I've been thinking about hang vs hitch and feel that maybe the hitch is favoured by relatively shorter jumpers ( therefore the ones with higher cadence ) and the hang by the taller ones ( easier to keep those long legs from touching the sand in the hang ). What do you think?

I have said that faster cadence jumpers may favour the hitch but they can be short or tall - Jeff Henderson V Carl Lewis, Luvo Manyonga. The take-off for both the hang and the hitch needs to be direct and held before the movement into the specific jump action. In my experience I see jumpers who would suit a particular style and it's not always down to size. I got Sarah in my group to learn the hitch not the hang, due to the fact that I wanted her to really attack the take-off and not think "big powerful drive into hang". Speed was what she needed and I wanted that cadence. As you may know she's 6" plus so could suit the hang. However, I think she would have had difficulty holding position and that the legs would drop even more because of the shorter range of movement in the hang. The hitch fills the airtime more and the movement can 'create' a more power leg shoot. I hope this provides some more food for thought. And, as usual thanks for the question!

What can help me learn how to land. Because I struggle to bring my knees up to my chest up before I land, thanks

Are you referring to the long jump? I'll assume so... in many ways you don't really want to bring the knees to the chest, as this can shorten the landing action making more of a ball, which will lead to over rotation. You may be thinking instead about lifting your legs to extend into the landing... with the heels way out in front. To do this really requires an efficient mid-air action. Forward rotation usually imparts its forces on the jumper in flight and the actions of the hitch or hang for example are designed to combat that and allow the legs to extend. Unless the flight is balanced it's unlikely that you will be able to extend fully into the landing. We have however worked on the hip flexors through various leg lift drills and also via jumps onto a high jump mat where you have to lift and extend into the landing position. These will give you the feeling that's needed to effectively land. So do do drills such as these but work too on your mid-air action to ensure a balanced flight and then your landings should improve. One last thing... don't think landing too early on in the jump, it needs to wait - otherwise you will enter the leg shoot position too soon and your heels will be likely to drop. Hope this helps.

Hi I note you are based in the US, so it's not so straight forward. Jonathan from my group - the 16m triple jumper - likes adidas jumpstar. He says they have more flexibility than the triple jump specialist shoe... here's a link to a UK store, which has them for around £60 approx 80US I think www.sportsdirect.com/adidas-jumpstar-mens-running-spikes-218097?colcode=21809740 You might be able to find similar Stateside, or even order these dependent on shipping..... All the best, J
