As an LN reader... it's pretty obvious they are trying to pace things at about 3 episodes per volume. I agree about the movie within a movie, especially as the movie plot doesn't seem to relate to overall plot. In the LN we get things from Yuta's POV so his internal monolog is there along with some additional dialog. For whatever reason they've chosen to minimize part of the dialog while adding what's basically filler.
I'll say that the conversation in the park after the movie goes differently in the LN than the anime, not to the point it being totally off, but having just re-read volume 2 (which is where we're at) it left me wondering about the rational for some of the changes. IMO it's a tiny bit clear from the LN that it's something Yuta says which stops Shiori-sempai's words, I think she basically realized "damn, even if he's a good conversation partner he's really is X years younger" as well as her realizing that he really does have her in the friendzone which is why he's able to talk to her so easily.

Thanks for this comment this provides a lot of context. And honestly it kinda peeves me off that if they made some better decisions we would’ve had clearer understanding of senpai her feelings and the situation. I know there’s a good story here wish it came out more I’ll try and have faith but dang reading what could’ve been hurts 😭😭

Poor senpai tho. She clearly likes our MC.

I don’t think I quite get Shiori-sempai’s story. Is she dreaming of a fairytale style romance and sees Yūta as her hero? Somehow that doesn’t fit with the other parts of her personality. Maybe it’s saying that a jaded and dirty-minded girl can also have a pure maiden’s heart.
Maybe this whole story is about opposite traits within people. Shiori is jaded, but with a pure heart. That leaves the door open for Saki to be a man-hater, but with a longing for romance, or something like that.

I think the story is about relationship's that society may not approve of. Note that due to the age difference (especially when she's older) this applies to a potentially relationship between Shiori-sempai and Yuta.

@@JefferyThomasWritesCode I think dot in the comment hits my understanding. It’s more that she has some feelings, but doesn’t explore them cause she knows she’s a couple years older, it’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but she’s in college he’s in high school. So my take is being in love but it’s wrong hence the moment with the big dramatics and flowers then her in her car.
I think. Hard to say for sure, dot was saying that the LN did a much better job of giving us this scene so it’s not confusing. 😢
