Ernesto first off all, thanks for making the video. Tutorials as this helps many people as they venture into this path.
I also have a Summer Waves (SW) 16' X 48" as yours. I bought it at the beginning of the COVID19 situation. I've learned a lot about these pools and have made many modifications to improve the maintenance and water quality as well. If you don't mind, I would like to share it with everyone on here.
    1) I realized that pools need to be vacuumed periodically, since pumps don't do everything by themselves and I ran into my first dilemma. I wanted an automatic vacuum system that works well for these pools and it turns out that it is almost impossible. The automatic vacuums that are electric are extremely expensive and the simple ones that uses suction from the pump, won't work since the "SW" pump (SFX1500) is too weak to make it work. So I opted to the simple but laborious option of doing it by hand, so I bought the following: A 10' pool extension pole, weighted vacuum head, 1.25" X 18' vacuum hose and vacuum plate adapter to fit the "SW" skimmer. It worked really well and it clarified the water but I quickly realized that these canister filters are a joke. Between replacing them every other day, cleaning them and not filtering well, it got old quick which led me to my second upgrade.
    2) A sand filtration unit & pump is a must to simplify your maintenance & improve water quality. I opted on buying the 2800gph Krystal Clear Sand Filter Pump by Intex, but they're not easy to find, since this pandemic has affected almost everything. I managed to find a new unit on Ebay for $340. Like your smaller cartridge filter, to make these pumps work, you'll need adapters and some knowledge on the basics. These will allow me to use the Intex quick attach screw type connectors on the hoses that came with the Intex pump and attach them to my "SW" skimmer housing. My pump came with the "Hydro Aeration inlet nozzle" as well so the hose directly attaches to it. I also opted the remove the factory "SW" skimmer pump motor from the skimmer housing, this improves the function of the new pump by easing the flow. I bought a conversion seal plate @ Amazon to replace the pump motor and keep a tight seal on the bottom of the factory "SW" skimmer housing.
    3) Plunger valves. I bought a set of the Intex Plunger Valves model# 25010. This was an upgrade to improve on maintenance. They directly hook up the inlet nozzle that came with the new pump and to the adapter that I installed on the "SW" skimmer housing. This allows me to shut the water flow from the pool to the pump when cleaning the new skimmer basket and maintain the sand filter. After it's all said and done, this upgrade is definitely a must and that I'm glad I did. I spend less time working for the pool and more time enjoying it. The water quality has improved dramatically as well and there's more good news. The new pump has a lot more power now which means, that I can run an affordable automatic vacuum running on the pump's suction.
    4) Automatic vacuum. Arriving this Friday is a vacuum I bought @ Amazon for $84 which should work on my setup. Supposedly this vacuum needs a 1600gph system to work and the new Intex pump has a flow rate of 2150gph. Running by itself twice a week should keep the water cristal clear and the best part is that I won't need to do it manually.
Enjoy your pools and if anyone needs further information or details in the items I bought, feel free to reply and I'll do my best.

I added the intex c1500 pump to my summer waves pool. Now, do I have to run the filter and the pump? Or just the pump?

Question, since the valves weren't included is the adapter a substitute for those or do we still purchase the valves and adapters?

You don’t have to purchase any additional valves or adapters thankfully.

@ Irene Torres, Yes, I believe you do...
Summer waves hoses are 1.25", Intex pumps/ filters are 1.5" (with screw type quick connector).
Intex sells these adapters/couplers allowing you to use the Intex screw type hoses, on to the Summer Waves slip/clamp type inlets and outlets: Intex Hose Conversion Adapter B Kit (pair) Replacement Part Model # 25009.
      $12 @ Amazon.

The plunger valves are not really necessary but they do make life easier, by not allowing water flowing into the pump when changing cartridges.

The difference in price might catch you later from buying cartridges filter every so often than having a sand filter and not to worry about 2-3years and easy to clean with all the flush out feature.
