I always loved this song but it makes me super sad at the same time. It is about the breakup of a long time friendship after all. The fact that they were both working on a similar song makes me realize how connected their minds were on an artistic level.
Cool, Izzy is my favourite member
same here
me as well.
mine too since i was 13. long live Izzy Stradlin 💙
I like all of Izzy's songs
same here.
„Don’t Cry“ for instance is my alltime favorite song composed by Axl and Izzy
Amazing song. Had to be written about their long friendship. Would love to have seen Axl's reaction to the lyrics when he first heard them. Last 4 years of madness, sure put me straight!!!!!
haha yeah.
Awesome I love 14 years. Great song with izzy vocals
thanks. Enjoy!
Thanks man, as always great post. I love 14 years. Definitely in my top ten. Nothing against Axl but this is one of my favorites, because Izzy is an amazing singer and songwriter and he has a very unique voice. Most of the GnR songs was Izzy and Slash. Then Axl would put lyrics to what they wrote. Axl would come up with the vocals and lyrics. Axl never gets the credit for his genius words and vocal melodies.
thanks David! Love this song.
King David .... You're correct . Axl doesn't get enough credit - full stop .
I really enjoyed his backing vocals on 14 Years, because you can really hear a mix of love, disdane and pain in those "14 years of silence, 14 years of pain". Izzy's fine singer, but no match to Axl when it comes to putting raw emotions in. And the piano part is awesome too.
great song! Been a GNR staple for me since 1993 when I bought Use Your Illusion II.Boy does time fly!.
yup
Saw Izzy sing this at the St Louis riot on July 2 1991. I was 3rd row and 16 yrs old
14 years reminds me of my life and how I struggled and fought addiction I experienced everything they sung about on this song
Great song, one that i love really much since izzy is on Vocals and Axl adds a nice touch with his vocals. Also the coincidence when both wrote the "same song" thats insane, what are the odds hahah.
yeah i found that story kind of odd for sure.
l was waiting for this, 14 years has always been one of my favorite gnr songs, l thought l was alone as it's a song that doesn't get mentioned much.
glad you enjoyed this.
Guns N' Roses Central Yeah, lt's funny because l was going to ask in your previous video if you were going to do 14 years as it's one of my favorite songs, haha but you must have read my mind haha
Am I crazy, in one of those videos live of 14 years, Izzy seems to be annoyed that Axl sings the chorus with him, literally drowning Izzys voice, ( axl always wants to be the center of attention)
i imagine izzy probably didn't want the piano and organ and all that stuff added to the track, but i am just guessing.
I don’t think he drowned his voice out, I think it’s just significantly more powerful
you are, axl voice fits perfectly
No offense but I think you're overthinking it. He wasn't annoyed about that imo
That first pantages gig is really special, they shot the whole thing on FILM! First performance of 14 Years, first encore was Bad Apples, Shannon Hoon was there..and it's unreleased to this day. No audio or video. Hope we get it someday.
Also it's a crime they edited out that Slash outro solo from the rough mix version of this song!
yeah i wish we had pro shot footage released of it.
it's even better than pro shot..it's on film, it's movie quality. you can see small snippets of the footage by the director Mark Racco who the band hired for that day, he did videos for their songs like My Michelle and Mr Brownstone, both use footage from that gig which is not available anywhere else. highly interesting stuff
Wow!
Thanks man. That was exactly what I was looking for. Keep making these great videos.
thanks Warren!
Just found your channel. Very interesting, thanks for sharing.😊
you're welcome! If you love GNR I would suggest subscribing since I cover everything about the band. More videos like this coming!
For 14 years I loved 14 years.
This is one of, if not my overall favorite Gn'R songs. Locomotive is up there too, between those 2 and Rocket Queen it's a toss up. Love the channel, just found it not too long ago and have been binge watching since. Keep up the good work! Best band ever!
This is my favorite song by them and i love them all but i have always said this was my top number 1 by them...that bridge to solo is so damn cool
Hey Sid thanks for this! 14 years is at the top of my list for sure. I always thought it had something to do with the struggles they went through just to make it.
I can't wait until you do PTU
you're welcome Tamara! One of my favourite GNR songs for sure! Here's my drum video of 14 years ruclips.net/video/Mk0to65J3tM/видео.html
I love 14 yrs. I put it in my top 12. thanks
The demo of 14 years is amazing. Can't find it anywhere though.
It is one of my favourites....
same here.
Definitely one of the best tracks from the UYI records!!!
agreed
Of course "14 Years" is a great song! I like also the organ/piano.
It's hard to find bad GNR songs. There are bands that would love to have only 1 good song, GNR have plenty.
Thanks for the info. Izzy's always been my favorite, and this song rocks. I'm surprised Axl even let the band record it, since it's such a clear slap in his face. I mean, Axl's the same guy who insisted on that awful bit in Get in the Ring where he just insults critics by name, and apparently Shotgun Blues was written as an attack on Vince Neil. The dude has thin skin. The fact that he let his bandmate record a song all about Axl being nuts is kinda bizarre. Is it possible he didn't get it?
yeah i kind of wonder myself too, but glad they released it.
😂😂😂😂
I always got a good laugh while rocking out to Izzy singing this song. Fuckn great.😋😂😂😂😂😂😂
But Izzy was his best friend, so I think it was kind of: "only Izzy has the right to tell the truth about me"
@@nightgathering And the way Slash moves or dances around while playing this song live kinda made me think he's just laughing inside about the two Indiana boys' bickering.
Your "reporting" is superb (as always), i don't think you missed a spot haha ...
Of course, the song is on my top 10 list ... and Izzy on (lead) vocals haaaaaa... god i miss him
Thanks Axl.
You're welcome Sid.
damn, Izzy is the best & my all time fav. member.
me too. hes my favorite, Iz.
the song didnt do much for me,i usually just skipped it,when listening to the albums..izzy's best song on the album was "Double talkin jive" that song rocked! and killer Slash guitar
Very underrated song
Love that song!
me too.
3:48
excellent forensics, Sir
Thanks! Very informative. Great tune.
you're welcome! Make sure to subscribe if you want to see more vids like that or if you're a GNR fan.
one of my all time favs. as well. 😃
One of the best songs ever.
My favorite gnr song
Great video!
mike anderson thanks
Great
I think axl saw the lyrics izzy made and thought izzy was trying to take over as front man so he tried making a song that was about the same concept but better
Maybe these were really two songs that came to be at the same time by coincidence and were put together as described - Izzy's one about a relationship with a girl and Axl's one about his friendship with Izzy (the chorus). Nevertheless, the duet of the guitar and the piano is something.
Solid info man nice job
thanks Tony!
Now 7.5yrs in sobriety
shit i have that Bring you too you knees album i totally forgot about that i now have to find it in cd collection. I must of bought in the mid 90s
here's the link to the cover of 14 years someone found it and sent it to me. soundcloud.com/user-695295723/14-years-cover
What if this song is about love between axl and izzy? What do you think guys?
I think it is right up there with Sweet Child o mine.
So where is the link to the demo that is supposed to be in the description?
Hey man, great channel--listen to it everyday. Just fyi it's pronounced "pan-TAY-juhs" theater. @ 00:53. Sorry, I'm a local...
Fire!
good videos man
thanks Chris! Plenty more on the way.
I love the song but it’s clearly Izzy venting about Axl, it’s not about a chick
They weren't an "overnight success". It took 14 years and a walk through hell. I think it's a clapback at people who think they had it easy.
Was Axl writing another song called "14 Years" the thing that you were talking about in your video yesterday?
TheTruthIsTheWay11 I think I was referring to this song if I'm not mistaken
Yeah, but I'm referring to the Guns N' Roses fact that you said that none of us would know. I missed your livestream, and haven't watched it yet. Maybe you revealed some hints there.
@@TheTruthIsTheWay11 02:13
Do rocket queen.
Braiden bauer coming soon
Ya- I don’t think this is about Axl and Izzy. Listen to the lyrics. It’s clearly about a guy who is fed up with his wife/girlfriend always giving him shit throughout their 14 year relationship. Maybe Axl introduced Izzy at a show one night and said “hey- I’ve known this guy for 14 years! Now he’s gonna play a song called 14 years.” That doesn’t mean that the song is about them. Listen to the words. Pretty clear sentiment. It’s a break up song!
I never realized Axl was on piano.
me neither until i did research for the song.
I wrote 15 yrs. and within a month 14 yrs. came out.........fucked again!
Hmmm, I had heard a long time ago that this song was about Axl's childhood and being molested when he was 14. 14 years of silence, 14 years of pain. Of course, I can't remember where I heard it, but it was in the weeks leading up to the release of the Illusions albums.
Axl claimed to have been molested at age 2 not 14
