Fantastic playing! So many covers over the years have played the bass part, as doubling the guitar part in the opening riff. So great to hear this masterfully written bass part played, well...masterfully. Your tone is just pure balls. Nice.
its 90% correct but he plays most of the breakdown wrong unfortunately, not saying i could do any better, but yeah the breakdown is played VERY different to the recording here.
@@yoshikigrg8 Thing is you can still hear it, like in Orion. You can hear it pretty well in the og MoP track better than anything on AFJA or The Black Album
This is like the best I’ve ever seen someone play, not only this song but the bass overall. Your fingers are like actual picks. And the sound of that bass is amazing
Like im telling everybody, the bass riff is totally different with the guitar riff, and this came up, what a relief, im not alone. Super dope cover mate.
Trujillo plays the B-C-C# along with the geetar it’s kinda funny. Meanwhile I’m in a tribute band as Jason and can’t figure out if this fucker’s down picking the whole thing lol
Ive heard this cover played many times by many players over the years but not 1 of them matched your tone and technique. Thats got to be the rawest, ballsiest version of Master ive heard yet and it sounded f**kin phenomenal!!! Very well done!!!
MoP goes hard! Always. It honours the original and adds some real nice subtle technical flavors into the depth. really cool video and phenomenal finger style playing.
Man, that part at 6:20 still kicks my ass, even after loads of practice. I've got the entire song down except for that one part and it drives me nuts! haha. I have a simplified way to play it if I must, but I hate chickening out. Gotta keep practicing I guess!
I always use this video whenever I have to relearn the bass parts. Killer sound, what impulse response did you use?? Id love to get a similar sound live with my microtubes infinity. Cheers!
Interesting thing is that there is a subtle fallacy in this reasoning I write music as well and it took me a while to realise this Now don't get me wrong, this bass part is absolutely awesome However, the idea that it "goes so well with the guitars" is an emergent property of your own perception, and not Cliff's. Because you have always heard those guitars with that bassline laid out in the background. Even if you couldn't hear it clearly, your perception of the guitar has always been comfortably resting on that bass groove, and therefore that bassline is implied in the way you hear the guitars, so of course when you hear it clearly you think it is the perfect bassline. There could have been 100000 other basslines that compliment the guitars well, but this one is the one that sounds familiar and true, not because of itself, but because it is the one that was printed on the record. What you call "the guitars" doesn't exist in a vacuum. You do not know what the guitars could have sounded like without the bass, and you never will. Because the bass deeply affects how you perceive everything above it (and there are a million tracks that demonstrate that, with the guitar playing the same thing twice while the bass changes for example). "But what do you mean, rambling stranger?? Of course I know what it sounds like, I can go listen to the guitar riff without the bass, you dumb fuck" No, you can't. The only way you could is if you had never heard the song with the bass. If you find someone who has never listened to that song, you can show them the guitar part in isolation and they will hear exactly that, the guitar part. But you, my dear fellow, will always have the bassline in your head, whether you know it or not. When you hear the guitars in isolation, something will be missing. Something that completes the harmony in your memories of this song, something you are so used to that it feels off without it. So when you hear the bassline, you think "THAT! THAT EXACTLY WAS MISSING!". But the truth is, our brain is pretty much unable to think of anything else because the bass is an integral part of how we understand this melody, how we feel it, how we think it "should" be. Now, don't get me wrong (again), a bassline can be better or worse. But that is an extremely complicated thing to discuss and I'm kinda too lazy to go into a whole essay here xD
Thank you for doing this. I always needed a visual on some things like that minor second. Kept me second guessing myself for a long time. Why would he do that? Now, I accept it as just part of his genius.
Awesome cover, man!! One of, if not, the best bass covers I've ever heard of this song. Just realized I have to relearn a few bits, but that's okay!! Awesome job.

So, possibly a really stupid question! But just asking as someone who is trying to get back into learning and playing: Is he strumming downwards on certain notes as opposed to the normal finger technique? Or is that just my eyes playing tricks on me? Thanks to any answers and apologies if it's a silly question.
I’d love to have the real tabs, never found anything played as close as this to the Cliff’s version! Could you please share a PDF or guitar pro file so we can play the real thing? Even the authorized paper versions don’t sound like this...

lol this is the original bass part? i've been living a lie all these years haha
he just made the bass louder :-))
Unfortunately Jason and Rob double the guitar. I prefer Cliff approach. Kind of sounding more heavier and agressive
how fucking good man cliff was a genius he knew how to be one yet stand the bass out from the main riff so fkn sick.
@@patwilsontrudeautanguayall5810 it basically becomes a heavy fuckin power chord riff with the way Cliff played it. Really smart writing

In the original tracks, the producers purposely lowered the bass volume. I still don't understand why till this day.
