genie has immense talent. she has always had the talent. talent has never been the issue.
What? She literally has no weapons and almost no variety.
In today's wta era, you better have at minimum one huge offensive weapon, or have the defensive capabilities of a Halep or Kerber. Genie has one of the worst serves of anyone in top 100, and doesnt have the speed, defense or ground game to keep up with just about anyone in the 20-50 range, let alone the top 10.
This was a nice win, but her game as it is is never gonna translate to consistent success.

I am happy to see Bouchard winning again. Love her tennis, very aggressive she hits the ball earlier than most players.
She hits it early but not hard, she'll get smacked around by a more consistent big hitter.

Genie played a great match; she was more focused on her game, he did not allow distractions, had a decent service game, and show all her strokes. Good luck Ginie in the next round!
Hopefully a return to her best work for Bouchard. Garcia still not 100% from her injury but still pulled in some good deep court winners.
Everybody gives a huge sigh of relief. Muguruza is having a walk in the desert too at the moment. Let's hope they both find their way out.

A nice win for Genie, and a long time coming.
But, I fear this is a "best of the rest" type scenario. Other players are circling with major weapons (Yastremska, Osaka, Keys, Pliskova, Kvitova, Andreescu, Collins, Sabalenka, etc), and these will blow her off the court. In fact, the last week or so has been eye opening, because we've seen some pretty amazing tennis from these other players.

Genie forehand must be the weirdest looking forehand in WTA. Her backhand is not far behind in weirdness either. And she is quite slow. Well at least she won this match. I hope she can win her next match
Garcia hit quite a few winners for someone who lost in straight sets. Neither player could afford to hit a soft, shallow shot or it would get put away.

Was just going to say the same thing. Seemed like 80% of the points were Bouchard running around the baseline playing defense chasing balls, then cut to the next clip and she is suddenly up a break?!? Is it just me or has she seriously bulked up though? Looks much healthier now.
very true...if there is no scorecard n you are said to guess the score from the highlights,i would say 6-0 6-0 or 6-1 6-1 in favour of garcia.

I don't get why she's hitting the ball so early, even when she doesn't need it.. when the ball is short with a good bounce, let it come up..

Oh no - Genie seems to be a bit physically thicker (not as dainty) and what's up with that pepto bismo outfit. Still the best looking chick in WTA. First time seen Caroline with changed serve form but she still has the rockin bod. That's right - some of us watch womens' tennis for their physical beauty (not very many of them though). If you want to see real tennis, watch mens, hahaha.
