  • 和hé,as a conjunction, it can be used to connect nouns (mainly) and verbs, but not adjectives or sentences.
和hé also means peace and harmony, it's very special in Chinese culture, there are many idioms about this character and I introduced a few in my video.
和hé also can be pronounced as hú, only be used to announce "win" in Mahjong game.
和 has another special pronunciation, huó, it can be used to say huó miàn和面, miàn means flour, so huómiàn means “knead dough” in mandarin Chinese. I didn't introduce this pronunciation in my video cuz it's not a very common expression for many Chinese learners. So I explain here just in case you're interested in.
Happy leaning and stay safe. ❤️

This was very useful. I haven’t found a clear explanation of this until now and I’ve been studying Chinese for a long time! 謝謝

Thank you very much for your video!
Also, I'll tell my mom she should say 和了 whenever she wins a Mahjong match on her tablet 🤣.
    Hugs from Italy!

"the food was all over the china" china is used to refer to 瓷 because the highest quality ci came from China. Whenever we say "the china" we are referring to 瓷 and not to 中国
"all over" can mean "concluded" OR "everywhere". I suggest using "everywhere" to avoid risk of confusion.
"high speed rail is now all over China" = "high speed rail is now everywhere in China"; both are correct and mean the same thing. "It's all over now" = it has ended.

@@zoeythesharer9050 I know that "the" is very difficult for Chinese and Russians. Anywhere you can use 一个 you should use "a", anywhere you use 这个 you should use "the". Because English uses articles much more frequently than Chinese you can and should use the article. In those places in Chinese where you CANNOT use 一个 , 这个 you are likewise best to OMIT "a, the". You can use your own language here as the baseline! It also helps to understand these are fine points of sounding good and mistakes on using an article don't much influence comprehension! So do your best, don't be upset about errors on this one.
I'm really sorry English uses S at the end is used to indicate PLURAL, POSSESSIVE and the THIRD PERSON SINGULAR. That confuses even small anglo children! Unfortunately, errors on that one do effectc comprehension. 's = 的 , -s=们 but -s also = 她/他/它 [verb].

@@QuizmasterLaw yes very true. "the" is very confused to many non-English speakers. My coworker used to keep correcting me 😂😂😂.

you don't need a connector between clauses in chinese.
    我去工作,哪里有意思的同事.
clauses can be connected with 但是, 而且, 终于, 不过, 别管, (...等等等) and other two-syllable contrasting or qualifying connectors. We as foreigners must try our best to learn to think like Chinese people so as to be understood.

和 而 也 all could be translated as "and".
    和 with 跟
    而 and [,moreover,][,in contrast,]
    也also
as seen, these words all correspond to english "and" but also have other related meanings which are however different from each other.
跟 really can't be translated as "and" it means "with" and only with. it doesn't seem to have other usages.

I think at least one person has done a video comparing 和--也 and/or 和--跟, but I am certain no one has done a video comparing 和 跟 于 也 而 so i would suggest one video with five rather than five individual videos, though you should do what You want. :)

prosperity is a word. prosperousness isn't.
it's a minor error, however I am sure you would want to speak even better.
Your English is excellent. You do have a very minor accent however I can easily understand everything you say, have heard much worse Chinese accented English and enjoy your lessons very much. Thank you for teaching us! 谢谢老师 !
