Yeah people get PERSONALLY offended if you tell them that you pay a certain amount for rent if it's higher than theirs..lol...to some people 20,000 baht is too much and 125,000 baht is an amazing deal. Not everyone is on a limited budget and some people have a REALLY hard time accepting that information. And like you said, Bangkok has soooooo many different price points. If someone has the financial ability to pay 125,000 baht AND beyond, why do some people with limited funds and/or a limited mindset say that they're paying too much just because they may not want to or have the funds to pay the same thing? Strange how other people think that they should be in control of your money..lol
Cuz they feel like you're inflating the market....many gringos abroad dislike when other gringos overpay (in their opinion) because they think it will make the prices higher for all Westerners.

Transportation is always under 5 dollars Yeah you will see poverty and yes there is luxury here but if your a modest man or woman you will experience a decent life for a very good price. I fucking love it here.
I think it is a big "it depends". Most Americans wouldn't be happy with 35sqm. If you want to be up here in Asoke, you will probably be paying 25k+ for that size too. Food will be cheaper here eating out, even if you eat western food. The money you save on tipping alone will help. Why clean your condo yourself when you can hire someone for 500 baht for 2 hours? If you want to be frugal, you can be comfortable living cheaper than back home if you downsize your life. The best thing is you can do so much more for a similar western budget than back home. Drinks can be similarly priced, but just regular fun activities are gonna be way less.
