I never played this on the PS2. I heard good things about the game from my brother in law but never got into it. However, I just beat this on HD for PS3. Man this game is FUCKING EPIC! This game draws you in like no other. This game will make u turn off the phone and lock the door!
I have just downloaded it from playstation store today. 1st time I have ever played it and it looks like an absolute work of art and I'm a bit pissed at myself for not buying or even playing the original game back in the day.
For the open minded gamers who enjoy experimental or unique games, Shadows of the Collossus is for you. Team Ico returns with minimalistic-ness in tact. That means no over world enemies, side quests, and destractions. There's beautiful graphics, immense scale, decent controls, lack of many story elements, and The Collossi! For most gamers, they'll see it as boring, stupid, and lacking content. But for the those mentioned at the beginning, you'll a get an experience similar to the game, Journey. You are Wander, a person with a horse named Agro who finds Mono, a girl who has died, and decides to bring her back with help of Dormin. No online multiplayer, because if there was the game would be ruined. The Collossi range from Fortress Size to Animal Size. They also aren't supposed to be seen as monsters, but majestic creatures indicated by the theme played at the end of every battle. Overall, Team Ico does it again, combining Minimalism & Art to create an experience. Similar to Journey. I'd recommend the game for those who like a good experience. Emphasis on EXPERIENCE, its not trying to be like most games. Plus, the music just fantastic. - DarkSoulsJunkie
yeah sounds very boring to me... journey was boring as fuuuuuuuck too... when i think about it, i have never played a more boring game than journey. but to each his own i guess
Mono and Yorda in HD. I said it before and I'll say it again, pure bliss. Thank you for giving us an epic double entendre of awesome before the eventual advent of Last Guardian.
I always thought this was the best looking game ever on ps2, it was also very unique and interesting, is this just a port of the original? I would play it again for sure.
Got the HD Collection a couple of days ago! Loving it! Beated ICO two times, actually playing this right now. Beautiful game. Missed them back on PS2 so, everyone that doesn't have these games should pick up the collection. Btw: For you that didn't know allready, it seems like we'll see the Jak and Daxter Collection soon! Gotta love it!
I used my sword. It kept pointing me into the side of a wall or mountain or something, and I couldn't find my way around it. I have literally thousands of games, and have always considered myself a gamer, but I really couldn't figure this out. I didn't feel like wandering around in an empty wasteland, so I just moved on to the next game.
Killing all 16 colossi is an accomplishment any self respecting gamer should experience. I cheered like a gladiator who had just won my freedom from the ring... Only to find that fate had given me a thumbs down... The ending is beautifully haunting. Even if you don't end up enjoying it, it is an experience that should not be missed.
@progrocker69 That's true, but it's a Capcom series, and ended up on other consoles. Same can be said for the Metal Gear series. Do you consider that a Nintendo franchise?
i thought this was a bit of a poor review considering the game being so awsome.why does undertwo give such a enthusiastic review of a super mario land re-release for the gba,a game that evry one has known and played in there sleep, and such uninspired one for this legendary game that many haven't and need to hear of?.
I never finished this game. I got like half way through it... then couldn't find the next boss. I wandered around for like 2 hours and nothing... I've picked it up like 3 or 4 times over the last few years, used guides, etc, etc, and still can't find the guy, so I gave up.
ok im very confused I heard that shadow came before ico in the story line but he said shadow came second so if I want to follow the story line which should I play first?
Ico and Shadow of the Colossus don't have a story that connect one another. They are two different stories, VERY different. Play Shadow the Colossus since it has much better gameplay than Ico in my opinion.
I thought they weren't connected, but they are SOTC is the prequel to ICO. The story is about the prophecy of the devil king coming back. SOTC starts as him accidentally becoming him, then ICO begins where the tribe from SOTC came and took the boy as he got older to the island and there the same girl is. Now we wait for The Last Guardian.
As far as I'm concerned, this is the best game on the PS2 and one of the best games of all time. Seriously, people who don't think video games can be art need to sit down and play Shadow of the Colossus.
Instead of shaming you and laughing at you I'm just going to urge you to play the game again and give it another go. It is one of my favourite games and the first game to move me to to tears.
@progrocker69 Yeah, I can definitely see your point there. When I was little and I played the Mega Man games, I viewed them as synonymous with the NES. :)
@MrSalmon88 Just got done playing Ico in HD. There are reasons it's held in less regard. The story and style of the game is amazing, sure, but there are elements of the gameplay that are so badly designed. The combat for example, becomes exceedingly frustrating.
I'm apparently really bad at this sort of game :/ I didn;t manage to even beat the first colossus. I'll try again someday but I SUCK at strategy games. I found his weak points but he kept shaking me off. Then I gave up after about 2 hours of trying :(
@TmKmHill All I'm saying is that, since the first several games in the Mega Man series were only on the NES, I would consider that to be its "home" platform. Obviously the only way it would be a true Nintendo franchise is if it were released directly from Nintendo and not a third party.
@sinbysin666 unfortunatley, besides the ps2 age, games arent really flawless anymore, now its all blood guts and 1080p, I know that there is very good games out there today like infamous, metal gear solid 4 (except the fact that it had like 30 minuites of gameplay XD) little big planet and etc.
i actually cant believe that... even if you maybe did not know that your sword can give u the way if you hold it up in sunlight i only can't imagine that you are not able to find the colossus with help of several guides. By the way the sword shows you just the direct way but sometimes you have go around the one or other landmark ^_^ anyways its to bad that u missed one of the best game expierences
Derek would be bitching about the lack of "enemies", the time you have to spend to kill a Colossus... and of course... He would call this "a boring and stupid, Sony Computer Inc. Zelda ripoff"
Actually your sword (when held up to the light) reveals the spot on the Colossia. Only when the light runs across that spot, is it then revealed.
I never played this on the PS2. I heard good things about the game from my brother in law but never got into it. However, I just beat this on HD for PS3. Man this game is FUCKING EPIC! This game draws you in like no other. This game will make u turn off the phone and lock the door!
Never actually played these games until I got the collection on the PS3. Needless to say it's an amazing game.
I have to have this Collection for my PS3, unmissable !
these 2 games are the best experience I got on my PS2 ever.
I have just downloaded it from playstation store today. 1st time I have ever played it and it looks like an absolute work of art and I'm a bit pissed at myself for not buying or even playing the original game back in the day.
+1 to tj for including a bit of a developer interview and a little bit of history regarding the game, great game, great review

A bit to late to put this comment down rightt
yeah sounds very boring to me... journey was boring as fuuuuuuuck too... when i think about it, i have never played a more boring game than journey. but to each his own i guess
You know nothing
Mono and Yorda in HD. I said it before and I'll say it again, pure bliss. Thank you for giving us an epic double entendre of awesome before the eventual advent of Last Guardian.
I hate how they removed the motion blur in the HD remake. I don't know, something about it made the game feel even MORE epic to me.
Maybe it caused motion sickness?
SmashAttack64 Well, the reason they had it was to hide framerate drops on the PS2 but they didn't need to in the HD version.
It is a remaster not remake
I always thought this was the best looking game ever on ps2, it was also very unique and interesting, is this just a port of the original? I would play it again for sure.
To think this was on the PS2 at first as is.
That thing was revolutionary.
Got the HD Collection a couple of days ago! Loving it! Beated ICO two times, actually playing this right now. Beautiful game. Missed them back on PS2 so, everyone that doesn't have these games should pick up the collection.

I want it! Is this a disc or a download?
Tj you are wordsmith love ur reviews
I know - I couldn't figure out how to get where it was pointing. I gave up, though - I haven't tried in several years.
btw, there is an hd remake of fester's quest for pc!
isn't there?
This game was originally for PS2, this is the ICO pack port. Would be nice to clarify in the title.
The title does say it's for the PS3, that's clarification.
@progrocker69 That's true, but it's a Capcom series, and ended up on other consoles. Same can be said for the Metal Gear series. Do you consider that a Nintendo franchise?
@lonewolf1369 yes, meaning the recolection of ICO and this game. this is the port to the ps3.
@agentgamma23
That's the biggest change!:) no lag or framerate problems at all!
Words cannot describe how epic this game is.
i thought this was a bit of a poor review considering the game being so awsome.why does undertwo give such a enthusiastic review of a super mario land re-release for the gba,a game that evry one has known and played in there sleep, and such uninspired one for this legendary game that many haven't and need to hear of?.
By far my favorite and most memorable game of all time.
@MrGuitarfreak102 My bad, I'll try to keep it more quiet for you next time.
it certainly was a big horse
I wish this were on PC :(
Just play it on PCSX2.
Zombifyed I tried 3 years ago =)) but the game lagged really bad and fps always dropped below 20 to the point it's not bearable anymore so I gave up
@@vyquynh5374 5 years later and with today's hardware It should be able to run right?
I missed this game
I never finished this game. I got like half way through it... then couldn't find the next boss. I wandered around for like 2 hours and nothing... I've picked it up like 3 or 4 times over the last few years, used guides, etc, etc, and still can't find the guy, so I gave up.
@MrROTD not just a straight port, it's been HDified
Why didn't you look up a walkthrough???
ok im very confused I heard that shadow came before ico in the story line but he said shadow came second so if I want to follow the story line which should I play first?

BloopinDaThird
The Last Guardian Damn it Sony when will it be out.
I just got this for the PS2. I love it to death!
I got this game for Christmas on PS2 when it first came out. Oh the nastalgia
This made me regret not having a PS2. I AM SO GETTING THIS :D
Have been waiting forever for this. Now i just have to find the time to play :(
I have this game and I love it. I want to play it now. It is so beautiful.
Did anyone else got scared the shit out it everytime the tentacles stabed you even though you already knew they were coming?
It's free right now on Playstation Plus
Derek wouldn't review something like this, because he can't comprehend the fact that flawless games exist outside Nintendo's brand.
The horse in this game is far more advanced, fluid, and realistic than Skyrim's horses.
As far as I'm concerned, this is the best game on the PS2 and one of the best games of all time. Seriously, people who don't think video games can be art need to sit down and play Shadow of the Colossus.
Shadow of the colossus is one of best games I have ever played. Definitely in the top 3.
such a great game, now i miss my ps2 :(
@smashbrosfan25 I know, right. I should do fan fiction or something.
Ironically I'm playing this in HD at the same time. It's also my first time experiencing this game and I have a PS2. I know, sad.
Instead of shaming you and laughing at you I'm just going to urge you to play the game again and give it another go. It is one of my favourite games and the first game to move me to to tears.
Yeah, the game is art but the gameplay is just not.
theres a button with a shiny picture of a red O.
use it... :P
the only game that kinda reminds me of SotC is dragons dogma which is a masterpiece of a game too!
LiangHuBBB no it's not
favorite game of all time :)
where in the game is stated that this girls is his girlfriend?
@progrocker69 Yeah, I can definitely see your point there. When I was little and I played the Mega Man games, I viewed them as synonymous with the NES. :)
God it's so beautiful words can't define
Damn! those clossi´s are even bigger than TJ!
@sinbysin666 he said before he's a huge bioshock fan...
@ARCADDER no i'm pretty sure derek would talk about how this game is art at it's finest
@Newbpwn3r180 Yes, because my comment was such an outcry!
why not get the ps3 collection instead?
Well, yeah. He actually reviews the games.
@MrTURBOJOHN There were two sentences. So, there could only be one contradiction.
@MrSalmon88
Just got done playing Ico in HD. There are reasons it's held in less regard. The story and style of the game is amazing, sure, but there are elements of the gameplay that are so badly designed. The combat for example, becomes exceedingly frustrating.
I'm willing to buy this game but why do people say that is the best game ever ?! i looked into the reviews but never found the answer
@TheUltraDude Thank you.
I'm apparently really bad at this sort of game :/ I didn;t manage to even beat the first colossus. I'll try again someday but I SUCK at strategy games. I found his weak points but he kept shaking me off. Then I gave up after about 2 hours of trying :(
I love this game
Just bought this at 5 and below
@Panzerfaust04 i thought you were going to ignore me
This is actually the best game ever made.
I beat this on ps2 and still own it, so I won't be playing the HD version just yet.
One of the best games ever made. Thats it!
Your reviews are so much better than Dareks
The 3D is nicee
@Newbpwn3r180 Note he said FLAWLESS not great.
Th blood in this game seems more like a gas than actual blood, but it still seems like a great game. I'M GONNA BUY IT!
@lonewolf1369 nvm it's a remake
rip Kevin
What about God of War 3?
@TmKmHill All I'm saying is that, since the first several games in the Mega Man series were only on the NES, I would consider that to be its "home" platform.
Obviously the only way it would be a true Nintendo franchise is if it were released directly from Nintendo and not a third party.
try again its an amazing game or just look up a series of it
yes he is. he's talking about gamers' law here.
why does sony keep porting ps2 games to the PS3 God of war, Sly Cooper, Metal gear Solild and now these
Well I won't say you will be the only one that might soil their pants
@RapDog62 come on I could of sworn Derek at one point said Bioshock was a masterpiece
such a good game...
Only bad thing aboutz this game is the horse controlls
@sinbysin666 unfortunatley, besides the ps2 age, games arent really flawless anymore, now its all blood guts and 1080p, I know that there is very good games out there today like infamous, metal gear solid 4 (except the fact that it had like 30 minuites of gameplay XD) little big planet and etc.
e muito bom
@rob45645 yup
i didn't know you didn't have one and the ps3 isn't 500 dollars
wow their must be 3 colossi who watched this video and disliked it because it was there cousins dying
@TmKmHill The Mega Man series ORIGINATED on the NES.
Otherwise I do agree with your premise.
@TmKmHill most importantly.. nintendo DID NOT make the silent hill series :)
i actually cant believe that... even if you maybe did not know that your sword can give u the way if you hold it up in sunlight i only can't imagine that you are not able to find the colossus with help of several guides. By the way the sword shows you just the direct way but sometimes you have go around the one or other landmark ^_^ anyways its to bad that u missed one of the best game expierences
of course my ps3 breaks the day before this comes out
Derek would be bitching about the lack of "enemies", the time you have to spend to kill a Colossus... and of course... He would call this "a boring and stupid, Sony Computer Inc. Zelda ripoff"
this might be the sole reason for me to buy a....OH WAIT, ill just buy the original game and upscale it to 1080p in pcsx2 :)
*+Devin McCormick* The playstation is like 250 dollars .___.
@TheUltraDude I didn't know he was your boyfriend...
@MrPuddlesTheDog that nick '.'
wow..
