  • The Honda Civic Type R is the most powerful Civic ever, but is that the only reason why it costs more than $10k over the Honda Civic Si. In this review I will breakdown the features of the 2019 Civic Si and show where the 2019 Honda Civic Type R garners the higher asking price. Find out all the details in this epic review!

I agree about the exhaust on the Type R being too docile. I ended up swapping the OEM one to an HKS Legamax and I wish it sounded like this from the factory. I'll take my chances with the warranty, but I can definitely understand anyone who says the Type R doesn't sound. It DOES sound... only inside. Outside is mostly wind noise it seems.

If it was an actual $10,000 difference I might have bought a Type R instead of the Si. As it stands, dealers regularly mark it up an additional $5,000 to $10,000. It’s definitely not worth a $15,000-$20,000 difference, especially when you can get Si’s brand new for around $22,000.

Yesterday I took delivery of a 2019 pearl white Honda Civic SI sedan, and it puts a smile on my face!!! They had a battleship gray Type R in the showroom. It had a markup of $10,000.00 !!!!! That’s ridiculous, to buy it you would have to shovel out $47,000.00 + tax and everything else, so its a over a $50,000.00 civic. The salesmen stated they only get 1-2 Type R’s a year from Honda and don’t even pick out the color. You can buy 2 Civic SI’s for the price of the Type R. I’m not bashing the Type R but the SI is all I need and more. Also the SI is a better daily driver in my opinion. Great video Joe !!!!

i will say this I used to own a VW golf gti mk6 2012. Going to a honda civic si I felt like I lost nothing but gained a little more horse power. I love how the front and back end looks and is very roomy compare it to a hatch back. I will say that both cars are better built than their competitors especially vw. American and European cars are just not quite there and are endless money pits. Anyhow I bought the 2019 civic si was more in my affordability range.. The type R if you like to put your money you're mouth is than get a type r.. Si is more affordable plus you can always take type R parts and change them out on the SI. That's how it worked with my vw gti to golf r mods. I only recommend modding you're shit when you pay the bank off. The Si it can haul some serious ass for a 1.5 plus the exhaust is louder makes you feel like you are driving a high performance vehicle. Si always has better gas mileage compared to its big brother. I am very happy with my SI it gets people hating and jealous lol

I think the desire for a volume control knob is not to "finely tune" the sound system, it's ergonomics. A volume KNOB can quickly be found, it's easy to adjust quickly up or down. Rather than having to hold down some rocker button on the steering wheel or having to remove your eyes from the road to find/fiddle with some screen, which is an added distraction. Yeah, it's a small thing but look at what Honda did, they responded to popular demand and brought it back. Some controls should be easy to find, intuitive, and not screen-based.

    A couple reasons:
    1. It's the hatchback body which costs way more than the coupe or the sedan variants
    2. Bodykit, brembos, sport tuned suspension
    3. 2liter boosted four banger making 320 hp in s relatively light weight car.
    4. Beautiful interior which rivals that of the s200's
    5. It's fully loaded track car that beat many cars at the one track I can't pronounce. Nurburgring.
In my opinion this justifies a 40-50k price tag.

In my region the Civic R is $19,000 CAD more than the Civic Si which includes the taxes and loan interest). Pretty crazy. Buy the Si, invest the $19K saved and in five years the Si is paid off and your $19k has increased to $30k. 😊
