A transmission shaft is supported on two bearings which are 1m apart. Power is supplied to the shaft by means of a flexible coupling, which is located to the left of left hand bearing. Power is transmitted from the shaft by means of a belt pulley, 250 mm diameter, which is located at a distance of 300 mm from the left hand bearing. The mass of the pulley is 20 kg and the ratio of belt tension on tight and slack sides is 2:1. The belt tensions act vertically downward. The shaft is made of steel with yield stress 300N/mm2 and the factor of safety is 3. Determine the shaft diameter, if it transmits 10 kW power at 360 rpm from the coupling to the pulley.

Sir do your dme 1 lectures are based on pune University syllabus ? And Do you make lectures of subjects heat transfer, turbo machines, and tom 2 ? Please reply
In this problem why did the lectirer not consider the effect of tension of the belt drives...if the shaft is rotating ot means it is driven by the belt drives therefore the effect of tension in tightside and slack side must be considered
A V-belt drive is to transmit 10 kW to a compressor. The motor speed is 750 rpm and the compressor pulley runs at 250 rpm. Design the V-belt drive. Clearly state the design decisions taken. Plz solution this question
Sir it,s really helpful but if the load causing failure has uncertainty of plus--minus 15% and the maximum load on the structure is plus--minus 20%uncertainty how help solve for the design factor. Thanks for helping

Super teaching i learned easily and understand the problem to solve tnk sir...
how you take moment at C by neglecting force at D and reaction of B ?????
its wrong plzzzz correct it..
I came here to say same thing better calculate bending moments using equilibrium diagram and making sum of moments=0
When we draw the bending moment and shear force diagram, the maximum value of bending moment can be easily find which is 1500 Nm
