Love to sing Layne stuff. It's a perfect practice to control the "dirt" on the voice. guys, don't break your vocal cords. If the distortion hurts, then you're not making it properly.
BTW..... Everyone who's beating themselves up on this one..... Just warm up... sing as high and as low as you can... get your octave range.... make sure your vocal chords are ready.... and just go for it!

No, you don't... What is throwing you off is that the lyrics of the song are actually impossible to sing acoustically for some voices. So you have to find the vowel that works best on a particular note as the original vowel, and it won't look anything like actual words but will sound right on high pitches. It's a bit weird, but it will free up your entire upper range with practice. I like to think of it as being like "singing with an accent". Once you figure out what those notes are, you make a key so that you can quickly find the vowel to substitute for the original one. Eventually, you won't have to refer to it as much because your vocal tract will gain muscle memory and eventually won't even think about modifying vowels- it will just happen automatically.

@@into.the.wood.chipper. Bro... I am completely with you... I know music. I used to play the violin, and was trained classically. Yet, I never was a choir nerd. But, until, I had the right teacher to bring it out of me.
It is entirely possible. I'm not saying everyone has the talent, or ability... However, some do for sure, I was one of them....
Train. Stretch. Do scales. Go as high and as low as you can.... Don't hurt your vocal chords, but stretch them, and you might just be surprised just how much you can sing, and in octaves, and high and low notes you might never thought you may have hit.
So, just TRY, and you might just succeed!

I got it...the hardest thing for me isn't hiting the high notes its the distortion that's so hard you have to have a lot of control dude. In later years his distortion kinda got sloppy. probly from smoking shit.still greatest rock and roll singer ever. r I p layne.plus all the touring they did.
