Yep... When I left the area back around 2007-2008 - I forget exactly which - the fuel load up in the hills east of the lake was absolutely INSANE - stands of manzanita and buckbrush the no deer would ever get through, never mind a man, sprinkled with stands of star thistle that'd make you wish you could die rather than try to pass through, downed and partially downed pine and fir everywhere. Rather than managing small burns that clear out the huge fuel load with little or no real impact on anything (other than getting rid of the "trash" underbrush that needs to be cleared anyway) Cal-Fire would rather deal with quasi-randomly appearing monster infernos that they have no hope of doing anything reasonably useful against - unless wasting money, manpower, and massive numbers of structures, along with the occasional life, is the goal. Part of why I left California - the sheer idiocy involved in the wildland management plan (which was no plan at all) was absolutely mind-boggling, and pretty much guaranteed the destruction of where I was living. Turned out I didn't leave too soon - where I used to live, off 162 between the Bidwell Bar and Canyon Creek bridges above the east side of the lake, along with dozens of other properties nearby, went up in smoke with the fire that pretty much erased Berry Creek - I think they called that one the "Bear Complex" fire - what was it? 2, 3 years ago now? I can still zoom in on google maps and look into the only visible remnants of where I used to live - the hole that used to be the basement of the house. Likewise for at least a dozen former neighbors - all of them burned flat. The "Camp" fire was another "no surprise" burn - I used to deliver the Mercury-Register up into Concow, then swing back towards Paradise, and the terrain was the same as on "my" side of the lake - buried in 10-20-30 foot high stands of interwoven buckbrush and manzanita so thick a rabbit or squirrel was about the only thing that had any chance of getting through. No surprise that it burned like a torch and wiped out the town. Now this "Park" fire going "supernova" - Again, not much of a surprise. Same for the fires that ran through the Kelly Ridge area of Oroville a few months back - Again, the same conditions - insane amounts of underbrush, just wating for a spark. On the up side, if there can be said to be one, at least for the next few years, nobody in the recently burned areas needs to worry about another major fire. Of course, anybody trying to rebuild is going to be having a ball trying to get insurance - Those outfits are too dumb to figure out "Hey, the place just got burnd to the ground - which means that there's not going to be much, if any, fire activity until the slash grows back over the course of several years.

Build it 3-6 feet deep (slightly underground)

Crazy. California has had two consecutive years of record rainfalls and snowfalls, yet once the weather dries everything out, it's immediately back to fire season. Only with the growth generated from the orevious two years, it's now worse, as there's more fuel to burn.

In Portugal,a much smaller country we organised such fb groups..every fire season the info gets updated, offers of safe transportation and boarding/fascilities are mapped with contacts , then people who may one day need,ie they don't have family/opportunities out of the district can connect with the offerer. BEFORE theres a fire nearby these plans are made..It's really not rocket science.

    Anti-discrimination student movement
    Press release
    Date: 28 July 2024
I strongly condemn and protest the forced scripted statements of the coordinators at the DB office at gunpoint, condemning the sacrifice of hundreds of martyrs who were killed in the firing by the security forces of the government and the attack of the Chhatra League. We have been, are and will remain steadfast in our demands.
    Dear countrymen and students,
After mass killings and mass arrests for the past few days, the government has created a new drama. By picking up the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement and holding the DB office hostage at gunpoint with scripted statements, the government has shown extreme indifference to the demands of the student community. Not only that, the government made a joke with the blood of the martyrs by threatening and intimidating the families of the martyrs killed by the state forces and Chhatra League terrorists, bringing them to Dhaka using the armed forces, taking false statements from them and putting all the blame on the agitators. We want to say in unequivocal terms that till the last breath of life the students cannot be unfaithful to the blood of martyrs.
Dear countrymen, you know that the government is continuing the stream roller of torture on ordinary students in the country due to the quota reform movement. After mass killings, the government carried out mass arrests and raids across the country. Thousands of cases and arrests are being made. Samir, a young child, was shot dead from a helicopter while lying by the window. The worst attack in recent memory on private university students. Even the young students of schools and colleges have been brutally attacked and many students have been injured and martyred. In this situation, we want to say in strict terms that the students' movement will continue until our demands are met.
Program: Students protest program and protest rally across the country tomorrow.
Requesting all citizens of Bangladesh to declare solidarity with our demands.

    Coordinator, Anti-Discrimination Student Movement
