  • Today's walk was very remote. The 45 km route from Monesterio to Zafra only goes through one village. At the halfway point in Fuente de Cantos, we had to decide between stopping too early or walking another 25 km to reach Zafra. The scenery was amazing, with an unexpected encounter with highly toxic caterpillars.

I’m so glad I found your videos. I’ve walked the Frances twice and the Via Plata is going to be my next Camino. Looking forward to watching them all

Tammy, I have just done this walk from Seville to Caceres, I am a fit 77 year old, but there is no way whatsoever I would attempt to walk 30-45 kilometres in a day. Maybe you were time-constrained but I just don't see the rush or the pleasure in pushing your older bodies so hard. What's wrong with finishing at lunch time and enjoying and taking more time to visit those lovely small towns you were staying in? Also, you probably found out the hard way that Spain is not a country for vegetarians! Great respect for what you did though.

Michael. Thanks for the comment. So true about not rushing. Spain is such a lovely country. Because we've done quite a few of these walks, this time my hiking buddy and I (who are sometimes adrenalin junkies who love endurance sports) decided we'd attempt to challenge ourselves with greater daily distance. However, we'd just run out of daylight. Our pace wasn't fast enough. We did have a great time. And Kudos to you for being so fit and walking. You are an inspiration!

Yep! If those caterpillars 🐛 get on your skin it causes serious itchiness, fever and swelling of the skin.
