Hello Ralph! Great video. I am planning to buy this kit with you guys but I really do not like that much the KD. It seems too small. Would you recommend to change it for a bigger one? or doesn't make any difference? I saw the next one in line from Roland but it is expensive (KD-120). What about the ATV KD from the EXS-3/EXS-5? Will it make a difference? Those are bigger and cheaper but do not want to compromise the overall quality of this great drum set. Or should I just stay with the KD-10? I will greatly appreciate your suggestions! Thanks in advance :)
Hey Camilo, the most authentic & realistic bass drum option would be a 18" diabolo series Real Feel bass drum, that really lets you play the beater inside the head, without any unrealistic rebound/feel. It actually feels like an acoustic bass drum. Next in line would be the KD-120, which is ok & a lot better than the KD-10 or the ATV xD K-13 pad, but still nowhere close to the diabolo bd. The ATVs are a lot bouncier than KD-120 unfortunately, so they´re not the best option. You can also check out our bd pad noise level comparison if you like over here: ruclips.net/video/rQcpY2VAuro/видео.html If you can afford it, to go for a diabolo 18" & never look back :) it is by far the most realistic electronic drum bass drum I have played. So basically this has one more trigger input than the td17? Even if you use the digital connections it shuts off the analog connections for the snare and ride like on the td50?
Hey Stephen, the TD-27 actually has two more trigger inputs, two more audio outputs, and 28ch audio interface functionality through usb: www.drum-tec.com/roland-td-27-sound-module-incl.-live-sound-edition You are right, that you cannot use the analogue snare/ride connectors if there´s digital pads connected. i guess it costs ya to be quiet in the comfort of your headphones instead of rattling ones home with an acoustic set. Should be cheaper but damn they really charge ya for the quiet conveyance
Short answer: yes! The TD-27 is compatible with Roland's digital pads & VH-13, has positional sensing on snare/ride, more in/outputs, more functions & features all around and multichannel audio/midi interface capabilities through usb. You can find more info here: www.drum-tec.com/roland-td-27-sound-module-incl.-live-sound-edition Kind regards!
Absolutely! You can get a custom kit configuration from drum-tec with an ATV EXS-5 13" pad as a floor tom (100% Roland compatible & looks almost like a 13" PDX-100). Kind regards!
Lord Ralf, amazing playing as always, love your chops. Just bought a TD27KV and I have one question; are the sounds in this video unprocessed, do they come from the module out of the box?
:-D wow I feel so aristocratic now ;) yes all kits are stock sounds from the TD-27 recorded directly from the stereo output of the module. There has been a firmware update by Roland since then though, and I think about 10-15 kits have been re-edited. Kind regards!
@@RADERFPV The Roland PD-140DS snare is 14", it has the same size of an acoustic snare. The space between foot pedal & hihat is the same for every kit I demo, otherwise I couldn't play properly :) kind regards!
For those pads and that snare and ride (which is USB I think, meaning it has much more layering and triggers for sensitivity), it could be if the extra 1000 isn't too far out of reach. The 17 is still good though (I've played the 17kv a couple of times for a good duration each time).
Thank you very much! :) oh hm, there´s quite a lot... probably different paradiddle variations, six strokes & various bd substitute figures, too many to name them all here ;-D kind regards!
I absolutely love all of these Drum-Tec videos SO much. Does anyone know exactly what Ralf is doing (rudiment-wise) as a fill at the following time stamps? 3:12 3:21 4:23 4:31 5:04 5:09 5:24 5:59 6:10 and basically infinity:infinity/infinity of all other Drum-Tech videos? haha. For the record, performances like this are why I always stick to a single kick pedal (usually, though double pedals are fun). This shows so much, the importance of stick control and rudiments. Single pedal, and all that awesomeness. Thanks!! :)
It's Funny, everyone, included me, say you are a beast drumming, no one care the drums, the reason is Roland continue making really bad sound modules, I love Roland about the triggering but the sounds are not different with TD9 or another older module, that is sad, I can't imagine if roland release a module powered by toontrack, probably I can see true competition with mimic, nice drumming Ralph
Hi Reuben, the Roland TD-27KV kit offers much better triggering/playability (especially because of the digital snare & ride), and you might get a custom kit configuration with a 100% Roland compatible 18" drum-tec diabolo series bass drum for example, to improve feel/rebound and reduce noise level of the bd: ruclips.net/video/J9Ig12wXESQ/видео.html There are also some nice drum-tec Sound Editions available for the TD-27 module: ruclips.net/video/yO0-3XzK-Wg/видео.html ruclips.net/video/7q8EytnUGwk/видео.html The Live Sound Edition comes free of charge with the purchase of a TD-27 kit/module from drum-tec: ruclips.net/video/WSpzDNEZihQ/видео.html Feel free to get in touch through service@drum-tec.de for any further questions, and/or an individual quote incl. international shipping if you like. Shelling out $3000 for the kit isn't a problem first Roland has to figure out how to get better stick definition from the ride as good as the bell area. Every video I've seen shows how weak the ride is.
After having played every single e-cymbal that´s available on the market, I can tell you the CY-18DR is actually the best triggering/playing ride cymbal pad with the most realistic rebound by far. Have you tried one by yourself side by side with ATV artist cymbals, CY-15R, Alesis Strike cymbals etc? Kind regards
Drummer is better than the set. Snare looks nice but those toms, especially that floor, are a joke. For $3K, the sizes are awful. The large snare makes the toms look even smaller than 10".
Thank you Joe! You can get a custom kit configuration from drum-tec with different tom pads, or upgrade to the drum-tec Jam / diabolo series electronic drums and only use Roland module & cymbals: ruclips.net/p/PLfdIgOnHCc5qEcO6Vkc-KGwqQr-toxrNt ruclips.net/p/PLfdIgOnHCc5rJjroNVUDDY4QLzZAJpKQH www.drum-tec.com/pads Kind regards!
drumtecTV Was just thinking bout that.. In this case with the TD-27KV, it’s actually very convenient to go with a diablo set with the same module cymbals for the same price
Hi trond, honestly speaking there is not much to specifically showcase on a bass drum mono trigger pad :-D there is no positon data or multizone alternating articualtions to show, just dynamics (which will work equally well on any Roland module with any bass drum pad, as it's the same 1-127 velocity standard as for all other pads). When it comes to playing feel & noise levels, this is indeed very different with different bass drum pads. We have made this noise level compariosn on this topic: ruclips.net/video/rQcpY2VAuro/видео.html Kind regards!
I am, and it's driving me insane! I played the td 17kvx 2 days ago at guitar center, and was more impressed than I'd thought I'd be with it. I thought the tom pads would be too small, but I didn't mind the size at all. I don't think I hit an accidental rim shot once. But, I was also impressed with the Alesis Strike Pro SE they had has well, and thought it was pretty awesome. It sure looks the part, but it's just too darn big for my office - and isn't known for reliability. Since I wasn't set on either, I headed back home empty handed. Then I came across the TD27kv online, and love that it has the 28 track audio interface built in along with a compressor, which the td 17 kvx lacks. I'm going back to guitar center tomorrow to try out the 27kv, it was sitting right next to the Alesis Strike. But it didn't stand out as something I wanted to try when I was there, at least not for the $3,000 sticker price i was that it had. I just walked right by it. I'm also thinking that getting a double bass pedal to work with the 27kv is going to be a bit tough with the snare stand right there between the hi-hat pedal and right kick drum pedal. Where's the left pedal bar supposed to route - right through the bottom of the snare stand? I'm sure I could I get it to work, maybe it will look more obvious when I check it out tomorrow. I was also thinking you get 4 extra outputs on the 27kv instead of 2 like on the 17kv module, but you actually only get 2 on it as well. 2 get disabled when you have the digital snare and ride plugged in. That's a major bummer, and has me really leaning back to the td17kvx. I'm a novice drummer with only 6 months experience from 5 years ago, but I sure did enjoy it.
@@RADERFPV I feel you bro. For me it’s the upgraded digital ride cymbal that’s making me debate. I’ve heard the ride on the td 17 isn’t the most responsive and the td 27 has the better digital ride. Is it worth $1200 more is the big question. Let me know what you think of the ride when you try it out/ if it’s significantly better than the td 17s if you can. Also I wouldn’t worry about the double bass pedal getting in the way it’ll adjust fine.

@@camiloruiz9928 Hi Camilo, I think that´s completely up to your individual convenience :) using a midi to usb cable would mean using an external midi interface (built into the cable), while you are using the module´s onboard midi interface if you use it´s usb out for midi connection. Both will work withput any problems, kind regards!
Ralph, your drumming sells any kit you play on this channel.
A question though: is that ride USB?
Thank you very much :) Yes the TD-27KV comes with the Roland CY-18DR and PD-140DS digital ride & snare. Kind regards!
What are the main differences between this kit and the VAD506 other than the looks. can this bass drum be used with a double peddle ? I have a DW 5000 double peddle, does the 506 have a different feel when playing it ? and not just because it looks like a real kit. is the smaller floor tom an issue ? some people say the heads are to bouncy, are they the same on both kits ? can they be made less bouncy ? without speakers are they the same volume in the room ? please tell me anything I might want to know as far as how they compare. thanks

Which kit # are you using for your intro/outro jam? Thank you... DD
So basically this has one more trigger input than the td17? Even if you use the digital connections it shuts off the analog connections for the snare and ride like on the td50?
Hey Stephen, the TD-27 actually has two more trigger inputs, two more audio outputs, and 28ch audio interface functionality through usb:

You are right, that you cannot use the analogue snare/ride connectors if there´s digital pads connected. Kind regards!
So, this module has better usb multitrack capabilities than the td50?
Yes, it seems so :-D Kind regards!

I'm in a deep pickle right now. I've been bouncing between which ones to get, even moreso when I finally had the chance to play on my first choice which was a Yamaha DTX 8 mesh. I just can't seem to choose which kit to go for. Is this kit worth the money? Or should I go for an EF Note 5 or 3x instead?
Can somebody explain how he has hidden these cables
Hey Joe, on the thumbnail there are no cables at all 😄 in the video, I have used the regular Roland TD-27 cabling & just cleaned it up a bit by attaching to the rack here & there. Kind regards!
I guess if I got this I could always use the 12" pad from my td17 as a floor tom.
Not recommended if you want to keep the positional sensing

i guess it costs ya to be quiet in the comfort of your headphones instead of rattling ones home with an acoustic set. Should be cheaper but damn they really charge ya for the quiet conveyance
I have a td17 is this module a major upgrade from that or just new sounds.
Short answer: yes! The TD-27 is compatible with Roland's digital pads & VH-13, has positional sensing on snare/ride, more in/outputs, more functions & features all around and multichannel audio/midi interface capabilities through usb. You can find more info here:
www.drum-tec.com/roland-td-27-sound-module-incl.-live-sound-edition

12” floor would have been great
Absolutely! You can get a custom kit configuration from drum-tec with an ATV EXS-5 13" pad as a floor tom (100% Roland compatible & looks almost like a 13" PDX-100). Kind regards!
@Ed Would work, but doesn´t fit the PDX-100 pads nicely in terms of looks :)
@@drumtecTV thank you for your reply! Mine came with the 1.10 firmware already as it seems. All the best and keep bringing us more videos, cheers!

Is that organ groove you are playing along with at the add one of the native tracks in the module?
No, this is one of my "exclusive" playalong tracks, that might be part of a future collection :) Kind regards!
Are these the stock sounds?
Yes :)
How can you use a double bass pedal with that snare stand right in the way? Looks like one won't fit.
Hi, the snare stand is there on every acoustic kit too, so why shouldn't it work? :) kind regards!
@@drumtecTV Very true, just looks like a tight fit in the photos and videos I'm seeing. I'm going to check one out in person today.
@@RADERFPV The Roland PD-140DS snare is 14", it has the same size of an acoustic snare. The space between foot pedal & hihat is the same for every kit I demo, otherwise I couldn't play properly :) kind regards!
@@drumtecTV I got to try it yesterday at guitar center with a double bass, fantastic kit.
Is it worth waiting enough to save another K to buy it, instead of td17kvx??
My heart tells me yes. Any thoughts?
For those pads and that snare and ride (which is USB I think, meaning it has much more layering and triggers for sensitivity), it could be if the extra 1000 isn't too far out of reach. The 17 is still good though (I've played the 17kv a couple of times for a good duration each time).
Roland Td50k or td 27 kv ?
Td50k is have more realistic sound
Sea and Bullet I think roland should add Bluetooth to the new version of td50
Im using td25kv, can I just upgrade my td25 module to td27 module?
Your gonna need the digital snare and ride my dude, if not youre wasting all that hidden potential
Is drum trigger splitting possible on this module? Thanks!
Basically yes, but the TD-27 already has a lot of trigger inputs actually (4 additional aux inputs). Kind regards!
Tasty playing man! What are some of your fav rudiments to apply in fills?
Thank you very much! :) oh hm, there´s quite a lot... probably different paradiddle variations, six strokes & various bd substitute figures, too many to name them all here ;-D kind regards!
Any clue on the starting price of this drum kit?

5:04
5:09

and basically infinity:infinity/infinity of all other Drum-Tech videos? haha. For the record, performances like this are why I always stick to a single kick pedal (usually, though double pedals are fun). This shows so much, the importance of stick control and rudiments. Single pedal, and all that awesomeness.
Thanks!! :)
It's a six stroke roll I believe. To get that kind of speed you would probably need to use moeller or push pull technique
Me has convencido Antonio
This or the alesis strike pro se
Hi Reuben, the Roland TD-27KV kit offers much better triggering/playability (especially because of the digital snare & ride), and you might get a custom kit configuration with a 100% Roland compatible 18" drum-tec diabolo series bass drum for example, to improve feel/rebound and reduce noise level of the bd:

Buying one brand new for $2,500 tomorrow!
Hey Ricky, great to hear!
I see Rosanna can be played 27 different ways
Shelling out $3000 for the kit isn't a problem first Roland has to figure out how to get better stick definition from the ride as good as the bell area. Every video I've seen shows how weak the ride is.
After having played every single e-cymbal that´s available on the market, I can tell you the CY-18DR is actually the best triggering/playing ride cymbal pad with the most realistic rebound by far. Have you tried one by yourself side by side with ATV artist cymbals, CY-15R, Alesis Strike cymbals etc? Kind regards
Watch the strike pro se video and then this. Absolutely NO contest, looks or soundwise. Alesis EVERY time for me and it's loads cheaper!!
Drummer is better than the set. Snare looks nice but those toms, especially that floor, are a joke. For $3K, the sizes are awful. The large snare makes the toms look even smaller than 10".
Thank you Joe! You can get a custom kit configuration from drum-tec with different tom pads, or upgrade to the drum-tec Jam / diabolo series electronic drums and only use Roland module & cymbals:

drumtecTV Was just thinking bout that.. In this case with the TD-27KV, it’s actually very convenient to go with a diablo set with the same module cymbals for the same price
As usual, everything on the kit gets tested separatly before the playing starts. Exept the bass drum. Every time.
We have made this noise level compariosn on this topic:

Who else debating between this and the td 17 kvx lol
@@RADERFPV I’m like you tho , I keep leaning back towards the td 17 kvx so it’ll have to be a hard sell for me to go with the 27.
