    Cost of living is probably #1 question people ask about living in Thailand. My answer is always, "depends on your standard of living". There's no one size fits all answer. Totally agree, cash flow is key.

      Quite doable if you're single, cook your own meals, and don't drink or bar hop. Otherwise you're correct, 1500 would be way too low.

      The difference is, you can get a job in America if you need money, you have very little chance of getting a decent job without a degree or ability to sell, then there is the cost of forming a company for a work permit, the intricacies of living in thailand is glossed over without getting into actual costs to live a western standard of living. Or trying to negotiate every Nicole and dime for a simple service or product which is just more work, I’ve seen too many broke ass expat playboy wannabes get their ass handed I them by believing unrealistic costs of existing videos. You can only hit the beaches so often before it’s no longer a benefit, then no money what do I do now? To learn a lot of things watching a video, then remembering then at the moment you need it is different. Remember, if it’s too good to be true, it might be. I appreciate these informative videos but I also don’t wanna see another down on his luck westerner pimp.

    I'm from Canada and I was there in 2015 for 4 months. I'm sure times have changed and prices have changed but my guess from personal experience would be $2000-3000 CAD which is roughly $1500-2200 USD.
    During my stay I was all over S.E Asia, partying non stop and splitting accommodation costs with a friend. Now that im a bit older and more mature I think the costs would equal out if you were being a bit more tame.

      As a Thai people, I used to rent monthly apartment in BKK cost me about 150-300USD per month with 6-12 month contracts (Ladpraow, not in tourists area for staying and working in Asoke area). That cost about 10usd per day with a good clean room with AC and separate toilet, and free Wi-Fi). And living cost including food and transportation can be 10usd per day with good food as same as local people can have them. If you plan to stay long term plan, Enjoy mate with approximately 500-600usd per month with good life in BKK. For tourists with western and local food mixed with some traveling and exploring Thailand in short term can cost more 2-3 times or about 1,000-1,500 usd per month. 🥰🇹🇭🙏😊😃.

    I shit talk a lot of dudes that go to thailand and think they are mcmillionairs because they have $30k in the bank and move to thailand at 35...lol We all make mistakes. As we get older we should get smarter, from at the minimum, learning from our mistakes. You give great advice.
    We own two houses, one in a gated community in Chiangmai, and one here in the USA in OC California 8 miles from the beach. I spent most of my adult life being a slacker so I don't have a lot of money in savings. We are planning on renting out the house here for $4k per month, then making our house in Chiangmai home base. (if everything goes well, might sell the house here after a year or so) Love Chiangmai, but we will be traveling a lot. I'd say at least 50% or the time. There are fees that need to be paid but between SS and the rent $ we should be good. I will say that best scenario would be to live half and half between so cal and thailand so I can skip rainy season but that depends on my business. Most of my income is generated from on site repairs but I'm building a consumable sales business that might fund us enough to keep the house here.... Keep up the good work. Its good to see different perspectives, I see a lot of BS on youtube, your videos are honest and on point.

What do most youtubers use once you get to Thailand because coming from U.S. passengers can't bring more then $10K cash onto an airplane. Wrong, you can travel with more than $10,000 dollars, if you are bringing more than that, you fill out a Fincen form at Custom and Immigration office at the airport from the city you are flying out, and that's enough documentation, of the funds you have on your possecion, i know becuase i educated myself regarding this topis as a foreigner for 36 yrs here in the U.S!!

    • @RetiringToAsia
      @RetiringToAsia Год назад +2

      As Evral said, you're mistaken about taking cash or cash equivalents out of the country. (FYI most countries have declaration limits, not just US). As a former Customs Inspector, I can tell you that you must DECLARE (fill out a form) if the amount EXCEEDS 10k, even if it's $10,000.01. There is NO limit to the amount of cash/equivalents you can take out, but it can be seized if you fail to fill out the simple form. That said, Wise is easy to use for transfers and you do not have to be over 50 to open a bank account in Thailand. 50 is simply the threshold for a retirement Visa.

    Always consider the fine or ban from Thailand for making videos on RUclips without a work permit - many ignore this factor into their budget.

    I noticed you have your shirt off all the time that is a no-no here in Thailand that is look down upon very much especially for foreigners who are wearing shirtless in public that’s not too cool you can be arrested by the police and deported. My suggestion is for you to please wear your shirt you’re not in America You in Thailand is part of the culture for men Not to be shirtless in society, so to keep you from getting in trouble with the immigration police and with the regular police, please wear a shirt a T-shirt put something on because it’s it is looked down upon when you’re walking the now you at the beach that’s understandable cause you’re at the beach, but as an advice do not go shirtless away from the beach in public. That is a big no-no here in Thailand.
