As well as changing filters when I get a new W123 300D I always check the length of the spring inside the fuel return line bolt (17mm & 14mm) on the back of the IP. They tend to get shorter over the years and effect fuel pressure greatly. The spring inside the bolt should be 27mm in length (with the ball bearing, of course).
1982 300SD W126 turbo diesel; doing same today. Dropped fuel tank and had pro cleaned radiator shop. Many times both filters replaced. Now cold start after a month down (that is with both axles replaced and other work); after starts up runs fine well past op temp and driving down road. Next day same thing; hard start. Not fixed yet. 500k miles and counting. Workin' on it. Thank you from Texas
My dumbass fixed a leaking line and didn’t prime it cause it’s my first diesel I didn’t know better now got a knock cause of air and my primer pump is leaking every time I press it down how do I do the starter fluid spray in turbo? Then as cranking press down primer pump till flows out injector lines?

How do you know the prime pump does not work.??
My primer pump didn’t work so I just used starting fluid to make the motor run and pull a prime
Thank you...
