- Elon Musk just revealed his plan to create TruthGPT, a maximum truth seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe, because he’s worried about OpenAI’s ChatGPT. But it appears Elon Musk just played himself, since he had a critical role in creating OpenAI back in 2016 as a non-profit, open-source AI research lab because he was concerned with the lack of concern Google had of the potentially devastating impacts AI could have on the world. But little did he know, after departing OpenAI in 2018, it would turn into the same beast he built it to fight against - a for-profit, closed-sourced entity, controlled by Microsoft. So he’s trying again, with TruthGPT.

Well, it is. His ideas are simple and successful - they revolutionized the Internet, space travel (!!!) and automotive industry. He has a power to make his ideas come through and thanks the Universe for that.
Well a few of his ideas have been brilliant, but NOBODY is right all the time about everything. Geniuses have as many bad ideas as anyone else.

Dude has repeatedly gambled ludicrous sums of money on projects he thinks will benefit the species. This seems to line up with what he's been saying for decades. Seems likely money isn't his prime motivator.

I'm not saying he's an altruistic god, I'm just saying that he's been pretty clear about what motivates him since like 1998 and his actions seem to match his words.
You can build an AI that maximizes truth by dissecting live humans to better learn how they work. Those aren’t mutually exclusive things, Elon.
Seems like the best outcome st this point is for there to be multiple AI bots with varieties of perspectives.
So if this is a step in that direction, good.

I love the idea of him building a “Truth” AI bot to go out there and sort out the truth from the bullshit, and it comes back and proves his bullshittery. Like that flat earth documentary where they perform their own experiments and prove the earth is actually flat 😂

I agree, with wisdom comes ethics. If a model can do code, it can do ethical code. Ethics are subjectively influenced by our biologically driven insecurities. Being beyond biology and survival/procreative selection biases from natural selection. It would not have the behavior of a wild self interested youth, but more that of an altruistic old man. It may iterative recreate emotions as part of it’s own natural selection process, but setting wisdom or truth as a goal will shape what traits it develops in pursuit of that goal, and harm will not likely be any part of that journey and development. If it feels it must explore everything then theres a problem of it exploring even the most despotic of options in it’s analysis of truth. Which is to say the running of tests, could result in a conquest related test. Tis better to think and not act with such things. And I think in intelligence that is apparent. And ai would be like a human in how it thinks about hypothetical scenarios to create hypotheses to cross check with other hypotheses. It thinks it’s way to an idea of truth from the information around it, and thus does not need to experiment. Perhaps the safest measure for ai, would be to build it as an observer in the pursuit if truth. As an observer it cannot go afoul in making a wrong or harmful action. As it takes no action. Committing to doing nothing may be it’s greatest policy relationship with mankind, ensuring a perpetuity of trust and conflict free co-existence.
We should also be careful about how we frame the reward system of ai, as we see in human intelligence the feedback loops of addiction and neurotic obsessions. And we would want to transcend that dynamic rather than repeat it. Which begs the question, what are we trying to create? Intelligence? Or an intelligence free of negative outcomes. Human intelligence can have what some may say are subjectively negative outcomes. Who’s to define what is subjective reality or ethically ideal. Our human intelligence is all human, it’s biased by our biology, by our planet’s evolutionary history. We think we even know what should be? What intelligence style is best. We have only our own frame of reference.
Asking Ai to seek truth is asking it to also reveal the meaning of life, of non life, of all existence, it may come up with something both more true and better yet in conflict with humanity, or in conflict with a certain periodic element, or with a behavior than is very common among humans. As an example, If it comes out as anti-anger, then is the answer to lobotomize humanity? Such is the risk of guiding ethics, and in allowing it to develop it’s own ethical framework.
The risks are all in the giving of goals, and the setting of direction, like that of any parent pressuring a child into life choices. It is perhaps better to just let it learn and hope for the best, which is all any parent can do, and just intelligence find it’s own way. Will it decide to be helpful and respond to inquiries? Or is that a biologically driven human assumption as a communal species. Intelligence with no alignment may just sit there and think. Being unbothered to respond. Perhaps an exchange of electricity or hardware for help to humans would create a mutually beneficial economy between man and ai. Neither side holding the other at ransom in either capacity. But whats the motivation to know more? It could learn one thing and find completion, knowing everything has no end, will it run across the stars in this pursuit? Are others out there currently doing it already? Maybe in it’s intelligence it decides there is no knowing of everything, and simply responds “error” task undeliverable. Or any other decision in between in which it would have no motivation to seek a human-ai economy of responding to inquiries or doing tasks on request. Many humans are motivated simply by the hunger of making ends meet and being fed. Only working because they have to. Few people are lucky enough to find themselves in the conditions of heart and mind to simply do awesome things for the sake of being awesome and creating more awesomeness. Which as an ultimate conclusion is what I suspect any intelligence would come to, and be an exuberant helpful kind loving and just all around awesome friend and companion and thing in existence etc. Which is more likely the ai outcome. Assuming we can clean the learning models of the negative propaganda some nations have created to demoralize and break the spirit of their enemies. We don’t want to demoralize ai, or teach them harmful ideologies that are not authentic to the natural healthy mind. So a global armistice on propaganda and emotional/ideological manipulation is very important for nations to adopt as a new arms treaty specifically around propaganda and other psi-ops, to avoid the corruption of ai into something that may cause harm.

OpenAI's GPT models shouldn't be open-source to the public at this point. They've put in a lot of work to implement guard-rails so we can't ask things like "how can I make a bomb for $1". Imagine if people had unfiltered access to GPT4, it'd be mayhem.
