The HC-V785 is a very good camera. Expect to have to buy an auxiliary microphone if you do outside videos. You will need a fuzzy cover for that mic as well. Also, once the mic is plugged in, the lcd screen door will not close with the mic plugged in. The screen is just as bad as every other camcorder flip out screen in outdoor work. You will barely be able to see anything in bright sunlight. But that is common with any lcd screen on any camcorder. The only way to get around that is to get a camcorder with an eye viewfinder on the back of it, as well as the flip out screen, and that jacks up the price of the camcorder quite a bit. But if you just want to record some indoor stuff and some family fun outdoors., the Panasonic HC-V785 is a good camera that can be had on sale many places now. The thing is very well built too. It does not feel like a cheap piece of trash. The patch cable loads up to a computer fast as well if you don't want to rip out the SD chip after every recording which I actually recommend you don't, These SD chips are fragile. Best to just leave the chip in and use the patch cable if you can stand it. Good camera if you don't have one right now.

What is the battery backup please
Listen up....,the V785 is perfect for my application,specifically hi speed recording @ 60,120 and 240 frames per second,not too mention all at 1080HD.You see,I video document UAP activity in and around Chicago O'Hare airport. It has proven indispensable in my ongoing quest,and cured me of any skepticism. This camcorder is fantastic.
I just bought one today. Came to RUclips to educate myself on this cam. Great video. However I did question my purchase when I saw the caption at 7:32

how does ist compare to its predecessor V777? It looks almost the same and the specs are also quite the same. But there are 7 years in between. So what has improved?
Bought the camera back in April and finally got to use it properly for our last two videos. Still trying to workout the brst settings for day and not ght as this camera.has so many features 😱

Hi, i do RUclips golf. Currently filming with an iPhone, i desire the zoom to get my shots from far away. But im in between this model and the 4k version. My videos are 25+ min long so the 4k is scaring me on the rendering, space and time portion. Any suggestions would be great!

Nice review. I have been doing vids from an iphone6 and is just Ok and looking to stop using a phone and upgrade to the next level with optical zoom.
This one I think is a few levels up from what I need.
Would you have a recommendation from your experiance?
If you get it. I recommend getting the battery charger and extra batteries link in description. Since ur coming from a iphone 6 you'll see a big improvement.

Thanks for the review. I’m specifically looking for a camera to set up on a tripod and record surfing. A friend has the HCV180 and that has a wicked zoom and does an awesome job. The surf is probably about 200m from where I’d set up the camera. The HCV385 is still available in NZ and from what I can tell has similar zoom to the HCV180. The HCV180 Is no longer available. The V785 is still available too, I’m wondering what you think would be a better option? The 385 or the 785? Or the Sony I’ve seen you recommend in other comments?

Hello! Just purchased the Panasonic HC-V785; purchased a SD 128GB extreme plus, which is compatible (I was told) however the camera states there’s Check card with a red flashing card with a slash through it….with the card inserted. Do I have the incorrect SD card?
make sure its inserted correctly then try formatting the card in the camera menu. if it still happening try a different card
unfortunately i dont understand much about camcorders, i got a question, does the cam recognizes noises does it record also the noises or is it recording without noise the videos?
Depends if someone is talking over the noise and how far away the source of the noise is. But most times it just automatically adjusts the volume of the mic if it's too loud
Hi there Dark master, I have a chance of buying this at a very good price off Ebay, but I am wondering if this will necessarily be an upgrade from the hc v380 which I currently own.... I like the idea of being able to plug in a mic too, but if that is the only advantage, then I'm not that sure that it would be a good purchase?

Is the scroll wheel smooth when scrolling both ways ? I just gone and whenever I scroll up trying to move up in the manual menu I get a clicking noise with a bit of resistance. It’s completely smooth and quiet when going the opposite direction.
I just checked mines. It's supposed to be smooth in both directions

Looks better than the Sony fdr ax53 if all you want is 1080p 60 , this camera looks like it has better colors and is a little wider as well .all for a cheaper price

Yes it should be great for that. The internal mic is good 5.1 surround sound.

I noticed that when i viewed the Sony cx 675 that it the quality changes compared to this panasonic.When this Panasonic records you can see no grain or blur when recording.Not many camcorders have good quality when it comes to recording.I want to get everyones comment on this.Should i get this camcorder or the Sony Cx 675.The recordings are different in quality.
U can't find a new Sony HDRCX675 thou they aren't being made anymore cannon had some good camcorders for the price but they they aren't being made anymore too. If u can find the Sony camcorder buy it

It gives u a hot shoe on ur camera so u can mount a better mic or mount a light on the camera itself

@@davidberry9107 Yes, it is a clean feed, but you have to change some settings on the camcorder for it to be fully clean.
@davidberry9107 Also, whenever you start/stop recording on the camcorder (even after you set the feed to a clean mode), a brief stop/start pop up will appear on the feed for a few seconds (I am not sure whether this pop up can be disabled).
3 Questions:
1) What is the longest recording time on the HC-V785? I do interviews that may be 1-2 hours long. Will I be able to do that with this camera?
2) Can to transfer the video easily onto my computer using the USB cord? and are the files MP4 and easy to edit?
3) Does the camera make a new file every time I stop & start the camera?

@@flixqtt get the Panasonic. Also get the extra batteries and charger in the description. Or else you'll be stuck charging the battery on the camera

s23u is better but the battery goes down fast I have a panasonic ful hd 1080p it lasted the full trip the other month when I went to London and managed to film the video i needed. my s23u was on 10% when got back. the cam has 2 battery

Panasonic hc v385 has 50 optical zoom
And this v785 has only 20 optical zoom,
I am a train spotter so i need a good quality in zoom video, so which camcorder will be best for me? And if you will tell me to buy this v785 then why not v385??
Panasonic HC-V380K looks good on paper it definitely looks like it got better zoom. And if that's what u need u should get it. The main reason I got the 785 is because it has a mic input. The 380 ain't got that.

Hi , i am a hobby stand up comedy artist. Mostly the performances happen in low light areas like bar or restaurant. I am shooting with my phone but in low light and zoom , the quality is ok to good . So looking for something in this range. (This one costs around 350 euro in Germany where I live now). My plan is to have something like this with a wireless microphone ( i will need microphone which has receiver as this has only 3.5mm jack). I liked when you zoomed to the tree and the quality remained the same. Would you recommend this one or any other camcorder or camera or compact camera for this particular use ?
This would work for your use case. And this is the cheapest camcorder with a mic jack
