Very beautiful. I think, (If I'm not mistaken), that I recognize the rosette from your great instructional rosette jig making video. Is that top "red cedar" maybe? Gorgeous sound plugged/unplugged. Is that the one you installed the L.R. Baggs Anthem pick up system in? I was thinking of putting that in my first build when I get there. (Still building jigs, obtaining more tools, and materials). I had of course heard of 7 string, 8 string, baritone and so on, but never heard or saw one played. Now I get it. I would hope that you will encourage him to put up a few "Performance Videos", so the world can see and hear this gorgeous instrument. Have him include a link to your channel.
@@thepragmaticluthier My mistake. I was just looking at some gold mother of pearl, (which truthfully I didn't know existed), and some white. I would be getting it out of China or Taiwan.
I assume you cut the nut slots so the doubled strings are the same distance above the fingerboard. The same gap between the bottom of the string and the surface of the fingerboard. Is that correct?
Whata voice it has!!
Incredible work 👏 🙌 👌
Thanks a lot 😊
Sounds incredible . My phone certainly doesn't do it justice .
Not to worry. The video was recorded on an iPhone and even though the guitar was plugged in, it was not amplified for the video..

The videos on making rosette tiles were of a rosette different from this one. This rosette is done in Padauk, Dyed Burl and gold mother of pearl.

It would be good to hear it unplugged/amplified. Is that possible?
most of the video was unplugged
I see I didn't look close enough.
All of it was unplugged. The guitar was plugged into a cube monitor but was not turned on. All recording was done with an IPhone 11, noe enhancements.
Beautiful instrument, sounds very good. But what is it? Eight strings, doesn't look like an octave mandolin.
This is an eight string baritone, 12 fret guitar, small jumbo body, 16 1/2" lower bout, 27" scale.
Probably doubled one octave up, but only on the D and G. Baritones are usually tuned in B to B, but otherwise standard tuning.
Sounds good !! Looks good!! Two for two!
