JFK to Manhattan March 5th 2024. SIMPLE. After spending best part of 2 hours in customs we were on our way. Having picked up bags we followed signs for Air Train to Jamaica Station. It’s a shuttle train goes every few minutes. You pay as you exit Air Train and into Jamaica Station. Cost $8.50, pay by just touching your credit card on barrier. Staff there to help. 20yds in front of you follow the large sign which says Long Island Rail Road, can’t miss it. Once you enter the LIRR there will be a ticket machine on your left. Again staff in red high viz will help you. Ticket from Jamaica to Penn Station, off peak only $5. Yes that is a total of $13.50 from JFK to Penn Station. You could catch a different train to Grand Central. We did the reverse on the 9th again $13.50. Time from catching Air Train to Penn Station, 30 minutes.
Thank you so much! I have a trip to NYC in the summer and this video is perfect for me because I need to get to Penn Station and I didn't know how. thanks!

@@JaredDillinghamTravel Literally just saw this after I commented! Perfect. And so glad they have touch to pay, it's been a thing here in Australia forever, so should be easy for me :)
Excellent video. I will be travelling next week to NYC. However, do you know the best place for luggage storage at the JFK airport? I will be arriving at Terminal 1. Thanks
Also, when you leave baggage claim you should come across a luggage storage area. There's definitely one in T4 ... and I think in T1 it's in the arrivals area.
When buying Jamaica Station -Penn on ticket machine, i see Peak and off Peak, what time of the day is considered off peak? I will be there likely between 6-7pm.
The LIRR is far superior in going into Manhattan. There is a "city pass" ticket for $5.00. It cannot be used during rush hour but can be used at other times. Also, the is a senior citizen ticket (you just need to meet the age requirement) that will also reduce the cost of an LIRR ticket to Manahattan. I use JFK to Manhattan frequently. I have never paid $10 for a ticket. Unsure of the least expensive option is available, ask the LIRR staff that has always (my experience) been available to assist in buying tickets.
It runs all the time, even at midnight. Once you get to Jamaica to transfer to a train, you'll have fewer options than you'd have during the day. Also, check my new video, because they've made great upgrades: ruclips.net/video/g6JIB4l1ARs/видео.html

Thanks for the info. We are traveling to NYC in oct. We are 2 adults and 1 child. So is taxi a cost effective option to reach Manhattan since we are 3 wouldn't we spending same on train ?
It can fluctuate based on the day of the week and the time of day. Generally, budget an hour for the trip from JFK to Penn Station. It's also impossible to predict how long an Uber or taxi will take since accidents, construction traffic, and rush hour are always factors.
Thank you for your response ☺️. Just an idea is what I was looking for so that helped. We don't want exact times. Thank you for making this video though.
@@JaredDillinghamTravel hello, im going to New York for 1 day arriving early morning leaving late night, can you give me some tips or tell me things I can do in 1 day , thank you 🙏
Hey Jared you mentioned luggage at the end. Do you think it'd be ok with one checked bag (largish) and a carry on bag? Thank you. Great clear and concise video btw!
Hi! You said that the LIRR ticket’s price depends on the time of the day you’re purchasing it, what do you mean? I’ll be in nyc in January and I’m trying to learn the more I can 😂😂
The caption of this video doesn’t make sense. You don’t take the air train to Manhattan. You take the air train to Jamaica station and catch the Long Island Railroad or the E train to Manhattan.
$8.00 for a ONE WAY TICKET?!?!? OUTRAGEOUS!!! I thought they wanted to ENCOURAGE people to use the mass transit system, not DETER them from using it! Whatever happened to the days of just $2.00 to $3.00 tickets???

Can I use the Metrocard to exit the Air Train to buy then 7 days unlimited rides on the subway without paying 1 $ for another metrocard?
Yes, you can load anything you like on hte MetroCard. Look for someone in a red jacket to help you make sure you purchase exactly what you need!
@@JaredDillinghamTravel Thank you!
If im going from Jamaica to Terminal 7, just to drop someone off; do i stay on the same train to get back to MTA or do i have to get off and get on a opposite track(like with the regular MTA)?
After you drop them off, head back to the same AirTrain platform and just make sure you get on the train to Jamaica.
great video! if im not familiar with subways, would it be easier for me to call an uber from the airport?
It might be easier to take an Uber or taxi on your first visit!
@@JaredDillinghamTravel Is it possible to meet someone arriving from JFK at the Jamaica station and give them my metro card to exit the air train?
Thanks for the info. We are traveling to NYC in oct. We are 2 adults and 1 child. So is taxi a cost effective option to reach Manhattan since we are 3 wouldn't we spending same on train ?
I'd probably opt for a taxi for the three of you. Have a good trip!
So jfk to Manhattan is just 8 €?
After Penn station how to I get to Broadway
It depends where you're heading to on Broadway. Generally, walk north on 8th or 7th avenue for 10 blocks from Penn.
@@JaredDillinghamTravel Broadway to see Lion King
What pass is best for a week in NYC on multiple types of transit ( LIRR, Subway, bus)?
I'd just go with a Metro Card which you can use on the Subway. Keep adding to it as you go. You'll need a separate ticket for the LIRR.
Hi I have a question! can you take a LIRR to Grand Central Terminal?
Yes! As of recently, you can now go from Jamaica Station in Queens right to Grand Central! It's about a 20 minute ride.
Would have appreciated if the pathway or how long does it take to cover this whole journey was discussed
It can fluctuate based on the day of the week and the time of day. Generally, budget an hour for the trip from JFK to Penn Station. It's also impossible to predict how long an Uber or taxi will take since accidents, construction traffic, and rush hour are always factors.

Yeah, I think you'll be fine. People always carry luggage on the trains.

That's a lot to lug around... I'd probably take a taxi, unless you have someone else helping you carry it all!
If you want to take the air train from Jamaica to JFK, would you need to pay?
Yes, you'll have to buy a ticket
Where do you catch an Uber from ? I'm coming solo and want convenience. Do I still need to get the air train?
You don't have to take the AirTrain. Follow the signs for ride shares and taxis.
How long are you staying for ? I’m going solo too
Hi! You said that the LIRR ticket’s price depends on the time of the day you’re purchasing it, what do you mean? I’ll be in nyc in January and I’m trying to learn the more I can 😂😂
You'll have to choose between "peak" and "off peak" tickets. Peak is weekdays: 6-10am and 6-8pm.. and prices will be a few dollars more.
You do not have to take Airtrain. You can take q10 bus to lefferts Blvd and then transfer to Manhattan bound train for free. It will cost you 2.90 .
The caption of this video doesn’t make sense. You don’t take the air train to Manhattan. You take the air train to Jamaica station and catch the Long Island Railroad or the E train to Manhattan.
Right, which is what the video explains. The caption is written that way because that's what people search for.
Jfk to Manhattan sounds more better doesn't it.
Since many people search for "JFK to NYC," that's what I titled the video. It's meant to be helpful for people searching the specific topic.
You cannot take the Airtrain into Manhattan as it doesn’t go into Manhattan.
Correct. You didn't watch the video.
I did. I take issue with the misleading title good sir.
