Your video was the most informative video, I have seen so far. My car 2016 HondaCivic was also blowing hot air out of the driver side port. I'm using your advice and video tomorrow
I just brought my 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid to the dealership for an AC inspection. I am aware there is an extended warranty because of faulty compressors that develop slow leaks. Honda played with it for 6 hours, and claimed they could find no leaks after putting in some florescent dye. They didn't tell me that we should wait a while and check it again with a UV light. What they did tell me was that it would be a good idea to spend $600 for a full evac and recharge. They said Honda cannot do what you see in the video, just adding half a can. I decided not to spend $600 and did exactly what's in this video and it's blowing nice and cold now. I will be back to Honda if the UV light I just purchased shows a leak that they claimed is not there.
What lies! I’m so glad to hear that using the remedy in this video worked for you. I anticipate it will work for me too. And my thanks for this wonderful and straightforward tutorial!
Thanks. Gotta do this with my 2017. Honestly I needed to do this over a year ago but I've been putting it off. During this summer though, the heat is too unbearable, so I'm biting the bullet lol.
Just FYI there is a class action lawsuit against Honda regarding 2016 to 2018 Honda Civic and supposedly going to be resolved by 2024. Hopefully, there will be a recall issue.
I called about the extended warranty because of the class action lawsuit. Apparently, it doesn't cover the entire compressor. They told me just the seal. I love my car, and this is so frustrating.
R1234yf (and hose/fittings) are extremely hard to find in most stores. Every auto part store I've been to sells R134a kits. Thank goodness for online shopping.
I have a 2017 Honda Civic. Was not getting any cold ac so I checked the pressure and it was almost 0. So as soon as I plugged in the can of refrigerant, the pressure began to rise and the compressor kicked on. Long story short, I now have cold air when I turn on my AC. Woohoo.
Agree with you that you should not have any AC issues. Contact you dealer regarding the recall for this and the AC system is covered for a whole 10 yrs look into it going forward.
My 2017 went through 2 condensers within 6 months. On top of that the compressor seals went out in early 2021. Too many people with the same issues (condenser, compressor). American Honda denied goodwill assistance.
there was just an extended warranty/recall on your model! you can file a claim and get your money back! look up your VIN number if you have not received a letter yet. it was for the condenser and compressor.
When you hook up the gage and you kept pressing the trigger you let outside air inyour system it will work for a while then it will go out and now you have to put a vacuum on
Nina, anybody else, consider getting ES, enviro safe formula of this same thing, I topped off a system with it and it brought the temperature down to 37° at idle quickly not in 10 minutes.
Hows your car now aftr your recharged? You nid to recharge it again the refrigerant it seems 2yrs now aftr you recharge right? Thnk you for your response
Honda did have a recall for this exact issue / problem with the AC. I took it into the dealership along with my recall letter received in the mail from Honda headquarters and the dealership repaired the AC. There was a leak and the repair was 100% free due to having had the recall. Thank goodness for that!!
Wow, people... please don't copy whats going on here! This person is pointlessly sucking straight AIR into a closed system pressing the trigger checking the pressure. Then proceeds to overcharge the thing thinking you can read the gauge while its feeding. This isn't a gas tank where you fill it up to full.... You check the pressure and if its low, depending on the ambient temp (find a chart) you charge to the number on the chart which should be somewhere in the green area. Pretty sure there are instructions right in the pressure gauge that were obviously completely ignored.
2018 with replaced compressor in 2019 and still leaking. I didn't go back to the dealer because they will probably tell me it's the seal and not covered.
I have a 2018 civic hatchback in 2020 had to have compressor replaced because it had a leak then in 2021 same ac issue but this time it was condenser an now 2022 the compressor is leaking again, but this time dealer wants 2800$ to fix it. I said nope not fixing something I'll end up fixing again next year. So far 2 weeks strong with cold AC just refilling the freon an mine was dead empty
three years - So, how long does an AC recharge last? Your air conditioning is not something that runs constantly, so unless you live in a very hot climate, you can usually expect a recharge to last at least three years.
Señor y los carros no se cargan de esta manera y mucho menos metiéndole tanto gas a 50 libras de presión. Solo carguen el carro máximo hasta 30 libras y así evitaran daños al compresor y al sistema.
Did you take it to Honda? If so what did they do and how long did it take them? My Honda Accord 2018 blows hot air and yet to take it to Honda. Don’t want to ruined the warranty
Funny, us professionals need certification 609 to service ac systems and to buy more than 1 lbs of refrigerant or be fined and jailed. Our 8 thousand dollar recovery and recycle machine needs to be registered with the EPA, we need a refrigerant identifier and sealant leak detector, and we need a separate recovery machine and junk tank to recover contaminated refrigerant to take to a facility. We also need different tools for locating system leaks because you don't want vehicles coming back leaking 100's of dollars of refrigerant. Then the government changes to a different refrigerant which requires a whole set of different equipment to the service newer systems, but Joe billy bob or Sue Ellen can go to Walmart and buy a can of refrigerant and suicide gauge and top off ac systems without a clue how the system works.
honda just extended the warranty on the AC for 10 years. no official recall though. you can get this fixed for free, but they'll probably use a new version of the same crappy thing that was installed in the first place. so repeat again in 4 years i guess.
Stay away from this R134YF, they should not be having problems like this so early in the life cycle of the vehicle. I do this sort of thing for my fleet and my friends, I use an alternative refrigerant. I am currently servicing a 2017 dart, having a little trouble with it responding in a traditional kind of way. r 1234 YF is garbage. Stay away from anything that has it or consider converting it.
Honda strives to ensure its customers maintain confidence in the Honda products they purchase or lease. In keeping with this objective, Honda Canada has expanded the original warranty extension announced in August, 2019 on the air conditioner condenser for certain 2016-2018 Honda Civic vehicles to include the following vehicles, in order to address any potential issue with these condensers, which may ultimately lead to a refrigerant leak: 2018-2020 Honda Civic (2 door & 4 door) 2017-2020 Honda Civic (5 door) 2018-2020 Honda Accord 2018-2020 Honda Accord Hybrid 2019-2021 Honda Insight 2018-2021 Honda Clarity This warranty extension covers repairs associated with an air conditioner condenser leak resulting from a quality issue with the applicable air conditioner condensers. The warranty extension will extend the original manufacturer’s warranty on applicable components to 10 years, from initial vehicle registration, with no mileage limit. Honda dealers have been provided with the applicable warranty repair procedures. A process will also be available for customers who previously incurred costs to repair a component covered by this warranty extension, to make a claim for reimbursement of such costs. Honda Canada expects to begin sending written notification of this warranty extension to owners and lessees of included vehicles, in August 2021. These notifications will outline the terms of the applicable warranty extension and the process for making claims to recover the cost of previous repairs that are now covered by the terms of the warranty extension. Honda dealers will consider requests by customers for alternative transportation, or reimbursement of the same, for the period in which their vehicle is awaiting or undergoing repairs covered by this warranty extension. Honda Canada is taking these steps because it recognizes the importance of satisfying its Canadian customers. 👍🏼I just did my 2016, today. I’ll need to check if my vehicle was part of the recall for something in the A/C system.
do yk which hondas were?
there was a recall for condenser and compressor issues in all certain hondas but forsure 2016 - 2018 civics!
Having the same exact issue with my 2018. Going to be charging mine up soon too. Hopefully it stays charged for a while. Great video.
The charge only last a year bro I’ve been charging my 2019 civics also
Same problem

Manufacturers put in the minimum gas ,Then with natural loss it is not long before you have no gas ..I have just had this on a friends 2018 Abarth

I swear I had the same issue. Dealer fixed it. Now my damn compessor is shot! 2018 Civic with 45000 miles.
There are warranty extensions for the compressor seal and condenser fyi Honda actually cares about customers
is this a piercing ( sharp pointed needle ) tap or a self-sealing tap ( flat piston needle ) tap?
2018 with replaced compressor in 2019 and still leaking. I didn't go back to the dealer because they will probably tell me it's the seal and not covered.
Quick question, a year later are you still having issues with the Ac?
