yep, Burton played it with a pick. ok, in the concert video i watched he looked like he was using a pick. i've been using my fingers so i'll give a pick a try and see how it works out

Burton never played with a pick. There also wasn’t very much footage of him playing it live because he tragically passed away during the tour. You probably watched a clip of his replacement (Jason Newsted who played with a pick live).

@@Facu_Roldan i like it this way and didn't know the actual intro riff so i'm glad you posted it. i have a grandson who's blazing on the guitar on this song and i've got work to do to keep up with him on bass. it is relentless and fast, for 8 and a half minutes.
