A World Class EPIC ride in the heart of a city? || The Duluth Traverse

- This ride would mark the longest ride to date for myself with over 45 miles and over 4,200 FT of climbing. The one thing that stuck out to me the most with this ride was that we are basically smack dab in the middle of city with a population of around 86,000 people. The ability to have an epic day ride right outside the back door of so many people is fascinating. The ride can be done in a few ways. You could start over at Mission Creek and make your way towards Lester Park. This route in my opinion is the route to take based on our experience. Or the opposite taking Lester over to Mission Creek. Or if you want to break up the ride and sample both directions stopping at Piedmont as the half way point you could do that as well. Or if you're looking for one crazy ride do a out and back both directions! The one thing I loved about this ride in particular is the optional trails you can include in your ride. For example you reach Piedmont why not take DM, B.O.B or another trail of your choice. Once you get your fix of DM then continue on the Duluth Traverse to the next trail system. Overall this was one of the most enjoyable rides I had done this year even though there were some very trying times with climbing I made it and what an experience!
The next time you find yourself in Duluth give the Duluth Traverse a go and you will not be disappointed!

I have an added appreciation for the city of Duluth after riding along the traverse both directions now; Evan and I came back up here and rode this the opposite way starting in Mission, circling brewer and back to Mission with a couple Spirit MT laps mixed in.. I think next year the full 80+ miles is in order! We learned some lessons from the ride in this video; Mainly the importance of bringing a light and keeping better track of time; It’s pretty sad I actually had a light along but decided to leave it in the car, lol! Nevertheless this will be an adventure we’ll always remember and wouldn’t have changed anything about it, pain and discomfort is a great teacher. Great job editing the footage Evan, it’s rad to be able to look back on this day.
Absolutely a Full Pull is in the books next year! Agree with you there I wouldn't of changed anything on this day it was EPIC! A light would have been nice though😂
Damn you guys are hardcore!!! That's a huge day of riding. Really great video and third person shots!
Thanks Kirk! It was HEAVY 🤘
Awesome video and footage. I rode 5 miles down from Chester park at 5:30 AM. Beautiful to watch the sun rise.
Damn my legs and upper back hurt just watching this 😂 So crazy how many trails I’ve never even heard of are featured here and they all look enjoyable. Great job on enduring such a beast of a journey. Great vid!
Sam, It was a heavy ride, but it’s in your wheelhouse. Yea, so many good trails between the centers. I think I’ll be doing more big rides like this next year…
Thanks man! Yeah it was a BIG day but totally worth it in my book!!
So many great trails, gem of a city…. And when you can’t stop laughing you know it’s a good day. Great job putting together a solid vid of such a massive outing 👍. I need a tow down DM
It really is a gem of a city with much more than just trails! Thanks Rob I appreciate it! When we ride Duluth I tow you into DM!🤘
Nice to meet you guys during the filming and thanks for leading me down DM! Nice tour of the great autumn riding we have here.
Hey Ben, it was great to meet you too! Always happy to help! I hope to meet again on the trails next year. Have you rode Splitrock Wilds?
Likewise it was great meeting you and having a run down DM!
Wow. Just watched this. What a day. Amazing trails. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Yeah! Grabbbing Popcorn and Beers to watch this tonight! Been waiting. Nice to finally meet you in person that day! Hopefully I will catch you on the trail next time!
It was great to meet you in person as well! Let’s definitely get a ride in next year! Evan did a great job with this one, enjoy your beers and snacks on this adventure.
What a super cool trip! The views, The trails. You guys were pushing hard on the way back. That's impressive when you're at 20+ miles in already. Kuddos to you both! Nice edit Evan!
Nice meeting you as well! We sure were pushing hard half way in, the DM run was thanks to some friendly encouragement from Jeremy! I was feeling pretty cooked at that point but that run got my moral back up! I appreciate that I am glad how this one turned out!
Sorry, I don’t watch your videos a ton, but I have to say, that outro was one of the best I’ve ever seen. I loved the black and white and everything in reverse. Awesome way to end the journey I just went on in the video. It’s hard to explain, but it feels kinda like a dream(?)… just the music and the reverse shots in black and white. Sorry for rambling, lol. Very well done.
Awesome, I rode the full DT that day too. I rode from Mission to Lester and saw you guys at the road between Marshall and the new Central section. I was wondering about the daylight when I saw you guys but looks like you had a good adventure anyways.
Haha, that is awesome we passed each other! Our return wasn’t ideal, mainly missing out on the Lester descent. It was still a great day on the bike, I plan on doing more bigger rides like this next year with a goal of getting a full out and back in the books, sometime near the summer solstice to maximize light. Do you ride the DT often?
@@Dialed1 I’ve only ridden the full thing twice, but I ride on the Traverse multiple times a week as I live near Chester Bowl. An out and back is a goal of mine too.
@@reidjenson55 I envy your proximity to the trails here. We could maybe get a group ride going next summer. A Duluth local could have helped us keep on the right track at times, we had some deviations, but made a good ride out of it nonetheless.
The second time around we brought a light! It kept the ride very interesting though😅
Pretty sure my original comment got flagged. It was cool running into your guys. It's cool to see some of those trails between the parks. I'd like to give it a go sometime.
It is pretty neat! I didn’t think I’d find it as interesting as just hitting the standard Piedmont, Brewer, Lester and so on, but there is a load of fun trail between the macro centers. Let’s do a group ride next year.
Dang RUclips! Yeah absolutely, I was blown away with the sheer amount of little trails that I have never ridden before. There are still so many trails up there that I need to check out!
That looks like a really good time! I’m looking forward to checking out Duluth trails next year since it looks like there’s a lot of interesting stuff to ride. I have to ask - did you forget that you got a new bike? I bet it would have worked really well on this ride!
Don't sit on Duluth the city is filled with trails and deserves a ride a ride or two! Haha nope this was filmed on the same day it arrived ! I have a video coming up where I take the Ripmo on some of these trails!
Very cool to see. I’m just starting to explore this area. My girlfriend and I just got a house in Duluth.
Long ride. I’m only good for about 20 miles per ride these days. :(
Ride on 🤘
Many cool areas to explore in that city let alone the history of Duluth! You're lucky to have all of this in your backyard!
Hey. Was wondering if you have done any cyclecross? Looks fun, challenging.
Please yield to hikers and climbers. Maybe trail etiquette is different in Minnesota, but I doubt it.
That poor old lady! That was kind of rude, not to mention those people on the gang plank/bridge thing. A little kindness while riding goes a long way when trying to advocate for future trails.
@@skhateanddestroy1252 Lol I don't know how they would have handled it differently. He came out of that corner blind and slowed after landing realizing the lady + dog was there.
We barely have multi-use trails here so when they are, people don't always react immediately on both ends.
On the bridge they did ring a bell. I would say saying "Thanks" would have been expected though, so with you there.

Knew this would be a fun video after Jeremy showed me the strava log! Burning through those calories and GoPro batteries🪫 I’ve ridden the entire DT before broken up into several shorter rides, it would certainly be a challenge to grind all that out in a day! Jeremy, was that a sanctioned line from the Enger Tower overlook bench down to the skyline drive road?! 😂 ⛔️
Yeah man the best part all of this was carry a nice and light backpack with all my gear...Bad idea😂 None the less it was an awesome day with Jeremy! HAHA That line was "New" Come with us next year and do the full pull summer solstice ride!
@@MinnesotaMTB_ I’m down for an all day epic™️ on the longest day of the year with a crew! Need all the sunlight hours we can get
Andrew, Yea, those were some pretty delirious lines down Enger, 😂. A friend once led me down something on this side but I couldn’t piece it together here, shoulda just rocked the upper Craft on this one.
