    I tend to use the leeming luts because noise really bothers me. I also have the phantom lut and sometimes use it in situations when I can't overexpose (not enough light). I like the "neutral" creative luts that are included in the leeming pack, as well. After tweaking my skin tone with slightly more magenta I am very happy with the results!

      Hey thanks! So something like the Sony a7iii? For a camera like that you're better off shooting S-Log2 over S-Log3, so I wouldn't use these specifically. I'm a little weary of the LUTs that say they work with "everything." Caleb's is for the 10 bit cameras, but I know Phantom LUT has one that works with Sony a7iii. Does that help?

    Man, this is awesome, thank you! I purchased the Phantoms for my a7sIII, a74, and FX30... One question: If I am shooting S-LOG3 and aiming to use these LUTs, I simply expose properly and apply the creative LUT straight away??? Or do I need to correct with a technical LUT before I use the Phantom LUT? I just want to be sure... Thanks!

    • @BradGiannini
      @BradGiannini  Год назад +2

      Hey, well thank you for watching! Yep correct, the phantom luts are essentially technical luts (even though they're more of an arri emulation) so you don't have to use any other technical luts. Honestly don't even really need much other grading at all before the image looks really good. Hope that helps!

    Q1.: Do Phantom Luts work with Slog3 ? I have a sony fx3 and I have Expose my footage MM +1.3 to 1.7
    Q2. ( question for a beginner ) After I load my slog3 footage , I apply color space transform for rec709. I also adjust white balance and I might adjust color wheels for lift and gain. Q2 - When do I apply 'LUTS' like phantom luts? After color space transform or should I apply them first thing? Many thanks , Brad!!

    • @BradGiannini
      @BradGiannini  Год назад +1

      Q1: Absolutely I use it in that exact situation all the time!
      Q2: If you're using a color space transform to Rec.709 in DaVinci you don't need the phantom lut, that works well enough to get you to neutral. If you wanted to apply a LUT after that, it would be one to create a final creative look (not a technical LUT).
      Does that make sense?

    Same choice : Phantom LUT. I grade my footage (CANON R5) in DaVinci Resolve 17.4. I'm pretty happy with the results delivered by the Color Management of DaVinci to normalize my CLog3 footage. For my understanding the Color Space Transform is more versatile than LUT (especially for multi-camera projects). Do you have a conviction on the subject? Thanks for your time.

    • @BradGiannini
      @BradGiannini  2 года назад +1

      I do actually, absolutely color management is great especially for cameras shot in different color spaces. For basic one camera color correcting, you can instead use a simple transform to get your proper color space (ex. Rec 709). And yes the basic color space transform in davinci is very accurate. If you wanted to use the phantom LUT and color management, you can convert your footage to let's say ACES and then to the Sony picture profile and then apply the phantom LUT. I'm not sure if that would be 100% perfect but it should get you close. In the end the phantom LUT is more of an emulation than a specific Rec 709 color accurate LUT, although it is pretty accurate as well. And it looks nice! Hope that helps!

    My problem is that the ZV-E10 has auto-focusing issues with S-Log, so I have to use HLG3. Neither DLS Video Shooter, Phantom or Sony (surprisingly) offer a LUT for HLG3, so I have to use Leemings. It's annoying to over-expose, but it is what it is.

    Hi, thank you for this video. I'm looking for answers to my questions. In my opinion, the "Phantom LUT" offers the best value, but I'm not sure which type of LUT I should buy. Unfortunately, the site only offers LUTs for 10-bit cameras, and I only have the a7III, which does not have this feature.

    • @BradGiannini
      @BradGiannini  Год назад

      Hi, sure thing. So basically the a7iii looks best using S-Log 2, not 3, and the phantom LUTs aren't specifically for that. That being said I know some people use the old fs7 wb corrected phantom lut, probably with some tweaking. So if you were dead set on that, I would go with that one. Otherwise if you like the ETTR method, I believe Leeming has a lut specifically for the a7iii. Does that help? Thanks for watching!

    not sure if someone has already said this, but with the DSLR video shooter technical LUTS (which I own) the red channel clips badly. for example, you're filming neon signs, the red signs will all clip the red channel and will give a very gross broken green look to those areas.
