Prototype Zaralek Cavern - World of Warcraft 10.1 Exploration
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.Год назад
Join the WoW Exploration Discord: discord.com/invite/juNuxhp Hidden deep in game files lies a really old version of Zaralek Cavern. The zone is surrounded by a piece of equally old Dragon Isles "printed" onto terrain from a concept image. The part of the cavern that survives is done mainly in vertex paint and seems to have an icy and a wet/coral biome. Likely placeholder dwarven and elementalis...
Early Dragonflight Alpha Exploration

Since Blizzard sadly doesn't show their development process - here is my small attempt at showcasing a snapshot of what goes into things ranging from simple object blockouts to zone and dungeon design. Song: Giants of the Span by David Arkenstone

Box of Darkness, Platform of Light - Anthem Out of Bounds Exploration
Просмотров 6092 года назад
Found while exploring out of bounds, eastern part of the map. This is the type of exploration that makes you write something stupid like "travel through the rainbow tunnel in the endless sea of stars - that's where you'll find the box of darkness and the platform of light"
also implave much love in respect in the modding community dudes a beast <3
what really sucks. is HD patches do go with noggit edits . just a heads up for guys trying to merg the two. it will crash your game with HD patches.
The game client always fail to load the custom map, the client just closes whenever the custom map is being loaded, no txt logs !
Thanks for the great video for the wow modding community ! I tried to downport map like you video at 16:00 but when i load in noggit , noggit instant close. sometime i can enter the map on a edge but instant crash when i move near the island, i tried to so same island as you but don't understand why it crash
I'm not understanding how to get the 3.3.5a.12340 enUS client, is there a video you could possibly suggest to help me complete this part?
in the video there's a clip that shows 3 websites where you can download the client - chromiecraft, warmane, take your pick
could you tell me what programming language you used for this?
I just made the tutorial, but noggit is written in c++, the converter is written in c# and wow blender studio is python
@implave Wow, this is a lot of work... you probably graduated from university with a degree in programming?
you're cool! I take my hat off to you
Why does this only have 10k views ?! This is one of the greatest exploration vids, even if it’s not online.
So this is how the turtle wow peeps do it. Great to see.
thx, i created my WoW World, It's the World of Warcraft I remember, not the world of contradictions
Sadly this tutorial isnt that great imo, going quite all over the place and it's more a show and tell rather than properly guiding us through the steps as far as the setup goes.
@@Setuaro Sorry you found it that way. But saying "isn't that great" isn't at all constructive - what exactly was confusing, in what way? The video was made (and fully scripted) for beginners to rater complex wow modding in mind and I literally go step-by-step on screen following my own tutorial, covering in voice and video the setup, functions, export, testing, for each tool. How one might find it "improper guidance" being hand held through the whole process is a bit confusing to me, please clarify. As everything in development the tools went through a bit of a change but nothing has changed functionally or with the step-by-step.
Cool.
To bad modding adding new factions can't be added to WoW
Не сразу заметил что у тебя русский язык в системе...
Hey, it's okay, I'm Brazilian so it's a little difficult to understand, is there any way you could make a short, simple video to show the shortcuts on how to make that ground effect...
the converter does ground effects automatically
thank you for this. i swore i saw some really weird stuff i've never seen before in 17 years a while back, but i couldn't find it. something about zones hidden in the mpqs that are unlisted or something of the sort. inaccessible in other words. either way, this is amazing
Can you teach me how to make this ground effect in video 8:38...
the converter automatically does ground effects based on what blizzard use
I am not a programmer but always had the passion of world building and story telling. This video really helps
hard to understand, like missing some steps, tried with the written guide and the video, i'll try from the beginning next time, wtf is epsilon or Arctium? should have more explications and screenshots
@@wastonleil2629 arctium is pretty clearly described in "sandbox setup" in the written guide, epsilon wow is the first link on google, pretty much just an all gm rp server that supports adding custom files, which is also what is shown in the video guide
In just two movies of yours that I've seen, I've seen patient devotion to projects beyond what I easily envision one person having. What a love letter to Azeroth this has been, with love in abundance put into it! Your devotion resulted in something brilliant, fashioned solely from what was incomplete and abandoned, save for some well beneficial comparisons to finished forms (4:35). You've shown me the Azeroth I know well in a stage before I've known it (16:08). With your expertly done cuts across game versions, I got to see some of my favorite locations grow up (23:13), and appreciate the artistry that's gone into them, watching detail, decoration, and lighting be implemented successively (10:15, 13:38). You've made an interesting show not only of cut zones, but also of cut assets (4:50). Some of these camera pans, too, add all the more artistry to the dearly beautiful zones (1:30, 2:45). Thanks to your additional lore, I'm now in on the fascinating mystery of Secret Outland (8:20); I'm also fascinated that Silvershard (19:48) existed years before Mists. In a way, you've completed the prototypes in a way different than Blizzard did, and given the abandoned works application at long last.
Great video and music! My favorite part is definitely the old Stormwind gate asset. It makes me wonder how much of those classic art assets still exist in their archives. I’d love to see them (while remaining realistic) brought back into the game through something like Season of Discovery-whether through adding back animations or unique models. There’s something about the combination of old and new that captures the magic of exploring WoW for the first time. It’s like stepping into something both familiar and foreign. Creating games with that sense of wonder is hard, and sometimes modern graphics alone can’t capture that feeling. There’s a unique charm in the art from that era-it was immersive because of how it made you feel, not just how it looked, the art from that era that goes beyond what we’ve as players have experienced, creating something truly distinct. It’s funny because, as a 3D modeler, I’ve worked on models with millions of polygons to very simple low poly models, but they still don’t come close to capturing the minimalist feel that a lot of the early WoW models have. Their simplicity, driven by the need to work within hardware limitations, has a certain artistic energy that’s really hard to replicate.
I'm glad I finally made the time to check out your channel as I've wanted to; this well exceeds expectations. These custom zones are so new to me, yet so much in the spirit of my profoundly beloved Vanillaclysm Azeroth; I had no idea it existed, which makes your beautiful introduction of a great many of them all the greater. You put love into these pans and flights of appropriately varying times of day (0:00), speeds and scales (2:40), and paths to show them in the best way (2:52). Your choice of folkish guitar music, too, hits me well with its artful calm, paired so pleasantly with these views of a new Azeroth, something I wouldn't have thought to pair it with but love that you did. You even corellate the visuals consciously with changes in the music, like putting the sad part with the blue cave (3:30) and spooky fast part with the red cave (4:48). You even move through your exploration in stages of a hero's journey, putting Elwynn first and Molten Core last. Thank you for this beautiful introduction, to a beautiful project that somehow I haven't known of until now, but now do thanks to you! 🏕️🏰🐊
Does this work for modrn assets? not just ones that are a bit out of date
was this all reverse engineered or did blizz release some tools?
All crafted by hands by amateurs! Blizz surely never released tools^^
Do you know, generally, how much space I would need to download the different map-making tools? I would really like to give this modding a try.
@@drpants9015 the tools are lightweight, clients and assets are pretty sizable, a full 335 is around 12gb + 25 + 10 for assets, and a full Shadowlands client is around 98, but that can be a streaming client
Wonder what's harder modding WoW or ROM hacking a SEGA Genesis game like Streets of Rage 2 ? Other question is how does a person add new races ,i wouldn't mind adding the "2004 High Elves" before pre BC and Orges on the Horde .
I love this guide, thank you for making it so detailed and easy to follow, I do wonder though, if you make another tutorial in the future, please explain further the texture brains, I can't seem to figure it out.
It's basically just a pattern that breaks up single texture monotony. Let's say you are painting straight up grass, by itself it might look ok but if you introduce patterns of dirt to it it will look more natural. Kinda imagine painting blobs of grass outlined by dirt which sits slightly lower, as if the grass there is eroded by water runoff or something like that. If you look at any blizzard map you'll see it straight away, it's never a single texture, there's always a pattern of several ones in different blob-like forms.
@@implave thank you for the response, i know exactly what you're talking about visually. I guess I should have worded my first statement better, Is there a setting in Noggit that auto generates these texture brains or do you paint them individually and "paste" them onto the ground?
@@trappedinacrystalfor10000years no, nothing auto-generates them, you can make a pattern and copy-paste it around with green noggit's chunk mover but that's about it
@@implave ahh i see, thank you so much for your explanation!
Nice you use Shaman Village ost
WOW that's cool! 👍
the eye model is in which mpq?
Tomkek needs to see this video.
this is so dope
Since Blizzard is too lazy to update outdated graphics, perhaps they should hire you to do that work.
I would like to see a step by step guide into server creation and how to do it
@@n0tareas0n there is a guide for a 9.2.7 sandbox available on discord, not a full-on server with combat etc. but for map makers it should suffice
This could be your resume for blizzard. Nice work!
It would have been super cool if we actually got those Dragon Isle caves such as the ones in the older books, but at the same time I’m a little glad they saved it for a future expansion, as now we’ve got better technology and graphics, allowing them to make the zone look a lot better
wonderful vid thank ye~
Thanks for making this m8, I've always been into modding wow, but i've never come across anything online video wise. Most of it is all well known stuff
Выглядит интересно, но п3дц сложно :)
Never knew this was possible. This is soooooo cool!
Absolutely great video. The individual scenes and areas remind me of when I started playing WoW in 2007. I saw many things live back then, like the airfield in Ironforge before it really became an airport. Mount Hyal when it was not yet accessible and also the GM island. It was just great to explore and discover everything back then, especially the areas that weren't finished yet or were only added to the game years later. I even remember the old maps of the Dragon Islands that made it into the game after all :-)
Its bring me back memories from early 2000s when I done something like this using Ultima Online.
missed chance to call it Modern Map Making Mastery :p are the final results of such process compatible with say AzerothCore or TrinityCore?
they are compatible with clients, not server cores, everything 8.1.5+ works, and I guess only TC has versions that support those modern clients
9:26 datta datta data
So peaceful, thank you for the tutorial 🤗
hello there is no release of houses for 3.3.5??
that snowy town looks incredible
хочу на ваших картах поигратььь
Really nice video :D
