 😍
Thanks for another great video Russell!

I am really enjoying this one. It makes me want to do more large puzzles.

Well done on getting that section done. Good to hear that you are happy with your progress so far. I'm afraid I run a mile from puzzles that large. I wouldn't have the patience and no space to do it anyway. I was amused to see that the subtitles said you were doing a full 'sword'! 🤣

I had to chuckle when you started the Timelapse for the black window frame part and a few seconds later you said, well it’s done. 😂 good job. This was always my dream puzzle in being the first big one I knew over 10 years ago. But I wasn’t brave enough to tackle this. Glad that you are sharing the process.

Unfortunately, it took a little longer than the video shows. It is getting easier, though, as I learn the patterns better

You should be very proud of that time. This is a very difficult puzzle (at least for me) and you are moving along with great patience and progress.

Section E was surely more difficult than section A because it had huge sections of similar patterns. Sections B, F, C, G look very enjoyable as they have quite some variety - but section D and especially section H look *very* tough. But by then you are a NYC puzzling professional and will laugh about the challenge. 🙂

In case you start with a single sessions of "empty the bag and sort", I would suggest using something like newspaper or whatever else disposable for that initial pile i.e. the place where you end up with most of the dust. That way, unlike in this video, you don't have to clean anything, just throw the paper away. The way you are doing it in this video, you actually have to clean the box, because you obviously 1) want to keep that box and 2) you would like to have the box as clean as possible.
Another, a bit fancier method, would be to use a colander along with that newspaper. That is, pour say, 1000 pieces in that colander, shake it on top of the newspaper (hard enough to get the dust off, but softly enough to not damage the pieces), pour the 1000 pieces somewhere (like another newspaper), repeat until you are done with all the pieces, throw the first newspaper away, do the initial sort and throw the other newspaper away. Should help _a lot_ with the dust.
edit. I guess vacuum cleaner can work too like you did in with the bag three.

I tried a colander but it still left a lot. Picking from the box seems to work. I wish o would have kept all the dust from the start.

Ravensburger has so much dust because they want to avoid losing or breaking pieces after separation anc before bagging. The more steps in between, the more chances for pieces to stray.
I also enjoy your puzzle videos and have missed them. For me it's your voice that's calming, and I puzzle to calm myself. Also like you explaining your strategies. Especially for large puzzles, as I like doing large puzzles myself, unfortunately there are not many with motifs I like.

This puzzle is insane! It would take me yeras to finish just one section, I would run out of lifetime to finish the entire thing 😂

I think you will also find if you take the top half of the puzzle, turn it 180 degrees, it will match the bottom half of the puzzle. I noticed that in my "bombardment of Algiers" puzzle
