That’s what the r34 guy said lol, bros weird for saying that
I actually paused the episode and went for a walk when I first watched this episode. Like, bruh, Takumi's plot armor isn't even hidden. They're just rubbing it on our faces and saying: *YEAH BITCH, YOU LIKE THIS, DON'T YOU!? YOU DON'T? I DON'T FUCKING CARE!!*
It's pretty poorly hidden throughout tbh, masquerading as 'Fujiwara luck' is a pretty weak disguise.
Hell, Ryosuke even says he's been saved by this luck.

I don't agree with like anything you guys are saying. Why is it "poorly written?" To my memory there's no instance of him getting lucky that either is not within the realm of possibility (reasonably occurring happenstance) or was not already in some manner foreshadowed, i.e. Toshiya mentioning his old age and how his concentration could not hold. It's not plot armor.. that's just what it is. Real.

I’m pretty sure in this race it was supposed to be an insanely hot night if I remember correctly and racing like that hard is going to make you hotter and sweat even more. And since it went on for so many rounds it kinda makes sense for driver endurance to become the deciding factor and that sort of thing does happen in real life….
That all being said what makes this feel so dumb is that takumi is like 16 and god hand is like 60. Like wow bro you out endured a senior citizen.

I just watched the anime this summer and after the second stage it just got repetitive and too bullshitty just like you said. It isn't a very good anime third stage onwards. I stayed for the music though, stages 4-final have some of my favourite Eurobeat songs of all time.

Thankfully, Takumi considers this a loss, or at the very least a draw.
Definitely a loss, lol. He even pulled away.
I remember him saying it was a draw after the battle
I mean he did loss in this race. Only win by result. This is not Takumi 1st loss since he did loss to Evo guy for broken engine.
We have been hoodwinked, bamboozled, led astray, run amuck, and flat out deceived
0:39 toshima beat our own protagonist so hard he had a stroke.
I get the idea being that he failed the "endurance" part of the race, but it still seems shoehorned in. I personally count this and the Evo race as losses, even if they aren't viewed as losses to Project D.
how can you view the evo as a loss when the guy that drives the Evo even said it himself he doesn't consider it a win lmao.
@@hammbaby but Takumi felt he lost. He even admits to it. Blowing the engine without crossing finish is technically a loss. Evo driver considered it an unfinished race due to engine blowing. Regardless tho Takumi did technically lose the race.
I dont understand why they couldn't let Takumi taste defeat at least once, it made every race pointless after 4th stage.
Fr, this would have been a better series finale, if he lost this race.
He lost in second stage though
@@kotarojujo2737 Yeah but instead of him just losing they made him blow up his engine too which took away Takumi's responsibility for the loss
@@CandidaRosa889 but think about it, it's an 86 so of course the engine is gonna blow up trying to go fast as an evo.
Takumi already knows what defeat is after Bunta smoked him
Either God Hand should have won, or the writer could think of a BELIVEABLE way of Takumi winning in a way that it still shows that God Hand was superior. Like the race of Keisuke vs. God Foot, in which God Foot would clearly have won if it was uphill only, but God Foot chose to race uphill and downhill with the purpose of giving Keisuke the advantage and making things exciting for himself. And he didn't even lose, he just gave up (Keisuke started first in the second run, and he reovertakes God Food close to the finish line). It was a believeable result.
In god foot case, yes he give blonde the advantage by proposing up and down hill battle, but there's logic in that battle. God foot knew he will win nonetheless if it uphill so he give himself handicap since he wanna have fun. And in the end he conceded despite they can go another round bcos his tyre was finished. Whereas the way god hand lose was just utter BS

This one, EK9 Spoon suddenly have a cat walking by iirc, stage 3 battle with MR-2 the leaf, against Ryosuke his tires worn out but not Takumi's, and many more XD
I'd argue that the win against the MR-2 wasn't plot armor. Takumi was just thinking outside the box. The win against Ryosuke could've been due to the fact Takumi had raced on Mt Akina millions of times and I'm sure he dealt with weather conditions, tire wear, and a lot more. The cat walking by was forsure bs tho.
@@derrickmorris9423 I can agree with that
I think the writers were trying to show you that anything can happen in a race...that's why having a stroke of luck can go a long way in helping out on winning
the writer was bullshitting because he made god hand too OP and couldn't come up with a smart way to let takumi win, or god forbid takumi ever takes an L.
Man, this race will be sooooo MUCH better if only showed the part where Takumi overtakes God Hand at the end and ONLY
That could hidden the potential plot armor. Even God Hand said he could not achieve that because the s2000 is more lowered than ae86

The way I looked at this race is similar to how it feels when u kinda have to go piss a lil, but the second ur actually in the bathroom, now all of a sudden u have to go really bad. For god arm, he was holding out the whole time, because of adrenaline pumping through him. As soon as he thought the race was over, the adrenaline went down and his body couldn’t hold it in anymore. The heat quickly over came him and made him sick. It’s a lot more likely to happen then u think. It’s just how our bodies work.
Takumi even stopped after passing God Hand’s S2000. Doesn’t Takumi have any honour?
Right? Like bruh

Plot armor at its FULLEST
Plot armor is real.
I don’t think it is that bad of an asspull because it is implied he is old and does not have as much endurance as someone as young as Takumi especially since he did not expect for the race to go to an eight round. And there was a heat wave in the summer when they raced so it makes somewhat sense for his to get tired.
The whole series, I think about half of Takumi's wins were from technicalities or aka, plot armor
Takumi is always the most skilled driver in the worst car, I think Shuichi Shigeno propositaly made Takumi win almost every race by luck just to show that even If you are very good at racing you CAN'T win against a big disadvantage, unless you have luck.
But it’s an anime. Not a reality. The 86 isn’t a terrible car. It’s was actually considered a descent car for drifting. Kinda like a 240sx
@@SkyMonkey42 well, I never drove the hachi-roku, so I don't know If it's really good like some people say
@@SkyMonkey42 It's not up-to-par for performance racing, considering Takumi's opponents he definitely won out of luck especially considering how they were not only driving powerful cars but had extreme racing talent themselves. Takumi even beat the likes of Ryosuke in his FC3S which would definitely beat Takumi outside of Akina.
@@SkyMonkey42 Drift king himself drove it and called it shit to drive. Hell, the point of the anime is that the car is so shitty but Takumi can still beat more modern cars with it. That's why everyone wants to try and beat him but can't since he drives so well. "If you can drift the 86, you can drift every other car" - Drift king. That's the point
They should have put this up as a tie, not a win.
Neither of them could finish the race and it would not diminish Takumis reputation in the slightest, or be an inappropriate conclusion.
If the win against Kyoichi was a tie, then how was this a win…
It’s a tie, and it would have made more sense to call it that in the show…
this guy is the real god foot as his technique requires more precision foot work. I really wanted joshima to win this race

The power of Plot Armor.
Same thing with Ryosuke, Kogashiwa at Irohazaka, Impact Blue, etc.
No offense or anything but what is so plot armor about Impact Blue vs Takumi Fujiwara? Anyways, I respect your opinion but I just wonder what you mean by that.
@@InitialDWeebTwentyOne it was Takumi's first ever run at Usui & he was able to keep up with Mako who practised on that course for years. Especially C121.
I admit, any driver can make mistakes.
But my other gripe is that Mako was genuinely pulling a gap on Takumi at the end, Takumi was being left behind by her raw pace, but ofcourse, Mako had to spin out.
I wonder, did a lot of people forget this was an "endurance battle", as stated by Ryosuke in the beginning of the race? It isn't really a bullshit conclusion if it was already discussed before the race even started.
If people are so mad about the conclusion of this endurance race, then why isn't everybody shitting on Keisuke vs. Wataru in 4th Stage too? Both the conclusions pretty much have the same outcome.
I think they are mad that they were so close to the finish line and if he held out for just another minute or two he would have won.
I think it was smart for the author to do this imo. He couldnt make takumi lose in the final battle cause that shit would be too anticlimactic, but he also wanted to show how Takumi is still young and has room to improve.
Ok Takumi just had a good rng on him (idk what i said now)
I was in the edge of my seat when this happened....but they took it away from me!

This was a problem with 4th stage for me overall.
4th stage has some *amazingly* good races- With innovative "street techniques" along the way fitting for initial d. But instead of letting these be the reasons Takumi pulls out a win- They have the guy throw up. Or they have the guy Dodge a squirrel. Or...
Why show us these key moments that SHOULD have been the race deciding moment, only for them not to be- and then to be like "well, hes lucky"

I love Initial D and it'll always hold a place in my heart, but man that plot armour is wack
u guys do know they dont count that as a race
Sad piano music is playing for God Arm, this a genuine Greek tragedy for him
But... Takumi DID lose race. The one against Emperor's leader when he blew his 1st black top 4AG? That was a loss.
In fact many of the fans count this as Takumi's second loss as he wrecked his suspension and would have rendered the car totally non-competitive for the period and despite God Hand suffering from an acid reflux and had to stop, he could still go on thus he would still have won thus making Takumi losing twice.
In the end, it was an endurance race and God Arm was too old for that
That's one reason why initial d started to fall off stage 4 and beyond. Like stage 4 definitely delivered in some aspects but more and more wins just seemed lucky. The episode, blind attack has the same issue where the pro racer only leaves the best line open for Takumi at the end of the race because of a bird or squirrel or something.
Major spoilers below:
And don't even get me started on the final race. He REALLY should have lost that one, especially after going like 30-0 against other racers. He literally was framed to be the Ryosuke and Shinji was framed to be the new Takumi and he still won.
Sometimes, the best character development comes from a lost. I loved seeing Takumi win over and over when he was the underdog but it got much slower to watch when he was the favored racer and just continued to stomp the noobs and only win a few of the toughest races by luck.
I feel like despite it not being said outright, and aside from when he himself thought he lost to an opponent, Takumi lost a lot when he kept switching between the 86’ and the Subaru. They did a fairly good job of showing how someone with his ability to keep a rock steady pace would feel if they suddenly got into a faster car that was easier to drive while being faster.
I know it’s not perfectly analogous but when I play racing games such as the GT series or Forza I get fairly consistent with one vehicle and when I then race against my ghost with a faster, easier to push to the limits car In faster and create a new ghost. Now back in the old car I have to account for the new, faster pace and try to find ways, places to make up time. This keeps going for quite awhile.
I’m saying this because maybe the point of the back and forth with the two cars was a constant losing streak Takumi had to fight against in his head to become better. I think if one were to break down his character you’d come to the conclusion that a real Takumi would have thought he lost more than he ever won.
In like stage 2-3 he lost to an evo, he lost his girlfriend, and his engine 💀
god hand the most intimidating rival in initial much more intimidating than that little turn in the end that copys takumis car
