    I just bought a 2019 CLS for my wife today. It is a great looking car, with the AMG lines.

    Great looking car & thrilled to see the I6 making its way back into Benz’s. Can’t wait until this engine package makes it to the wagons.
    Love your review & how you keep the purchase price in mind when making each decision - that’s exactly what buyers do. 👍🏼

    Imo the term "coupe" should be reserved for 2-door sport sedans. Some brands are calling so many cars coupes, even vehicles you would think looked more like SUVs or crossovers. This car for example should be a sedan or sport sedan.

  • @rdefacendis

    Hi Alex - thanks for the review. You are incorrect I believe, about the E450 power plant. The E450 remains a non-electrified biturbo V6. However, power and torque numbers remain the same I believe as the new mild hybrid inline 6. The older technology in the E450 versus this new technology in the CLS explains in large measure, why there is a very big price jump between the two vehicles. So it is a touch more than a styling exercise. Cheers

    Hey Alex somehow I missed this CLS review. You mention many times over about Start/Stop System in autos that Cut the A/C when the STOP is Active. I own the 2017 LT Impala with the 2.5 LITRE and Start/Stop that will keep the A/C running ice cold but not at MAX output. It will lower to just above Low setting on the fan but will continue to blow ice cold for roughly time at the Stop light to turn Green about a minute. Then the engine will fire back up on it’s own if I am not moving yet. The stipulation is that the A/C needs to be on economy and not at MAX setting. And the MPG with the Start Stop in the City has been easily 23/24 MPG and way over 35 PMG HWY. I’ve even gotten 39 MPG on a trip to New Hampshire and back from Mass. up Rt. 31 to Rt 119. Lovely Drive. I love the technolgy here in the CLS but would hate to pay to fix any non warranty repair. You’re the VERY BEST ALEX~! 😉

    • @yoink7806
      @yoink7806 3 года назад

      that's the whole point of the mild hybrid system working with the AC system so it actually can keep the AC on max blast even when the engine is off.

  • @blitzbbffl

    I do like the "Torque-Burst" aspect of MB's implementation of this mild hybrid system.

    The body style of previous CLS looks better with distinct body lines. This is just a longer CLA. Nice though. Interior is clean

  • @Trades46
    @Trades46 6 лет назад +4

    I'm actually not a huge fan of this new CLS looks - the profile is nice but the details are not as well integrated as earlier CLS. The interior is still a hallmark of quality & design - while Audi has more screens & Tesla an even larger one, the design is just so classy that I believe would age a lot better than those touchscreen spam that is so prevalent in luxury cars nowadays.
    The real draw is the new 3.0L Inline 6 turbo hybrid. First the I6 from something other than BMW is a welcome return to Mercedes. The mild hybrid design is intriguing as it reminds me of the old Honda IMA system but with a larger battery + electric motor & everything from AC compressor, alternator & water pumps shifted over to electric operation is a lot better in practice. Considering how smooth Alex makes it out to be, it could signal a trend going forward as electrification advances but not fully replacing ICE cars as a whole with real world MPG benefits.

    I really can’t decide if I like the styling of the new CLS. The first two gens were immediately recognized as beautiful, but this one is taking its time to please my eye. The larger wheels and higher optioned cars do look better though, maybe it’s these ugly wheels that ruin it for me... and the taillights...

    People need to move on, words and meaning change. Coupe originated from to horse-drawn berline coupe carriages. Earliest automobile coupes have their driver exposed to elements instead of being inside the car.
    Heck, one of the first 4 door coupes was introduced in the 60s.

  • @omars.8073

    To my mind, the aesthetics of this model (unlike models in the past) don't really make a case for this car over the E-class. Also I imagine I'm not the only person who thinks those air vents are overwrought. I wouldn't mind a bit of a return to staid German design, at least in the interior.
