Oh man, I remember making a mapping guide on MMOWNED back in 2010 on how to map with Noggit in WoW. Mapping, and Noggit seems to have come quite a long way since then!
Never knew RED had these features, or if I did I thought it was exclusively post-WOTLK clients. These tools will help tremendously with my continent as Vertex painting and GroundEffects editing would go a long way. Thank you for your video!
Immaculate video that you have made, very cohesive and straight forward to understand what this is all about and how it works! Keep up the good work and hope to see some of your crafts on some private servers.
I love this guide, thank you for making it so detailed and easy to follow, I do wonder though, if you make another tutorial in the future, please explain further the texture brains, I can't seem to figure it out.
It's basically just a pattern that breaks up single texture monotony. Let's say you are painting straight up grass, by itself it might look ok but if you introduce patterns of dirt to it it will look more natural. Kinda imagine painting blobs of grass outlined by dirt which sits slightly lower, as if the grass there is eroded by water runoff or something like that. If you look at any blizzard map you'll see it straight away, it's never a single texture, there's always a pattern of several ones in different blob-like forms.
@@implave thank you for the response, i know exactly what you're talking about visually. I guess I should have worded my first statement better, Is there a setting in Noggit that auto generates these texture brains or do you paint them individually and "paste" them onto the ground?
@@trappedinacrystalfor10000years no, nothing auto-generates them, you can make a pattern and copy-paste it around with green noggit's chunk mover but that's about it

Looking forward to seeing more from you!
Imagine Blizz releasing an up to date supported set of modding tools and then start doing event content like based around themes. 3 months of making "Island Expedition" maps or "Demon Hunter Invasion" campaigns where you play a DH in Black Temple period and Illidan sends you out on sorties to player made maps, some themes would lend themselves to some really wild maps while others keep it grounded. You could just have regular excursions with a copy of your normal char like on a PTR copy or a new char that might be converted at events end like PandaMix. Crazy game modes, maps specifically for dragon racing, how long do you think someone would cobble together a cart racer? The whole DOTA genre was birthed from modding, with a playerbase like WoW's I could easily someone that never even considered game design doing something wildly different. Damn shame it'll never be.
