Not a big deal, but as a disabled person who uses a wheelchair -- mobility aids are things like canes/walkers/wheelchairs. Things that help with mobility or ambulation. When referring to tools that help disabled people do tasks more easily, you might call them accessibility tools or assistive devices, lots of names, but generally, they aren't referred to as mobility aids :)

I just want to add on as a disabled person; even if you used the wrong wording, I want to thank you so much for considering disabled perspectives at all in these amazon product dives. So many content creators write gadgets off as useless (especially the ones seen on TV infomercials) when many people can utilize them to improve their quality of life. It really just goes to show how horribly some of these "essentials" are designed that they'd even be terrible as accessibility items lol

Right! Like the butter foundation stick, and the onion device seem like they would be excellent for someone who has difficulties holding knives.
And honestly as someone who has butter and toast often the butter foundation stick sounds mad useful in general lol. I hate having to warm up knives to get the butter to spread more easily. I'd probably get something made of ceramic or metal though.

I heard though that treating their product like a trend makes the product more accessible as an aid because the company has a lot more revenue & that abundance of orders keeps the price low due to lower shipping costs.

I guess but at the same time able bodied people shouldn't be catered to. Disabled people are allowed to have products aimed at them, but our society is very ableist, and thinks there's "isn't enough people". As if able-bodied people might not also benefit.

It's a good rule of thumb that if something seems fairly useless, it was probably originally designed for somebody with disabilities! An onion slicer might help somebody with arthritis who can't firmly grip; likewise, the cutlery brush might be easier for folks who struggle with fine motor control and are at risk of injury when scrubbing forks and knives.

For example compression garments, braces, a rolling stool for the kitchen, an adjustable device to help me open lids, and pillows/bolsters for my bed, couch, and car rides. A lot of grocery stores sell minced garlic so I’d just buy that instead of getting an item I still have to clean.

the silicone bowl covers are genuinely a must for me. no more disposable plastic or aluminum and IKEA makes a set that goes really big that I use on mixing bowls and the insert on my pressure cooker (let it cool off, put the silicone cover on, put it in the fridge. easy.)
7:45 maybe the ikea ones are better sized, or my bowls are just perfect for these. I also use the little ones to cover half used tomatoes and onions. for cleaning I just squirt a little soap on them, get them wet, then rub it around on itself. different strokes I guess
24:23 also also omg... I bought this thing years ago bc I had (its gotten a million times better since quitting traditional shampoo) bc the amount of hair that would come off on my fingers was a sensory nightmare for me and sticking it to the walls and the time it took to peel it all off of my fingers was hell. and sometimes it'd be so overwhelming of a "oh god get it off" that I would rinse it off and yeah, clog the drain. you're meant to swipe your hand backwards through it and the fingers take the hair off your hands immediately and it keeps it from *all* going to the drain. game changer. I personally love this thing and I still use it. but it goes to show that it really does depend on the person and what their needs are.

I don't see the need for a product. I have long hair, so I definitely am familiar with the problem, though. You just get the hair off the walls and out of the hair catcher at the end of your shower, and put it in one spot on the edge of the tub. Then when it's dry later, I throw it away. (because it's so much easier to make sure you have it all when it's dry!)

Oh wow, that Fall fashion video gave me all sorts of feelings not just because of the unrealistic display of multiples, and priming for Fall consumerism, but because almost all of those items are Amazon dupes of branded, trendy items - Sezane, Birkenstock, Polene, Aritzia...and presenting this cheaper, easier to access, and often lower-quality alternative of something many people might already want (the real version of) in order to capitalize on that desire is just so icky to me.
The possibility of dissatisfaction with the dupe, stealing designs, probably even worse labor and sustainability practices than the original brands... despite just filming a week of fashion content over here I might have to do another video to talk about this 😅

My mom, who is definitely all about underconsumption, was complaining to me about a year ago about how her lids for her Pyrex/Anchor Hocking containers were breaking, because they were made of plastic while the containers were made of glass. It was just a matter of them breaking down over time. I got her some silicone lids so she could continue using them. I think that's a great use for them, personally! And sometimes, you just run out of containers (especially if you don't have too many already) but need to keep certain things separated, so it's useful to have them around for that reason as well.

So when I'm in the shower and washing my hair the strands that fall out get all over my hands and wrapped around my fingers. So instead of just smearing it on the wall, or piling it up on the soap dish holder, I can scrape it off and it stays put.
Is it necessary? No, but it makes it easier. It's not like a MUST HAVE though. But I got tired of putting this pile of hair on the side, then the shower hitting it and it going to the drain where it clogged and got gross and I had to dig it out.

I worked in a small shop and influencers that came and bought multiples for videos just to return them were a nightmare. One lady would come in every week with a giant bag of stuff from multiple stores to return and she once returned 5 pairs of boots to my shop (which cost like £900) and absolutely ruined our day because it took £900 out of our sales and we got called up to a corporate meeting because of it. Not only does it influence people to buy things they don’t need but it also impacts retail workers when influencers buy to return

Okay as someone who works sales/retail we get like max 5% commission, usually 2-3%. And I do a lot more than post a video and share a link 🙄

I heard someone once say “if you have a tool in your kitchen that can only do ONE thing, perform one function, or is specialized for one type of food- you don’t need it. It’s a gadget, a gimmick, and creating too much clutter in your space.” It really got me thinking about all those little items in my kitchen drawers that are taking up space that I don’t need because I “might” use them for that ONE recipe someday etc. It did help me to do a big clear out of all my cabinets and drawers. If I don’t use it on a weekly basis, then I don’t need it, and it’s too much. The exception would be special heirloom china or serving pieces that are collectible for certain holidays. Even then, I’ve tried to pare down and only keep what I really love, is super special, or that I can practically use. So the kitchen gadget video; while a lot of those items might be a good idea, would you actually use them? Are you currently having one of those “issues” in your kitchen on a daily basis and thinking to yourself “wow, what would really help me is one of those xyz gadgets”. If that’s the case, then go ahead and buy it, and be happy with your purchase. Otherwise, you probably don’t need it.

15:42 Well, I'm hoping Accuweather is right, and my area gets a nice cool spell the week of Sept. 9. I have surgery, and I hope for my recovery period to be cozy.😊

I'm kinda annoyed that some of these "must-haves" have started to take over like hack content. Hacks are no longer DIY, a lot of them are advertising a product instead.

I have been using the same black plastic bucket as a hamper since college in fall of 1994. When I've needed to go to a laundromat because the washer was broken or something, filling pillowcases was way easier than dealing with hampers.
