You are correct about the apple CarPlay and my Fault for not disclosing in the video 2015 model uses the mib1 infotainment and in 2016 it changes to mib2. The performance gauges I know of people updating the firmware in their infotainment which gives you the performance gauges as an option
The armrest hight is adjustable about 3-4 positions if you take it all the way up it resets, with holding the key on lock you can close your open windows and vice versa,if you hold the shifting pad + for 2s you go automatically to Manual/pad shifting without having to touch your Gearbox!
For the performance monitor, you can also go to car and then the selection button at the bottom. Then choose performance. Boost pressure reads ambient plus boost. So you need to subtract ambient from it for an accurate reading. Personally I don’t use any of them except boost (for fun, not for accurate reading) and g force meter. I have my oil temp on the center dash screen and coolant on the gauge on the dash. I like how you say this infotainment is “older”. When I first saw it when I bought my car, I felt like it was super new age! My newest vehicle before my ‘17 GTI was a 2012 Ford. I swapped my radio for a pioneer touch screen unit. Still not as nice as this infotainment, imo. Audio wise it was great, but the UI on the pioneer felt dated. I guess compared to new cars, this infotainment is a little dated, but overall I feel like it’s aged well. It does everything it needs to do! First car I’ve owned that I won’t be swapping the radio on. UI doesn’t matter to much tho, since I almost always use Apple CarPlay. Speaking of that, does anyone else have issues where audio won’t work via CarPlay for like 10-15 minutes sometimes? I’m thinking it’s my phone cause it’s buggy as hell, and I had occasional issues on my old radio too, but not identical problems. Just want to see if it’s the car or the phone.
I have experienced the issue with carplay not working I believe it is due to being plugged in to charge while connected to bluetooth Try unplugging it and see if it helps
Looks like you covered most of it. I have the 2020 SE gti. I was wondering about the key fob unlock/lock special functions. I know that my 2014 SEL Jetta had the cool feature for the windows and sunroof to open/close by using the key in the door lock. But what about keyless by just holding the lock/unlock buttons?
By default, the key fob doesn't have the option to roll up or down windows, but this can be programmed using an OBDeleven (there's plenty of tutorials out there). However, you can roll up all the windows by tapping and holding the lock button on the door handle and if you have any windows open (not sure about the sunroof), it will close all the windows and once its done, it'll give you a little hoot and you can let go of the handle.
0:32 ive had that compartment in my gti and tdi. I was actually super bummed when my golf r didn't have it because it had a lock on it and was perfect for my blaster
I had a golf with the compartment under the drivers seat previously, but i prefer without. I sometimes put sandals or hiking shoes under there if I want driving shoes on Coolant temp is already a physical gauge on the dashboard, and you can set the dashboard center screen to oil temp. I don't think boost pressure in the performance monitor is accurate either. G-meter is interesting, but only a passenger could really look at it during any type of extreme G driving The most secret feature is the all-windows up/down from the keyfob, because it never works and there's some secret way you need to prove to the computer that the windows are calibrated after any disconnect of the battery. I used to have this feature when using a physical key on an older model and I used it almost every time I drove in good weather
The way to calibrate the windows is to press the switch so they go all the way down and then hold it for 5 seconds then pull the switch so they go up and again hold it for 5 seconds and release and they should be set.
There is a Noise Reduction Grid in the Airfilter Box. Get rid of it and close with some heatresistand Tape the Airentrance to the little Chamber on the top left side. Now you have way more Airflow Sound.😉

Playing music from your phone will not work when turning on car stereo with no key, I was disappointed about that. And it times out after 30 minutes I believe. But can hit power button on stereo to keep listening. This was on my 2015 Golf sportwagen TDI so could be different for 2016 GTI

When I’m driving and hit bumps or like uneven road, you can hear it’s creaking inside. But it goes away if I’m driving for a long time. I’m not sure where it’s coming from, it’s sounds like in the door seal or something. It’s really annoying. Do you have the same problem?
I can’t lie the one massively annoying thing is these cars have some weird rattles man it sucks. Even my s3 has random creaks and rattles here and there by the sun visors. My gti sometimes when I’m pushing it hard has a small rattle by the center console lol. Unfortunately these cars are a bit creaky ..
Check your rear seats... Mine was making a crazy creak, which sounded like a strut or something. It was my rear passenger seat clip mechanism. You can test it by pushing your rear seat forward and driving around. And my fix was to wrap some electrical tape around the clip mount. Best of luck to you.
The Autobahn edition has electric motors and controls for the driver's seat, and therefore does not have the small storage tray under the driver's seat. I believe the MK 7.5's no longer have the storage tray under manual driver's seat

Yes, there’s a button on the roof console that you push and the lights will come on when you open the door! I know this is silly, but that is such an important feature I need! I figured this out last night-I bought my GTI yesterday!
So if you have a base model where you need to turn a key you can’t but if you have push to start you can activate the feature to lock the car while it’s running through obd11

this came in handy. i’m going to a dealer on tuesday to look at a 2015 gti (se). nice to know what kind of “quirks & features” it has, incase i buy it.
I hope you got your new Baby! I have a 2015 GTI Autobhan and I love it. I can't wait to modify her! (Gia)
@@nazz2406 i ended up getting a 2016 with 26k miles. absolutely love the car.
@@b58.souprahow’s it held up? Looking at a 2016 myself
@@zymxz fbo e85 for roughly 20k miles and the cars had 0 issues. just be sure to do your maintenance especially if you plan to mod. spark plugs especially because for some reason, these cars eat them.
@@b58.soupra what did you have to do to get it to run e85? I’m looking at one that’s been maintained 2016 with 93k 1 owner and it’s stock still, will slowly mod it but I also want it to last a while
The light strip on the door panel is also on the interior running board too. Also, the Wiper thing goes back to 90s Jetta owners. I was freaking out thinking there was something wrong with my wipers until the Dealer told me that it's done on purpose.
You need to do the 7.5 big screen conversion bro . So much nicer and cleans up the infotainment
How hard is it to do? Plug and play (with coding from OBDELEVEN)? Or maybe even just plug and play?
This is on my purchase list for this car hopefully soon
From what I know it’s plug and play with 0 coding to do
In the trunk there’s an area for a safety cone for break downs etc
Really??? I’ll look for that! Which area? Like on the hatch? Or a compartment?
@@DArias on the hatch. It’s a little panel with a knob that you turn to release it, and it hinges open. U.S. models don’t come with the safety cone afaik. I got mine used and it didn’t have it, but had everything else. So I’m assuming we don’t get it.
@@DArias So on my Golf that little panel is actually a hidden place for your key. You twist the knob, pull the panel up, and you can slide your key in the slot to the side and it opens the hatch as long as you push on it from inside
been driving my MK7 for 8 years and I learned a few things still. Nice, you earned a sub.
the rest arms in the trunk for the floor when you lift it to get to the spare tire and sub is one thing I never knew... used my head to always hold it up. Ha
I've a 2015 s. Pressing the car button twice doesn't do anything, is it just my model?
I had no idea of the boost gauges, even tho I already have a Pv3 gauge in the Left air vent this feature is sick I’m going to try it, I hope no difference I have the same Gen mines just leather keyless start
So im not sure if this is only certain models but to add to someone elses comments if you get out with all the windows down and the sunroof open holding the lock but on the door handle will put up all the windows and when you go to unlock the car if you open the driver door and hold down the driver window button all the windows will also open back up too ☺️
Great video as always bro. Keep up the info
Thank you!
On my MK 7 golf autobahn, I have the secrecies compartment under the drivers seat, you can buy one for the passenger seat if not fully power. My ration os on a timer, it will shut off in about five minutes saving battery. The little ho,e in door storage is not always evident but there.
I don’t believe my 15 mk7 has Apple Car Play or a performance/ boost gauge avail in infotainment system? I think it is exclusive to 2016 and up?
You are correct about the apple CarPlay and my Fault for not disclosing in the video 2015 model uses the mib1 infotainment and in 2016 it changes to mib2. The performance gauges I know of people updating the firmware in their infotainment which gives you the performance gauges as an option
That’s cool, do you know what the process is for updating the firmware? I appreciate your response and video.
The armrest hight is adjustable about 3-4 positions if you take it all the way up it resets, with holding the key on lock you can close your open windows and vice versa,if you hold the shifting pad + for 2s you go automatically to Manual/pad shifting without having to touch your Gearbox!
Wow, so many Easter eggs. I thought I knew my car.
Just want to see if it’s the car or the phone.
a
I have experienced the issue with carplay not working
I believe it is due to being plugged in to charge while connected to bluetooth
Try unplugging it and see if it helps
Looks like you covered most of it. I have the 2020 SE gti. I was wondering about the key fob unlock/lock special functions. I know that my 2014 SEL Jetta had the cool feature for the windows and sunroof to open/close by using the key in the door lock. But what about keyless by just holding the lock/unlock buttons?
By default, the key fob doesn't have the option to roll up or down windows, but this can be programmed using an OBDeleven (there's plenty of tutorials out there).
However, you can roll up all the windows by tapping and holding the lock button on the door handle and if you have any windows open (not sure about the sunroof), it will close all the windows and once its done, it'll give you a little hoot and you can let go of the handle.
mine doesnt have a "performance monitor" when pressing car multiple times. am i doing something wrong?? 2015 gti manual
Love the video bro. Showed a lot for us
Glad to hear!
0:32 ive had that compartment in my gti and tdi. I was actually super bummed when my golf r didn't have it because it had a lock on it and was perfect for my blaster
I had a golf with the compartment under the drivers seat previously, but i prefer without. I sometimes put sandals or hiking shoes under there if I want driving shoes on
Coolant temp is already a physical gauge on the dashboard, and you can set the dashboard center screen to oil temp. I don't think boost pressure in the performance monitor is accurate either. G-meter is interesting, but only a passenger could really look at it during any type of extreme G driving
The most secret feature is the all-windows up/down from the keyfob, because it never works and there's some secret way you need to prove to the computer that the windows are calibrated after any disconnect of the battery.
Found the under seat compartment by accident. Was happily surprised by that! :)
Glad to hear it!
My Secret little stash box💀
My 2017 SE has the secret seat compartment.😊
Good to store stuff!
I have a 2015 GTI S and my display does not allow me to press “car” and see the performance gauges. Not sure how you did that but you must have installed something aftermarket…it does NOT work.
Playing music from your phone will not work when turning on car stereo with no key, I was disappointed about that. And it times out after 30 minutes I believe. But can hit power button on stereo to keep listening. This was on my 2015 Golf sportwagen TDI so could be different for 2016 GTI
You’re absolutely right about that and my mistake for not fully clarifying that radio will work but using Bluetooth for example would not work if not in at least accessory mode. Also I would LOVE an Mk7 sportwagen TDI must be nice!
What about if it’s wired in for CarPlay or android auto?
And maybe someone else can help me with this but do the turn signals blink a certain way or was that modified. I was following my son while he was driving (after just buying it) and I notice the turn signals blink "side to side." When you turn on the Hazard Signals, it's kind of a cool light show. Can someone confirm if that is stock or did someone modify it?
It’s called “urban joke” and is a lighting setting you can set with OBDELEVEN.
@@talan2093 Cool. Thanks for the info. You don't catch these things unless you're following your own car. Debating in selling my Challenger and get one for me. But I like the "R". Isn't that AWD?
Holding the lock button on your key when your car is turned off will raise all windows for you
CarPlay only became standard after build week 52. Everything with build code week 51 or earlier will have an MQB instead of MIB unit
If I upgrade the radio in the 7.5 radio , will I lose the features
Headlight cleaner
Another hidden feature on mine was underbody rust. Mostly superficial but nasty looking and becoming a potential problem in some areas. So I have spent a few hours of spare time underneath mine recently fixing it.
Nice video
Great video bro
Thanks man!
What year and trim was this?
Bro, i have a specific question about ur GTI. Iam from and i know that US cars are diferent than EU cars. My question is, If you US GTi has another 4 injectors in intake to to prevent from carbonization as EU cars. Please let me know ... thanks
No
US spec cars do not have port injection from the factory(which sucks for us) EU is super lucky lol strap on a hybrid and LPFP and good to go
@@DArias thanks
My phone still speaks to me however it now stopped responding to my voice? My mechanic says it’s the mic?
Does this work on a 2015 gti s
If you have the Fender system it wont have the compartment under the seat , there’s a subwoofer there
I have the fender system on my Autobahn and I have the seat cubby 😂
My subwoofer is in the trunk, but I beleive there is an amplifier under drivers seat.... was in my 2017 Sportwagen too... also with Fender audio.
@FLYCRAYON did you get the optioned base plaid seats? The top trim leather electric adjustable seats have the electric motors underneath it and there's no room for the cubby. I was so sad when I found out I couldn't get it
No, totally inaccurate. The fender sub goes the same place the Helix sub goes, they flipped the spare tire upside down and it drops right into the spare tire wheel under the boot load floor in the back
Does anyone know how to delete the phones added to connect to them i just bought mine used and it had many added
Go into Bluetooth settings under phone and delete previously paired devices

Does yours have the mib2 unit with apple CarPlay etc? Should have the gauges if you have an mib2 unless maybe you have a very early production 16 where it’s still mib1
Will my galaxy23 hook up to it radio
I’m trying to go to the boost menu but it’s not working
Just bought a 2015 GTI S and I’m pretty sure the 2015 does not have the performance gauge screen
Is the strip on the dash supposed to light up like the light strips on the doors
Nope
I’d guess most of these aren’t secret for anyone that has eyeballs or indeed hands.
Unfortunately all my viewers have no eyeballs or hands ☹️
LOL
Is it just me or the audio quality drops dramatically when using Apple Car Play? As an audiophile this breaks my heart.
does the back doors have the strip red light. i have the same gti s.
The rear does not only fronts
2015 MK7 doesn’t have Apple car play, starting 2016 it does
Correct my fault for not mentioning it in the video. I put it in the description when I uploaded but I know a lot of people don’t read descriptions lol
Almost none of these are in the S model Mk7.5. No drawer under front seat, no ac inside glove box (also no lock on glovebox), and no performance monitor
so that only actual hidden feature in the list is the compartment under the driver seat :l which i don't have because autobahn...
No glove box cooling knob, and no secret compartment tray under seat on my Autobahn. (mk7.5, 2020 GTI Autobahn)
they did some cost cutting on the 7.5 from like a small features POV. I think they took away the felt lined glovebox also, the batter wasnt covered anymore, and that fire protector attached to the hood( thats what I was told at least) is gone as well as they took out the hexagonal plastic to just piano black
the manual gtis rly get the shit end of the stick cuz mine has almost none of these. it doesn’t even come with a usb port its some sorta media port and it doesn’t have an owners manual either
I have a manual 2017 GTI SE, and except for the compartment under the seat- I have all of those features. But thats because the SE has power seats.
My pistol is under the seat compartment.
Yep.same
What is your roof rack setup?
Oem roof racks with a Thule evolution xl cargo box
Thanks about the CarPlay 😅idn that
Hey man! I have the same car, it’s 2021 mk7.5 gti. It only has 11,400 mileage but there’s a creaking noise inside the car already.
Could be struts/springs. Mine does it. My wife has the same car hers doesn’t. Interior and exterior rattles are normal for these cars.
Common on all golfs I'm afraid. Had a 2014 diesel that did it and now have a 2015 r model that does it
Look for that on forums, it can be fixed by applying a Teflon spray to the area where the window seals up with the door
Yep, makes sense
2015 didn’t come standard with Apple CarPlay
You’re correct, it’s my fault not disclosing the mib1 on the 15s I did put it in the description of the video but I do understand many people do not read descriptions
Can’t find those gauges on my mk7 2015😢
same for 7.5?
Autobhan does not have seat compartment unfortunately
Unfortunately true yes
My Autobahn does lol
So what do you keep in that compartment ? 👀
Lol for now nothing not sure what I’ll be using it for 🤷🏽♂️
The secret storage compartment under the seat is not secret anymore. 🙄
Get video, thank you! I just bought a 2015 Golf S and noticed the overhead led lights don't come on when I unlock and open the doors, though the ambient lighting does.
Is there a setting that I'm missing that turns this function on?
Yes, there’s a button on the roof console that you push and the lights will come on when you open the door! I know this is silly, but that is such an important feature I need! I figured this out last night-I bought my GTI yesterday!
@tylerbryant5425 congrats on the purchase! We love our Golf. I did figure out the button though. 😄
there is something like this 🛣️ that turns red when the car is stepping on the Barrier line but whn not its turns green ,, it's control starring
Pretty sure that’s only on the autobahn trim
so basically you read the user manual?
Sure did!
Got one for ya, the 2018 autobahn has a self parking feature parallel or back up parking a button on the right side of the stick shift.
Disappointed they don't have an oil pressure guage.
how to close the mirror??
I have a 2019 gti and i dont get performance guages does anyone know how to get them?
Mine can't found performance gauge....
I have the autobahn ed it does have compartment underseat
Nope
How do you lock the car while running?
So if you have a base model where you need to turn a key you can’t but if you have push to start you can activate the feature to lock the car while it’s running through obd11
is this the 2013 mk7
A GTI is not a commercial vehicle 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
