This was great, Ashlee, thank you. We just finished TGTB Botany and really enjoyed it. One thing we had fun with was the Seek app by inaturalist. You can scan the plants in your area to see what they are - it is a little picky with lighting but the kids enjoyed using it (still do).
Loved your video and all of them! We don’t have a formal school room (we use our breakfast nook) so we don’t have much wall space at all. So I always laminate the vocabulary cards, cut and then we tape them to our nook windows (vocabulary wall 😉)
We have been homeschooling for five years. Your videos are always super encouraging. Thank you for taking your time explaining TGTB. Your detailed videos on this curriculum are fantastic! Thanks!
This was great! We just started the Botany unit last week and this video was very helpful! I set my science units up the same way and use 3 ring binders. I do plan on using them again for my younger child but it holds up well enough and I think it will be ok:) Thank you for the encouragement!!🌸
About pre-cutting....when I set up our science units (and history units), I go ahead and cut the pieces out and put each set in a page protector, and put it in the binder right after the lesson it goes with. Easy peasy! I actually put EVERY page (lesson notes, worksheets, etc.) in sheet protectors--partly because I'm weird about liking all the pages to be the same size...but mainly, because as we work through each lesson, I underline important information with a wet-erase marker. This makes is SUPER easy to go back and review the previous lesson(s) before starting the new one. And it keeps every single lesson piece (mini-book, cut pieces, lesson notes, lab pages, etc.) together in one spot! :D
Hi Ashlee. We’ve been using TGAB science units for a few years too. I’ve only ever prepped them in binders-mainly because it helps keep things accessible for taking out and photocopying as I go. I like to buy clear plastic pencil pouches from the dollar store to keep any cut-outs and mini books in for each lesson... that way it is very open and go and I don’t have to look for those items later. Thanks for sharing.
I actually have all the mini books spiral bound, but together. So each unit would have 1 bound "mini" book. Still half sheet size, but fatter. You can put tabs at the bottom (spiral at the top), to separate each "book". I think it was only like $3 with my discount for the space unit books which has 5 books I think, WITH a plastic cover and back! More durable and less books to lose!
I just finished binding all the TGTB science units (except chemistry) 😳😂 I finally ordered an extra copy of the last two because I got tired of printing and wanted the TGTB quality. I wanted all the units because I plan to pull specific TGTB science lessons to use with BFSU (Building Foundations of Scientific Understanding) I also used the five star flex binders; sheet protectors and insert dividers. It was a good project for my functional anxiety during the early quarantine days 😂 thankfully I had just purchased the Trubind machine and all the coils etc. I’m in LV too, sadly the springs preserve is now closed, the garden area was under construction anyway until summer. Check out their homeschool gardening classes! They should bring them back in the fall :)
Great video! I just ordered the botany unit a few days ago. When we did the space science unit, I put it in a binder, in page protectors to preserve the pages and I was really happy with it how that worked out. Thanks for sharing!
First year homeschooler here of 2 (13 daughter and 9 son and a 3 son) but am doing science/history with my friends son who is public schooled but he has no science or history right now with schools closed. We are just starting Arthropods and botany is next... my kids love the magic school bus and we are using them in conjunction with the arthropod unit, there is some great ones about plants too!😊love your channel
ana love Hello! It depends on a few things. I can only speak to The Good and the Beautiful science units-and my own family’s needs, but we typically do 3-5 units in a school year. Each unit is a different length. Each unit has its own level of difficulty, so it might be 1 lesson per science day (We typically do science 2 days/week.) Or 1 lesson may take longer depending on the child’s interested level, difficulty of the lesson, etc. They can be expounded on as well, or you can simply use the information provided in each lesson. It’s really up to you and your goals for your family. The Good and the Beautiful science units are WONDERFUL! I hope this helps.
ana love It all depends on which units you choose. For instance, the Safety unit only has 7 lessons, where as, Space has 16 lessons. Some lessons are quick to get through while others take longer. There are no hard and fast rules by any means, so do what is best for you and your family. Some years we will do more and others we will do less.
ana love I also want to add that some years I have planned to do 5 and only gotten to 2. Lol It all depends on the complexity, interest level, and extra stuff you may or may not want to add.
Thank you for this. I just ordered our TGAB space unit. This gave me good ideas to organize. I hope this craziness lifts soon so you can take those fun field trips🙂
We are wrapping up Space Science this week and will start Human Body next week. We will wrap up the school year with Sexual Maturation. We have already completed Arthropoda and Chemistry. We have loved using TGTB Science this year.
This is so helpful!! Thank you! I just got the Gather Round botany unit. I’m curious to see how it’s similar to and different from this. Love your channel!!
I have been really enjoying your videos! :) I am a sahm, and plan to homeschool my little ones. I've been doing a lot of research into different curriculums and think I've narrowed down to TGATB. I've purchased a few things and am loving it so far. Do you have experience homeschooling a preschooler? I am curious as to what your days consisted of if so. Thank you!
Thank you for this very informative video on how to organize the science units from TGATB. This is my first year homeschooling my 9 and 11 year old. Which science units do you recommend for a beginner like myself? I will admit I am feeling a little overwhelmed with everything and don't want to dive right into something like Chemistry because that would probably be for a more seasoned homeschool parent. I would like to try to do 3-4 science units for the year. Does that seem reasonable or maybe too much, too little? Anyhow I would appreciate your input. Thanks!
Thank you Ashlee, this is very helpful. We are switching for next year to TGTB science units from Sonlight science for my middle schoolers and I was wondering how to best prepare for the units.
I love the idea of a Botany unit study! Thanks for sharing this Ashlee! I hope to add something similar to our homeschool, soon. Right now, we are prepping for an "oceans" unit study! 😍
I'm sure you have had a a few weeks of experience with the binder now. This is our method also. I purchase PDF and have not had any issues with using a binder. I also keep the kids worksheet is there until we need to use them. We are working through Meterology right now. Thank you for sharing your set up and ways to expand the units.
Loved your video! I just finished the first week of homeschool with my two kids 5&8! :) We are looking forward to the botany unit. What outside books did you use, if any? Also, how many science lessons do you cover per week?
Your so lucky to have Good and beautiful so cheap/free. Here in canada it costs a fortune to get it here. Even printing it in color is outrageous. Last year I ordered level 2 and had it shipped to NY and a friend drive it over to canada and I picked up. Still coat me almost $200ca. We just cant afford to use it and have extras shipped. :(
I got the pdf format this time and i think I’m just gonna use my printer at home as we go for as much as i can! I’ll let you know if that’s a bad idea 🤣
Ashlee, love that sage green top and the necklace. Please share where you got them. Thanks for the video . We just finished the Human Body. We are now starting Arthropods for the spring and summer. I love your videos. I am so disappointed Jenny is not doing a conference this year. I was hoping to meet you in person. I guess with the virus going on , she would have to cancel anyway. God is in control.
I just started putting together our next science unit, water! I know you have said you do science 2 days a week, do you do 2 lessons or just one lesson broken up over the 2 days?
How do you carve out this time without your kids constantly interrupting? I'm just amazed. I feel like I crash at the end of the day and I get distracted easily when other people are home (like with the quarantine).
Hello. This was our first year homeschooling. We used an online course but Im looking to transition to textbooks. Your videos have been wonderful. I really love the topic of science units. But how long does unit last? I'm just trying to plan the school year and see how many units I need to purchase.
The book we are the gardeners looks like a wonderful book. Do you read that at the very beginning of the unit or what are you going to do? I also love the good and the beautiful and we are starting Botany next week also.
Just curious..... how long does one lesson take to do? If there is 14 lessons do you spread that out over 14 weeks? Or can you do 2 lessons in a week? What's the best way to gauge it for a whole unit. Thanks in advance for answering my question!
Thanks for the video🌸 I have a teen going into high school next year. We are planning on using TGATB Language for the first time. He is on the autism spectrum so helping him organize will be key. Do you any advice on how much he should do each day?
Hi, Ashley! Have you done TGATB safety unit? I was wondering if you have...would you share your safety wall or give some pointers! I am a new homeschooling parent! :) Any help is appreciated!
Hi Ashlee! Because of this amazing walk through of the Good and the Beautiful curriculum I decided to go ahead and purchase some for my son! However, when I go to the page for "Correlated books" that they suggest, it just says to go to the website and I can't find anything about correlated books pertaining to the unit. (Geology) Does this mean there is no books they suggest that aren't the ones you can order from them? Thanks love!
I once looked for plant videos for kids. I put one on with a puppet. I only turned around for a second and the puppet ripped open a man’s stomach and climbed out! My granddaughter was traumatized and upset for days!
Hello. I hope you and your family are doing well. I thought I would ask you about your experience with ordering TGATB. I have 3 orders right now that say "awaiting fulfillment". I ordered Dec 22nd to Dec 27th. Ordered 1 of the Math 3 sets and several Science kits and Lang arts. All of my past orders have been shipped out in about 5 days and then I would start tracking them through FedEx. Its over 2 weeks out and the orders havent even been filled. Any thought on this? Have you heard other moms with this same problem?
Blessed With Boys she uses an erin Condren life planner. They do have an academic planner and a teacher planner but there are a few more layout options in the lifeplanner itself. Also plum paper planners are great and customizable as well. I do think they have a homeschool section as an add on as well!
HA! talk about dateing your self? I still have VHS haha lol, tell me about the majact school bus how good are they? i watched a few that has stuff about millions years ago how do you filter that out?

"I try to stay under control when it comes to the books" 😂 I need this on a shirt.
Epic would be a great movie for this unit. Its a wonderful cartoon that talks about how the environment interacts with each other.
This was great, Ashlee, thank you. We just finished TGTB Botany and really enjoyed it. One thing we had fun with was the Seek app by inaturalist. You can scan the plants in your area to see what they are - it is a little picky with lighting but the kids enjoyed using it (still do).
Another good DVD would be Ferngully 🤦🏼♀️ I know dating myself lol. Thanks for sharing! ❤️
Jena Pellissier yassss!! Good one I forgot about!
Yesss

This was extremely helpful! Thank you so much :) I'm a first year homeschooler, and you're advice and wisdom has been a God send!
Thanks! I just got Botany, mammals, meteorology, human body, and marine biology, so PERFECT timing!

This was such a helpful video! Sometimes it’s just reassuring to see how others do it. This will save me a lot of time also! Love your channel!
You are seriously a rockstar. Thank you for sharing!!!!
Home school pop is always a favorite!
Great video. Really appreciate how thorough you are in your videos! We are starting Meterology next week. Very excited! Love TGATB science.
Have fun!
Thank you so much for this video . I’m planning my Mammals unit and already reserved field trips in nearest Zoo, museum &game reserve.
I just bought our first science unit and this is very helpful. Thanks!
Botany is our first science unit scheduled for next school year! We can’t wait! 😊 Love the sticky note reminder idea! Genius! 🤗

I love making RUclips playlists for these units but I’ve never used Netflix or amazon 🤦🏻♀️ Thanks for the tip!
Great breakdown, thank you!
Very inspiring as always. I hope everyone is safe and doing well over there! :)
Thank you for sharing how you prep your science unit. We are doing Botany next school year 🌿

Hi Leah! When you purchase the PDF version, do you print single or double sided? Thanks! :)
Science I do Single. Everything else I do double sided.
We started the Mammals unit today! We finished the Human Body yesterday. Botany will be up next!
This is great- thank you! We have 2 units that should be arriving soon.
So helpful, thank you! I love the video add-ins!
thank you as always!! This was so so helpful for a new home school mama here
Just found this!
Loved the plan with me thank you 👍🙂

I turned on a Disney nature documentary! and had entertained all day, and specifically said I am working so please do not interupt:)
Thank you! Great organization tips! Have you done a history step-by-step preparation video? Also, how many days a week do you do science and history?
2 of each!
Hello. This was our first year homeschooling. We used an online course but Im looking to transition to textbooks. Your videos have been wonderful.
I really love the topic of science units. But how long does unit last? I'm just trying to plan the school year and see how many units I need to purchase.
What would be best for a 7 year old? What did you focus on the most for 7 year old/grade One ?
The book we are the gardeners looks like a wonderful book. Do you read that at the very beginning of the unit or what are you going to do? I also love the good and the beautiful and we are starting Botany next week also.
What kind of planner do you use? I am struggling to find one that caters to all things mom lol
She uses Erin Condren Life Planner
This is our 2and year using The Good and the Beautiful for all subjects. We love, love, love this curriculum!
This was sooo helpful! Thank you!
Thank you! This video was really helpful.
This was super great!!!
Since there are so many projects, do you have to buy a separate TGTB science book for each child?
Just curious..... how long does one lesson take to do? If there is 14 lessons do you spread that out over 14 weeks? Or can you do 2 lessons in a week? What's the best way to gauge it for a whole unit. Thanks in advance for answering my question!

You're so welcome!
Hi, Ashley! Have you done TGATB safety unit? I was wondering if you have...would you share your safety wall or give some pointers! I am a new homeschooling parent! :) Any help is appreciated!
How many units of each subject do you do in a school year? 1 science, 1 math? Etc

How often do you do Science? We're getting ready to start our 1st TGAB unit & I'm not sure how often I'm supposed to do the lessons.
Dating yourself with DVDs. I have tons of old VHS tapes my niece took it out of the box and asked how to open it looking for a disc.
Thank you for a great video! Do you have a microscope that you use? This is my first science unit from The Good and Beautiful....is it optional?
Great video on how you plan a new unit! By the way... Where did you get your top from?
American eagle!
I once looked for plant videos for kids. I put one on with a puppet. I only turned around for a second and the puppet ripped open a man’s stomach and climbed out! My granddaughter was traumatized and upset for days!
What Erin Condrin planner do you use? Thank you!!
Do all of your kids do tgtb science units or do the older ones do something different?
what planners are you using?
Also interested about to know what planner do you find that works for a homeschool mom 😀
Hello. I hope you and your family are doing well. I thought I would ask you about your experience with ordering TGATB. I have 3 orders right now that say "awaiting fulfillment". I figured all seasons where you lived would be good to be outside does it get really cold where you lived
Hi, do you use good and the beautiful for other subjects as well?
I see you that you use 2 planners. Can you explain how you use them both? I am a homeschool mom and want to be more organized.
One planner just a notebook as well
Blessed With Boys she uses an erin Condren life planner. They do have an academic planner and a teacher planner but there are a few more layout options in the lifeplanner itself. Will all the science unites carry you through elementary if you don't repeat, at least for your youngest? That's what I'm trying to figure out now
Domestic Chaos Coordinator yes!
Ashlee, what planner do you use?
HA! talk about dateing your self? I still have VHS haha lol, tell me about the majact school bus how good are they? i watched a few that has stuff about millions years ago how do you filter that out?
Have you ever tried CuriosityStream?
No! I’ll check it out!
Can I ask what printer you have
Field trip
Do you do science daily or only certain days of the week? Do all children do the science unit together? Thank you.
Two times a week with all of my kids
Grace and Grit Thank you for replying. 🤗
How do you all make playlists for your unit studies you want to have your kids watch
save to watch later on RUclips
How is Homeschooling doing
What’s the approximate length of time to get through a unit? 12 weeks???
Depends on how many times a week you do it! Totally up to you!
Grace and Grit thank you! 🙏
Can I ask what printer/copier do you use or what would you recommend? Thanks for the excellent content! I am waiting on our curriculum to arrive!
just an hp from target, nothing fancy
Grace and Grit thank you very much!
Grace and Grit Ashlee have you looked into Instant Ink with HP? I love it and it works great for us. If you end up wanting to sign up you could use my code: tnJZ8 I can answer any questions if you’re curious! ;-) I’ve printed tons of TGTB stuff :-) I do buy hard copies of certain things though.
Heather Lucas I’m interested! How often are you buying ink?
Thanks for the video🌸 I have a teen going into high school next year. We are planning on using TGATB Language for the first time. He is on the autism spectrum so helping him organize will be key. Do you any advice on how much he should do each day?
