    The NHS is truly amazing when you think about it...Every second of every hour of every day there are thousands of members staff working tirelessly to treat patients...it literally never stops. It could be 4 o clock in the morning on Christmas day and guaranteed there will be people there to look after you if you need it.

    My elderly mother ended up in A&E after a fall the doctors , nurses and staff were amazing caring people but I witnessed the way they were spoken to by intoxicated people whom believe it or not were mostly female and I just could not believe what I was hearing plus the amount of police present in A&E makes me think this is a regular occurrence

I would do anything else before I ended up at the hospital like the Pharmacist or Out of Hours GP as due to mental Health problems I would find the waiting more stressful than what was wrong with me!!

    • @Jamal-Ahmed786
      @Jamal-Ahmed786 7 лет назад +2

      Omer Khan well in Ireland revenues increased when they cut corporation tax to 12.5. This leqd to more money for services such as nhs in Ireland. Maybe we need to become competitive with our corporation tax rate - maybe reduce it to 10 percent to attract business and compete with Ireland. Also we need to stay in the eu single market to generate funds for the nhs.

    • @lichazeakel1126
      @lichazeakel1126 7 лет назад +3

      1) Trickle down economics is not a real theory 2) The reason it brings in more money is because the rich and corporations don't hide their money in tax shelters when the tax rate is lower, so more of the money actually gets taxed.

  • @ranlarry
    @ranlarry 4 года назад +7

    I worked as a nurse in this department, and nothing as changed in years. Our problems started when they closed the A and E dept, in Burnley. Over the years they used terms like lean working, flow of patients and a multitude of other ideas that just didn't work. They even expanded the dept, that didnt work. To us, the staff, the answer was simple. There needed to be more beds throughout the hospital to move people into, along with more staff. Yes there should be measures in place for time wasters. But regardless more beds in the hospital and more staff in A and E would easy the congestion, a lot of the patients who are on trolleys in the corridors will be waiting for a bed to become free on a ward. When I started in this dept life was so different, we had a good mix of busy and quiet periods, I loved my job. But Burnley A and E closed and times changed. My health started to suffer, and despite asking for help from senior members of staff, occupational health and human resources, none came, my depression became so bad, I felt the only solution was to hand my notice in after 30 years of service, one I now regret. My frame of mind was flawed, but they allowed me to do this. This is how this hospital and this dept treat their staff - bullies. The chief executive allowing the BBC in, showed at least be was trying to highlight the issue. PS the matron and the majority of staff from my time or no longer there. The consultants show in this documentary where there and they were the good guys and gals

    *I sat in one A&E and waited for seven hours, having a hard time breathing and severe pain in my back when I FINALLY was allowed to see a doctor he pushed a red button and they ran and put me on a bed for emergency treatment, I had hundreds of tiny blood cloths in both of my lungs. It is pure luck that I'm alive, NOT the hospitals. If I had waited more, like 30 minutes, I would be very dead at age 35. The triage said that I "over exaggerated" my pain....*

      My brother is in his final year as well. Over$300'000 CAD, not sure the Euro conversion. His biggest fear is the prospect of not finding a residency spot available. Doctor"shortages" in Canada, yet thousands of medical graduates begging for residency spots. This is a problem caused by government, and appears to be a common problem amongst the nations.
      Throwing more tax dollars at it is foolish because, at least in Canada, maybe a fifth of it tax dollars are used wisely for the people, the rest squandered or given to the banks. Or taxes are raised almost every year, now.
      No, the answer is less government, more accountability to the people. Recover the spirit of Magne Carte. Change the system so education and service are both received primarily as a result of being there voluntarily as it was deep in the past. Apprenticeship, room and board for dedicated staff, goods and services centered currency rather than Fiat debt based currency.
      Free tuition only works if currency is swapped out for systems of real value, otherwise it's just more freedom inhibiting taxes.

    I found it to be awful, I was working some shifts and wasn't getting breaks, night staff was sleeping the night shifts. Some nights staff would have breaks eating Chinese, laughing, joking, all through the night never giving me a break.. I caught covid, to have a staff member on the ward say "covid my arse" despite being ill and positive. Dreadful!

Only the people who live with the problem daily (the healthcare. professionals) can fix this and the nett result will be that it will cost more; and I don't think any of us would object to that. The NHS is a brilliant concept that has got out of control. Expanding into mega hospital resorts is bring the NHS spending into overdrive. As an example I remember local Hospitals that were loccal and a lot smaller, run by the lead Consultant and Administrator. They hired, fired and purchased evrything becuaese they were hands on and at ground level. Thats what the NHS needs to be.

    I was born in this hospital and look at that state it has been in for the last nine years under this bloody Tory government. What they’ve done to it is a disgrace and it breaks my heart watching this and the mess it’s in. The Tories ought to be ashamed of what they’ve done to this hospital, the buck stops with them. But they won’t take the blame for what’s happened to our NHS, they’ve just blamed it on the staff who do such a fantastic job in extremely difficult circumstances. We’ve got a chance to end this though next week and that is to vote for labour and that’s what I’ll be doing next week.

    I don't need to see the rest of this, but will watch it. Not enough staff, to many sick. The US is really bad with simular problem. But we have the added trouble of being semi private/public health care. But the staffing issues go beyond this area. Businesses are cutting back & the stress is high in many other jobs. A lot of people are seeking better work.

    I do want to add the one thing I saw used in the UK ER with nitrous oxide I do not understand why the US does not allow its use in the ERs especially when it comes to pain patients I can’t tell you the agony of sitting in the ER for hours with no pain relief when you are there for pain or you’re waiting to be diagnosed. I don’t understand why do US has not adopted this as apparently it’s been used in the UK going back to the 40s and 50s. This is where the UK tops the US

    Considering the amount of people, I'm really surprised the staff and film crew are not wearing masks, also anyone bringing in patients. This should be mandatory. I know people are complaining, but no one was prepared for all this and everyone is affected. It's not the staffs fault, they are obviously doing all they can these circumstances are not normal. But this is why everyone should stay indoors, self isolate and some people still don't get this.

    It’s just this bad in the US but now at least in my town though they’ve opened the satellite ERs for the most part these ERs are no weight compared to the hospitals but I would have to go to the main hospital it would be hours upon hours there’s a walk and you are two minutes from my house I’ve never once had to wait over three minutes to get in the back not even once. At first I had my concern about them but for medium things or even where you get put in the hospital the one time I did need to go to the hospital they sent me there an ambulance and I was taken directly to my room. So I love the walk-in ERs. I don’t understand how people would want UK medical care though it’s free you pay the price for it in the end. Case in point that I will never forget a little girl that I know of in the UK went completely deaf and failed a class over fluid in the ear it took her six months to get into a specialist in another six months for surgery. I had exact same problem I saw the doctor the same day and this was the specialist and I had surgery two days later very sad. Although I definitely complaining over my $300 bill I got for a blood test I guess you choose your battles

Unless your feeling like your dieing then go to A&E. Mental health should be addressed a lot more seriously then physical pain. If your mildly ill, alcohol or drug intoxicated stay at home and ring your gp, pharmacy dont waste A&E resources they are there to save the diere need not a free place to sit and hold up life and death situations

      There is no competition in a single pay system. If medical care was privatized with few regulations you'd see new hospitals popping up with more quality care. When patients start choosing the new hospitals over the current ones, the current ones are forced to up their game and lower their prices to compete. That doesn't happen in single payer system.

    The BBC report the problems but, like most of the mainstream media, fail to look at and analyse the underlying causes (Why?). We are always told that it's because of increasing demand, an ageing population or immigrants, this is just a distraction.
    The NHS is failing because successive administrations have set it up to fail, both Labour and Conservative governments. We could afford a health service in 1948 when the country was broke, we can certainly afford it now as one of the richest countries in the world.
    The NHS is being privatised to extract profit from something we have paid for and own, large chunks of it have already gone. If you don't know about this it's because you aren't supposed to, it's mostly being done un-democratically and in secret.
    Have a look at this brief explanation of how PFI contracts, STP, Accountable Care etc. are all crippling what was a perfectly good system: realmedia.press/everything-need-know-happening-nhs-10-mins-ournhs/
    Lots more information out there from: Dr Bob Gill, Professor Allyson Pollock, Dr Youssef El Gingihy and many others.
    If you want a public health care system for you, your children and grandchildren, get yourself up to speed on this and start making a fuss, time is running out.
