I bought my ’16 Golf R (manual) new in December 2015, adding an APR Stage 1 tune two weeks later at the dealer’s on-site tuner shop. Two years later, I returned to the same tuner shop to add an APR Stage 2 tune complete with all of the recommended support mods along with a Southbend Stage 3 racing clutch. I retired from my job of nearly 50 years in 2019 with 48,000 miles on the clock. Since then, I have added only 16,000 miles (about 3,000 per year). At 8 years of age, the car still runs like new and is crazy fast with torque that feels like a high-displacement V8-powered muscle car from the get-go (those who proclaim that there is no replacement for displacement have never driven one of these). What’s also amazing is that, for this car, I paid the same price one would pay for your average new GTI.
I know what a high-displacement V8 muscle car drives like because I've driven several V8 Mustang (including owning a modified one), a 440 modded Challenger, two Corvettes, and several vintage Fords and Mercuries.
Ive owned my Golf R since 2018, and its a great platform! Great turning ability and easy to get more HP. the AWD is a plus especially when you daily drive where you have winter! My Golf R has been the best car ived owned since i have had my licence! I have no regrets with it!
Thanks for the compliment on age, I'll be 79 in 1 1/2 months, driving a Stage II GTI and other engine mods with a very well sorted suspension. There's nothing wrong with GTI's either.
@@tredfxman Since I had the APR Tune, we did the DSG. Getting ready to put a Clubsport 'S' muffler on.👍 My last 2016 GTI(2 door) made just shy of 400whp with the IS38. That car was setup for road course driving.
@@muskcoder6367 Awesome! Ithink im just at 370,380 hp just on Stage 1. But i like the car so much, so rather just keep it to last. Otherwise Revo here in europe shod be a hardcore tune. The BSR tune from Sweden were i live came engine & machine warranty so i trust they are careful & know their stuff. Also have a device PPC were you can tune & detune whenever you like. Do it sometimes if thers a real cold winter. Do APR alwo have a tune/de tune device btw?
@@tredfxman Not that I know of. I work for a VW/Audi fabrication and tuning business. They offer APR tuning only and I asked that same question to the owner. He said not yet, but it's possible they are working on one since other tuning companies offer it.
I love my 7.5 R, stage 2 with b16 coil overs, 034 camster mounts and end links, also ball joints as well as whiteline lca and it feels like a different car. Don't think i could ever sell it
Hi y’all from across the pond. . had my 7.5R for over 6 years and it hasn’t missed a beat, it’s a great car and still loving it 👌 . .Old England Pete 😎
2015 GTI performance just bought it and about to do stage 2 galano tune here in aus should be sweet with the mods and tune they have a good reputation with these platform's.
I bought a used mk7.5R 26k on the odo, launched the car three times and the mechatronics unit took a dump. Maybe the owner before me launched tf out of it. Idk. But from what I read the dq381s mechatronics unit is prone to fail. Luckily my car is still under warranty. Got a brand new transmission, dodged an $8200 bullet ☠️💀

Hey man might be a little bit late to it but it's odb2 not odb11. They use roman numerals. 4:50
☝🏻🤓
@grantgarcia3187 OBDEleven is an app that allows you to make VCDS changes bro.
The golf R really is a performance bargain. I have an S3 and prioritized the interior space. The MQB is an amazing platform
With a few mods and a tune those Golf R's are rockets 🚀🚀

I just picked up a 19 lapiz blue with 13kmiles
In the process of buying a 2019 R 6spd with 29K, very excited....

Truly love my R 7.5....Even the sound system has improved with some hours on it.
How have you gotten 0-60 in 3.5, that’s insane, what have you done to the car
Hey man how long do you let your golf warm up before you start driving?
45 seconds usually. Then take it easy until oil temps hit 180F.
"if you R in the market for this car..." 😄
Hey I just got my 2018 r in manual. Do you also have issues with easy rock chips on the front bumper?
What is the average life span of dsg dq381 clutch ?
Unsure. But at 63k miles, she drives like new still.
