  • New trail day at Spirit Mountain! There is a new trail hub called the Happy Hub where the reworked Wildcat and the lower portion of Happy Camper begin, as well as a new green rated trail off of Candyland named Happy Hub Connector leading you there. Happy Hub Connector had some fun beginner jumps and nice flow leading you to the new hub. Wildcat now has a large wooden drop as a squirrel catcher (that is rollable) before launching you down a flowy jump line with some larger gap jumps and tabletops. Everything on Wildcat worked great and was very intuitive, especially an optional gap over a flat bridge that is a speed check for the larger jump right after it. I wasn't able to clear that bridge gap without slightly casing the jump, and needed to throw in a pedal stroke or two to clear the biggest jump. The trail is brand new so the dirt was fresh and soft in some spots so it'll get faster as it's ridden in, but I already know the Duluth locals are sending everything on it regardless. The lower portion of Wildcat is still under construction so I wasn’t able to ride it or see what was new, but I know it's going to be a great improvement to what was an already awesome trail for the original Wildcat. Sounds like there are other new trails and renovations in the works for Spirit planned for this season, so keep an eye out for updates as the bike park expands!
    Many of the other popular and most difficult trails were closed at Spirit this day, but I still had a lot of fun riding what was open. Rode a few laps with a rider I met, Mason, who towed me into some rock rolls and was absolutely sending his new Rocky Mountain Altitude, his very first ride on it no less! He was taking notes on his suspension setup to get his new Altitude dialed in, just like I was taking notes on my Spires new tune to get the suspension fine tuned. Was hoping to ride Monkey Business or Calculated Risk to test bottom out resistance, but they were closed. Need to get back to Spirit and ride those trails before seeing if I need to remove more volume spacers to utilize all my suspension travel. I've had a lot of fun learning about and adjusting my Fox Factory suspension, and I think it's close to being dialed! Can't wait to get back to Spirit Mountain to ride more trails as they open.

      Stoked to see what Zenith keeps building in that zone, it’s been amazing so far! The lower half of Wildcat was still under construction and that was already a super fun trail, can’t wait to see the improvements. There also might be a new blue jump line in the works I heard, excited to see how Spirit continues to improve!

    Excelent vid, really tied a lot together here. New trail looks sick, very detailed suspension settings & Looking pretty dialed now. Dug your standard intro track used near the end of the vid. Not the most ideal conditions, but I can still be envious of this day. Soon the sword will be fully unsheathed🎉

      Thanks man, an all around awesome day at spirit with new trails & lines sent, nerding out over suspension tuning, and one sketchy moment on Knowlton Rocks! Had to break out the classic intro song to cap off a rad day at Spirit. Get back up north one of these weekends and I’m stoked to ride with you and Randy again!

    New work looks fabulous, and it’s nice to see the bottom of Knowlton isn’t totally underwater with all the rain lately.

      Reworked Wildcat is fantastic, can't wait to clean up the first half and ride the second half of it after the updates by Zenith Trail Contracting. Sounds like Spirit was quite the mudfest earlier, tons of trails were still closed!

      You were absolutely sending your new Rocky Mountain Altitude, couldn't believe it was your first ride on it! Thanks for towing me into the chalet rock roll and I really need to learn how to throw whips as stylish as yours. Super fun riding AND talking bikes with you, you're gonna have the Altitude dialed once you get that Push coil converted Fox 36 ramp up and coil shock tuned to the gnar at Spirit!

    Great riding Andrew, on a soggy looking day at Spirit! The Spire looks to be such a great fit for those trails, nice work!

      @AndrewGehn  17 дней назад

      Thanks Rob, you are absolutely sending your Tallboy and pushing the limits of it's downcountry geometry in your recent Piedmont video. The Spire is just a lil' bit more optimized for downhill performance and riding it at downhill bike parks is incredible, especially when I don't have to pedal it back up! Trails were still a bit soggy and several were closed; hope the conditions Wednesday aren't soggy enough for a closure or change in plans!

    The trails earlier in this video are more my speed. Some serious nar up there. Don't think my marlin 6 would last long on that. 😅. Very cool. Thanks for sharing this with us. Good riding

      Spirit does offer some easier flow trails in Candyland and Happy Camper, but yes they are known for their ultra gnarly trails! Thanks Harry, my first bike was actually a Trek Marlin 6 and that was a great bike for what it was meant for! Had a lot of fun riding that bike around Duluth for my first two years before reaching a point where I needed a more downhill capable bike.

      The faster and steeper you ride the Spire the better it feels, hard to explain but every Spire owner knows exactly what we're talking about. Definitely appreciate the slack HTA on Knowlton Rocks and the gnarly rock rolls that Spirit has!

    I’m looking to get into this , do you think it’s possible to get a bike close to $1,000 that can handle spirit mountain? I’m not looking for high end, just full suspension

    • @AndrewGehn
      @AndrewGehn  8 дней назад

      Would probably have to get a used bike to be near that number, which can be a challenge if you don’t know what to look for when buying a used MTB. Specialized Status 160 on sale would probably be the closest priced new bike that can handle Spirit.
