I just did mine the other day, recharged with R-134a, not R-1234yf, works good too. Do your wallet a favor, the only reason they were switched to the new stuff is because the patent for R-134a ran out and honeywell lobbied the gov to force the adoption of their new proprietary refrigerant. Thats the only reason, the system is backwards compatible and actually the gases are made to be interchangeable. They wont tell you that tho and techincally its illegal to do for a shop but not for you as the owner.
I bought a Honda civic 2016, after 3 years I started having problem with the AC, and the compressor was changed , so I went to the dealer and I paid 800 for a new one, now after 3 years my car is blowing hot air, I just saw your video and it was so helpful. I thought the compressor got damaged again, I saved a lot of money.
there was a lawsuit on the recent hondas with their AC system... they acknowledged there was a problem but I think they're just extending warranty lol awful
@sasuxsakuxfan you can get reimbursed back for it if you can prove the compressor and/shaft seal was replaced. I'm here cuz I just got it checked out and they said it was fine but immediately after I got the car back I'm only getting fresh air, nothing cold.
@@sasuxsakuxfanyes but they don’t change the air compressor. They won’t refill the ac until you fix the compressor and they wanted charge me 2 grand to fix it and replace it with a new one .
Short, concise, info-packed, to-the-point; good audio, visuals, and easily understood commentary. The definition of a perfect DIY instructional video. I've done this before on my 96 Civic but about to do it on my 'new' 2016, and wanted to make sure the method was the same. Thanks a ton sir, and great work!
Shops are quick to point out that you need a new compressor/condenser, without even trying to check fuses, relay or refrigerant levels. I just did this on our Honda Accord. If you have enough pressure in the system, your compressor clutch should come on. I's start by checking the fuses first. it's the easiest part, if you don't hear the compressor clutch clicking on & off, check the relay in your fuse box, then check the low pressure tube, if it's cold, you have refrigerant in it, lastly check to ensure it's in the green. If the tube is warm or room temp, you might just need to add refrigerant, so the pressure switch can turn on your compressor. If you have no refrigerant in the system, your compressor will not engage. When the engine is running and you are watching the gauge, you will see the needle jump up and down as the compressor clutch switches on & off, at which point you are good to go and your A/C should blow cold.
I just want to say thank you, seriously worked like a charm and I am so happy!!!!! It was so hot and I couldn’t take it any longer. I’m so glad to have come across this video! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Bro you prob just saved me hundreds of dollars I’ve been looking for a video like this forever. I thought I was going to have to go to a mechanic they all tell me they would charge me anywhere from 500-600 dollars
There's a TSB (23-039) for 10th Gen Honda Civics for bad compressors. Honda has extended the warranty on them from 3 to 10 years. Before you start doing any home DIY work on your 10th Gen I recommend first calling your Honda dealership and giving them your VIN to see if your vehicle is covered under the TSB. If your vehicle is covered and the compressor is not damaged from some other reason, Honda will repair your compressor for free.
Thank you. Here's some more Information: (1) Shake can well (2) screw can onto hose (3) screw adapter to L (low) port after unscrewing and removing dust cap. Pull spring-loaded ring up and away from L port; press adapter firmly all the way on the L port sleeve. Release the spring-loaded ring to seal hose onto port. (4) Turn A/C on high w/vents on full (5) screw pin into can to puncture seal, then pack off, allowing refrigerant to drain out of the can and into the system, holding can upside down. One can should produce cold air. (6) Turn off car (7) remove hose w/adapter from L port; remove empty can from hose. Discard empty can.
Thank you, I wasn't sure if the car should be running while filling the A/C, sounds like that's how it's done ~ thanks for the step by step instructions.
My man. I was looking for an exact video like this. I have a 2018 Civic EX and every other video is like 20 minutes long trying to explain shit about an older gen civic. You earned a sub and a like!!
Good job on the video, but your AC pressure normally doesn't get that low. You have a leak in the condenser. This is a known issue on the 10th gen and Honda has an extended warranty that covers the repair.
@Moko Koco same. Got the condenser replaced under their warranty, and it's out again after a year. Guess I'll be refilling it every summer. Makes no sense to replace the condenser every year for $1200-1500 when I can just refill it. It's completely absurd and terrible for the environment but what can we do? Nothing. Until Honda owes up to it and completely replaces their terrible AC units, there's nothing we can do.
Awesome video, Giovanny! Quick and to the point. The service department at one of my local Honda dealerships told me since my car has a rebuilt title, it’s not eligible to be covered but I wrote Honda corporate an email and await their response.
Have done everything to my car from intercooler tune and intake to exhaust and oil changes. Was too lazy and had a place recharge my ac, spent 1k… learned fast why I do everything myself haha.
Okay cool mine just started blowing warm air and I already took it to get it fixed when the recalled happened hopefully this helps and I don’t have to pay for a new one
Thanks for the help! I had 0 PSI instead of 20 psi in the video, did everything as shown. Used the same refrigerant can and it went to 30 PSI. It only blows cold when I set it between Low-60 degrees, going any further in temp goes back to warm air. Buying another can of refrigerant to see if that'll fix it. Quick and understandable diy fix!
@@marktate2683 yup, its either AC compressor, the condenser, or some other AC part. too expensive for me to repair so i chose to use this method until i sell the car 🤣
@Bambi214 take it to the dealership and have them inspect it, if it's the compressor they will replace it under the extended warranty. Thanks for the video - but just wondering why are you recharging it? Is it because of a faulty AC system for the 10th gen? Or did you simply overused the AC hence having to recharge? How is it now 1 year later since you posted this video? Is it still icy cold? Issues?
