  • In this video, I describe the vital role of the FOREARMS and WRISTS in the golf swing. Every great golfer PRONATES and SUPINATES their arms during the golf swing. This dynamic movement is essential for ROTATING and SQUARING the club face.
    I show you a KARATE CHOP Drill that you will downith both arms independently and then together PRIOR to hitting golf balls! These DRILLS are CRITICAL if tou hope to develop the correct FEEL!
    **NOTE: While the LEAD ARM does NOT FLEX in the backswing as much as I illustrate in the video. FLEXING and EXTENDING it in this particular DRILL is helpful from a DYNAMIC standpoint!
    There is no question that the degree of PRONATION and SUPINATION varies from player to player based on GRIPS and RELEASE PATTERNS. However, in my experience, the average golfer does NOT understand or ARTICULATE their FOREARMS throughout the golf swing effectively, leading to INCONSISTENT ball striking.
    SUPINATION - Palms ⬇️
    PRONATION - Palms ⬆️
    This video will be particularly helpful for those of you who SLICE or lack DISTANCE. Remember, 80% (+) of the speed in the swing comes from using the arms and wrists! This explains why many recreational golfers SLICE or struggle with distance.
    Learning to PRONATE and SUPINATE will help you transfer ENERGY to the club head, translating to increased SPEED and more DISTANCE and ACCURACY!
    I discuss specific GOLF DRILLS that you can do to FEEL exactly what you need to successfully PRONATE and SUPINATE your arms during your swing. Simply follow the directions in the video, and I’m confident it will TRANSFORM your golf swing!
    Get after it!
    Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️‍♂️🙏🏻

    Strangely enough I figured this exact movement out a few weeks ago. It is great to have the reinforcement of this video. It does exactly what you say in that it turns your 9 in to an 8 iron and so on. I have been playing for 30 years and I wished there had been instruction like this back then. Awesome content.

    Holy moly - my hands are opposite 😱😱😱. I really am strugling thoug im not spinning any more - keeping my back to the target - small weight transfer - no chicken wing - but im still strugling😢. Been watching all your videos at least twice - some again and again. THIS COULD BE MY MISSING LINK - cannot wait to go and change to left karate hand under. Im very exited about this. Thx so very much Andrew.

      You’re not as far off as you think! Most golfers unfortunately don’t understand how their forearms control the rotation of the club face! Tying your arms to your body and spinning will only leave the club face open! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️‍♂️🙏🏻

    Amazing information, many thank you Andrew.
    Combining these drills with your others for the "no body turn" strike of the ball and using the wrists and arms starts to make far better sense than I've experienced in many, many years!
    I'm 74, nearer 75!, just getting back into the game after 3+ years of illness including quadruple heart bypass and now taking your drills to the range here near Brighton UK (Seaford GC , Blatchington) - and its starting to make real sense as my body dynamics are somewhat limited!
    Your tutoring is by far the best on YT, especially the reasoning that you explain so easily!
    Such a pity you are no longer in the Uk as I would be booking a lesson for sure!!
    Thanks once again, KR John 😊

I also used the arms coming down the elevator method, so much less effort on the body, and the ball goes further and straighter, which i was totally surprised , great content Andrew thanks

    Just came across your channel. I like it because this is how I learnt to play as a junior. However, I’m looking at most of your videos, you don’t appear to cover the backswing which is my problem. I have an overswing especially with the longer clubs. Can you please cover this ? I have tried a shorter backswing but my swing speed lowers and I don’t feel I have enough room to hit the ball. Thanks

      Grip might need a tweak!! Make sure your trail hand is not too far UNDER the handle! It’s super common and causes nightmares. A strong lead hand is fine but it needs to be paired with a well placed trail hand too. Best, Coach A. 🏌️‍♂️⛳️🙏🏻

    You have great videos Andrew and I happened to be working on this yesterday and my contact was really crisp but I noticed when I really turned my left wrist down my start line was more left than I wanted. Do you have any suggestions for this? Thanks.

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  3 месяца назад +1

      Like all things, it can be overdone! Make sure that your trail hand grip isn’t too far underneath (strong). That’s a common problem in particular with the driver! It could also be that you’re not getting your lead arm extended enough through the ball! Very hard without seeing!

    love your teaching .but.... every time you paused at impact your lead hand was not palm up,it was back of hand facing target

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi Matt! A salient point for sure but the supination of the lead arm/wrist is turning down ‘through’ the ball. I believe I mentioned it’s ‘almost’ facing me at impact!
      As you know if the lead palm is facing completely down at the point of collision the club face would be closed causing hooks primarily.
      Bottom line is that most golfers aren’t supinating there lead forearm soon enough as they approach the golf ball! Like all things everything can be overdone! Many golfers may need to FEEL like their lead wrist is pointing down at impact because it’s usually pointing UP!
      Hope that makes sense. You gotta find what works for you based on your grip, preferred shot shape and of course match the release pattern accordingly!

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  3 месяца назад +1

      Bill, the challenge is when the club face is wide open and then slammed closed at the ball. This is NOT an open to close release pattern! Rather a gradual and continual movement from lead wrist pronation to supination through the ball.
      Having said that, golf will ALWAYS require good timing! The idea that it doesn’t is a fallacy in my opinion - Even body driven swings seen by ‘elite athletes’ require timing. To quick with the body, ball misses right and to slow and the ball often misses left. Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️‍♂️🙏🏻
